Gravetye Manor is a truly enchanting place; both close to the pleasures of London, yet far from its hustle and bustle. This beautiful Elizabethan manor sits proudly amongst the winding pathways and abundant flower beds in the English natural and wild gardens created by William Robinson, the father of the English natural garden and a former owner of the estate. This quintessential English country house’s charm is evident in the wood paneled restaurant with crackling log fires. All year round, the sweeping countryside views, first-class cuisine and attentive yet unobtrusive service ensure an unforgettable experience.

Fabulous food and staff. I enjoyed the food. 2nd March. Unfortunately menu not easily available prior to visit. Guests - A really important financier from Middle East with wife, Wife did not enjoy fish and two courses involved this. My mistake in going here, but previous visits great, failed to check menu. No variety for fish haters. Chris Newman LL.D

Our first time welcome at the manor was lovely and helpful with a friendly greeting and helping hand that confirms you are in the right place today! We came for the gardens and the food and despite the weather and time of year the garden did not disappoint with many winter flowing plants on show. And the best was yet to come. This has only got 1 star but the evening food and service was minimum 2 star faultless cuisine showcasing the garden produce with perfect cooking and exceptional ingredients. Perfectly matched wines at really good value for money made the day. And the real test of a restaurant is how they care about breakfast but this also was faultless. We will definitely be back.

The manor and gardens are beautiful and the modern extension for the dining room is one of the best I’ve seen. It perfectly compliments the garden and old building. We went for lunch. The appetisers of trout and cheese and truffle were a great start. Next came a lovely selection of bread with a slightly over complicated hay smoked butter. The tomato tea was excellent, The tuna starter was delicious perfectly flavoured. There was a ‘garden salad’ which was average and probably needs to be replaced with something else. All of the mains are presented on the plate in a similar way. Mine was Fallow Deer which was good although with too much Quince and the celeriac flavour was lost. Pre dessert was a very good plum sorbet. Dessert was a version of tropical Rum Baba which lacked an alcoholic kick and had far too little coconut cremeux added by the waiter. The chocolate cherry dessert was exceptional. Overall the lunch was very good but not quite as good as we expected. Was it worth just under £300 for 2 including 2 glasses of wine and service -probably not.

We enjoyed a relaxing and peaceful night away at this beautiful hotel. The gardens, which are worth a trip, still have masses of autumn colour and interest. Plenty of sofas on which to sit and read next to an open fire with a glass of sherry. Lots of pretty flowers, presumably from the garden, are placed everywhere and give a charming vibe. Restaurant, which is sort of magically embedded in the garden, is first class - the three course meal also includes a number of additional smaller courses or palette cleansers. The staff were uniformly friendly and professional. Couldn't fault the hotel. (The package which includes dinner and B and B is good value - breakfast was excellent.)
