About the Hotel

For over a century, The Balmoral has found a home at Edinburgh’s most prestigious address, No. 1 Princes Street. A landmark Rocco Forte hotel set in the heart of Scotland’s capital city, The Balmoral combines stunning views and warm hospitality with world-class facilities to create the perfect urban retreat. The perfect marriage of tradition and modernity, each of the 167 rooms has been individually designed by Rocco Forte Hotels’ Director of Design Olga Polizzi. Elegant and stylish with unmistakably Scottish accents, each of our 20 Edinburgh suites are generous with magnificent views. Enjoy Michelin-starred dining at the famous Number One restaurant, sample modern Scottish Afternoon Tea under the glass dome of Palm Court or relax in the serene sanctuary of The Balmoral Spa. Brasserie Prince, launched in 2018, celebrates a 'new alliance': matching the very best of Scottish produce with classic French cooking, while The Balmoral’s signature whisky bar, SCOTCH, pays homage to Scotland’s national drink and is home to one of Edinburgh’s largest collections. Take a seat on one of the tweed sofas and let a kilted Whisky Ambassadors help you choose from over 500 varieties. The Balmoral is the perfect home-from-home to discover Edinburgh and Scotland’s finest attractions. Whatever the season, the hotel’s dedicated Concierge team can open doors to some of the most unique experiences in Scotland. From tickets to the world-famous Edinburgh Festival events, access to the city’s royal establishments - Holyrood Palace and the Royal Yacht Britannia – to the hotel’s Tartan Butler Clan Tour, you’ll find the best of Scotland at your finger tips.

A must visit whilst in Edinburgh

We called in the hotel's bar twice as non residents to enjoy a light meal and drinks. Excellent environment with first class staff. Very relaxing and a tonic for the soul and mind on a very wet and windy day!

Balmoral is a Perfect Location to Explore Edinburgh

Staying at the Balmoral Hotel in Scotland is an experience that perfectly blends timeless elegance with modern luxury. From the moment you arrive, the grandeur of the historic building makes a lasting impression—its iconic clock tower standing proudly in the heart of the city. Inside, the hotel lives up to its reputation. The interiors are beautifully maintained, with fresh flowers in the lobby and hotel staff just waiting to help you. The rooms are spacious and exceptionally comfortable in a location that is walkable to everything you want to see. The service is truly outstanding. The staff are attentive without being intrusive, always ready to assist and clearly dedicated to making every guest feel welcome. It’s the kind of hospitality that differentiates the hotel. Breakfast at the Balmoral is fantastic. Something for everyone and enough to fill up before a day of walking around the city - even with 2 teenage boys! What sets the Balmoral apart is its sense of place. You’re not just staying in a luxury hotel—you’re immersed in a piece of Scottish history, right in the center of it all. It’s an ideal choice for anyone seeking a stay that is both culturally rich, exceptionally comfortable and conveniently located. (And don't miss a walk by JK Rowling's suite where she wrote the last Harry Potter book!)

Practically Perfect In Every Way

This was our second stay at this fabulous hotel. We chose to stay here as it was so easy to use the valet parking and as my husband was having an op at Spire hospital I was staying the last night by myself and wanted to feel comfortable.I could not have wished for better attention and kindness from everyone! The breakfast is exceptional and as I used to be a travel agent I am well used to 5 star luxury on our “hosted” trips but this hotel does everything better.True Scottish hospitality I would say.

A really lovely three days at the Balmoral in central Edinburgh, it’s the staff team that make it ! professional , friendly, helpful and made our stay really memorable. The food we had was lovely, the breakfast is exceptional. The spa ,pool and gym are well equipped and exceptionally clean. Our room was lovely. I would highly recommend the Balmoral if you’re prepared to pay a bit more for a truly luxurious 5 star experience. Dave Taylor
