Reviews for Hotel Excelsior Dubrovnik

Fantastic Location

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Fantastic location with accommodating service. I’m not sure I’d rate this a 5 star hotel based on our stay, but they work very hard to maintain the grounds and are incredibly welcoming. Our room was 114, fair warning, do NOT book this room. It says garden view, but the window opened up to absolutely nothing (we felt so boxed in with no view of anything). Like the back of the house with a bush and railing.. it was so odd. For that reason it is hard to rate this 5 stars. The room itself is very nice and large esp from EU. The breakfast was OK. The buffet was 80% foods you’d eat for lunch or dinner. The menu to order from was good. The beach area was gorgeous. We did book day trips thru concierge for Bosnia and Montenegro. Our driver was Mario and he was OUTSTANDING. Honestly, he made the trip. Give that man a raise and vacation! We booked a boat trip too and the captain + drives were fantastic. Highly recommend booking any excursion thru the hotel! We were a little bummed the only dinner option was the very pricey fine dining restaurant, but there are many options walking distance. I think this is the best hotel to book in the area so def recommend just be prepared for a few of the above things!

A beautiful hotel with exquisite views

Beautiful, modern hotel with exquisite views and exceptional accommodations. Multiple restaurants offer delicious dining options. The staff is kind and professional. And a swim in the adjacent Adriatic Sea is a must.

Place to Stay in Dubrovnik

If your are visiting the Old City of Dubrovnik, this is the hotel to stay at Period. The hotel is about a 10 minute easy walk to one of the main entrances of the Old City and as you walk in, you are in the heart of it all. Now about the hotel itself. We found the staff friendly, helpful, cordial and very pleasant. Our room was on the old side of the hotel, which meant the rooms are larger, but perhaps the bathroom facilities are a bit more dated. But we found it all very acceptable. Our room had a small balcony which we used often to sit and capture the beautiful views of the Adriatic Sea and the various small islands. So a suggestion, if you can get a room with a balcony. It adds to your trip 100%. We also toured the newer side of the hotel. Rooms are well appointed and nice, but without the charm of the old side. Breakfast that is usually comes with a room in Europe was well stocked with everything that you could ever want, or you had a choice to order from the menu and not even look at the buffet. I recommend this hotel fully and know you will be happy.

Incredibly kind staff

Stayed here due to a cancelled flight. Everyone was so incredibly kind and understanding and let us hangout in the hotel the next day for almost 8 hours in the lobby. They made an otherwise awful travel experience into a safe haven for the day. Thank you.

The worst >US$1000 a night hotel room I have ever stayed

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

The location was unbeatable and service wasn't bad, I am just complaining about the room I paid and ended up with. First of all, I am 80, the room was small that I tripped several time going to the bathroom at night. (see picture) It was small that when I ordered room service, there was no room to place the plates nor a place to sit and enjoy (as oppose to Aman, table setup with table cloth). The bathroom was cheaply renovated because it was still a bathtub shower and I have to climb over some 2.5" tub with no place to hang on. The tub had no sliding glass but a Motel like setup, a thin piece of glass that swivels and spans half of the tub length, this ended up with me mopping the flooded floor each time I took a shower. The location of the tub faucet was totally absurd, it was located in the middle of the tub and sticking out almost half way across the tub ( see picture). I had to stand behind the faucet to take a shower and ended up flooding the bathroom floor, another cheap renovation. Then of course, one USB, no C, broken hot water pot, one bottle of water a day, other little things. Not what I call a luxury hotel.
