Reviews for Hotel Excelsior Dubrovnik

The worst >US$1000 a night hotel room I have ever stayed

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

The location was unbeatable and service wasn't bad, I am just complaining about the room I paid and ended up with. First of all, I am 80, the room was small that I tripped several time going to the bathroom at night. (see picture) It was small that when I ordered room service, there was no room to place the plates nor a place to sit and enjoy (as oppose to Aman, table setup with table cloth). The bathroom was cheaply renovated because it was still a bathtub shower and I have to climb over some 2.5" tub with no place to hang on. The tub had no sliding glass but a Motel like setup, a thin piece of glass that swivels and spans half of the tub length, this ended up with me mopping the flooded floor each time I took a shower. The location of the tub faucet was totally absurd, it was located in the middle of the tub and sticking out almost half way across the tub ( see picture). I had to stand behind the faucet to take a shower and ended up flooding the bathroom floor, another cheap renovation. Then of course, one USB, no C, broken hot water pot, one bottle of water a day, other little things. Not what I call a luxury hotel.

Clean, contemporary, and comfortable.

It’s not the Four Seasons in Florence, and the house keeping is a bit lacking, but the rooms are nicely decorated, the location is terrific, and the view was wonderful. Waterfront and hospitality staff are exceptional. Breakfast was good. The hotel is well maintained and clean. Bathrooms are small. Overall very nice but a bit expensive for what they offer.

Unforgettable Stay at Hotel Excelsior Dubrovnik

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

I stayed at Hotel Excelsior in Dubrovnik for my vacation and honestly loved almost every minute of it. The hotel is spotlessly clean and beautifully designed, with a modern yet warm atmosphere. The location is amazing – just a short walk from the Old Town but still quiet and right on the sea. The only thing I would point out is the breakfast service. The food was fine but I felt the staff could be a bit more attentive and professional considering the hotel’s otherwise very high standards. Most of my days were spent on the hotel’s beach area and it was exactly what I needed. The sun beds are comfortable, the view is breathtaking and sipping on delicious cocktails while relaxing there felt like heaven. One evening I had dinner at Prora, the hotel’s beachfront restaurant, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of my trip. I started with fresh oysters and then had a fillet of sea bass recommended by my waiter Ivan. He also suggested a Croatian white wine to go with it, which turned out to be a perfect match. Everything was absolutely delicious and the service was beyond impressive. Ivan, Jeylin and Vedran were so professional, friendly and attentive that they made the whole evening feel truly special. All in all my stay at Hotel Excelsior was wonderful. Between the stunning design, the perfect location, the relaxing time on the sun beds with cocktails and the unforgettable dinner at Prora, I left Dubrovnik already thinking about my next visit. I will definitely be coming back.

So far from a luxury 5 star stay and experience

Very very disappointed with this hotel. We arrived following a 7 day cruise with Seabourn and booked this as the final treat to our holiday for 3 nights. We arrived before check in time and were told we would be telephoned when our room was ready. At 4pm we had heard nothing so we went to reception and enquired and were then told that we would only have been called if it was ready before normal check in time and no apology offered. Fine, we moved on. We were shown to our room and all was good. Later in the evening, I had a shower and our bathroom flooded. I thought maybe my fault because I didn’t close the door properly but the same thing happed to my wife afterwards and she confirmed the door doesn’t close properly. Then during a visit to the bathroom during the night the toilet continued to flush all night. I made reception aware the following morning about both issues and they assured me they would be resolved. We spend the next day exploring Dubrovnik and upon return for evening showers, it seemed a bit better but still was leaking and we thought the toilet was fixed. But again during the night the toilet began continuously flushing and making noise from 2am onwards. We also decided to have a bottle of wine from the mini bar on our return. Having looked around the room for several minutes for a corkscrew which could not be found, I then rang reception and was told that they get stolen from the hotel and they have no more! They told me they could send someone to open a bottle but they couldn’t leave one with me. I explained I don’t want to bring it home but would like one to be able to open bottles of wine or beer when desired but was declined this privilege. My wife again visited the bathroom during last night and again the toilet continued to flush all night causing us not to be able to sleep once again so clearly they did not fix either issue. I again made reception aware this morning and asked for the manager to be informed and upon our return from a day trip to the islands, there was a note in my room to contact reception. I went to reception and was offered a complimentary dinner with soft drinks for this evening. I explained we had a reservation at restaurant 360 this evening so declined the offer. We paid in excess of €1300 per night for our room with a balcony and sea view which I booked directly with the hotel and feel totally ripped off. The breakfast buffet is also not nearly as good as it should be for this standard of hotel. The orange juice is not even fresh and lots of items missing and not replenished even at 9:30. Avoid at all costs unless you a sub standard 5 star rip off.

This was an excellent hotel. We had a view of the sea right outside our window. It was beautiful. It took about 10 minutes to walk to the city walls. But it was a very good location because the cars can pick you up and easy to walk to the walls. We also had a delicious breakfast buffet. The view from the restaurant is amazing.
