Overlooking one of Edinburgh's prettiest private garden squares, Kimpton Charlotte Square consists of seven interconnecting Georgian townhouses in the heart of the New Town. Our beautifully formed bedrooms and suites are inspired by the golden age of travel and a genuine sense of Scottish hospitality. Sitting proudly in the middle of the hotel is The Garden bar and restaurant, an oasis of calm in the centre of the city. Light and bright during the day for breakfast and lunch, transforming in to a fairy lit hideaway in the evening for cocktails and dinner. Sample our Twilight Tea, a unique take on the classic afternoon tea with a focus on savoury flavours from 12pm to 10pm every day. BABA restaurant is a sumptuous, relaxed journey to the Levant, featuring mezze, charcoal dishes and small plates with bold Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavours perfect for sharing. Cocktails take on the adventurous flavours to continue the journey until late in the BABA bar.

This hotel is absolutely not worth the £320+ per night that I paid for a single room that was bare and dusty and lacked any basic sound proofing. I had called twice prior to my arrival to check for any critical details, yet no one mentioned a mandatory £50 per day security deposit. Because I booked and fully pre-paid through Booking.com, check-in became a lengthy, frustrating ordeal. The receptionist tried to charge me again, forcing me to dig up and prove my payment using my Booking.com confirmation email and receipt. To make matters worse, after the concierge rushed to take my luggage, it was simply abandoned by the front entrance instead of being delivered to my room. Unsolicited Texts & Privacy Violations The hotel took the liberty of accessing my phone number to bombard me with unsolicited, relentless text messages that I never consented to receive. These automated messages do nothing to resolve actual guest needs; instead, they were purely intrusive, including automated check-out texts at noon that completely ignored my pre-approved late checkout request. Zero Noise Insulation While my room was a single room, the separation between the rooms is non-existent. The walls are so thin that I could actually hear the breathing of the next-door guest. I couldn't sleep all night due to their loud snoring; it felt as though we were basically sharing the same room, separated only by a door. Unacceptable Cleanliness Standards Upon entering, the lack of cleanliness was shocking for a luxury property. Thick layers of dust covered the desk, lamps, furnishings, and heavy draperies. Worse still, I found blonde hairs on the desk and more hair under the pillows and on the bed sheets. Thoughtless Apology & Medical Risk As an apology for these severe issues, management left a generic skincare gift box. This gesture only highlighted their total lack of tailored attention to detail. I suffer from idiopathic anaphylaxis, meaning I must be incredibly careful about what I eat or put on my skin. You do not blindly offer a guest something as personal and potentially dangerous as unvetted skincare products without asking first. Lower-tier brands like the Crowne Plaza or Holiday Inn show far better awareness and personalized care. Subpar Property Condition The property is poorly maintained, featuring worn hallway carpeting and visible wear and tear throughout. The gloomy grey decor does nothing to hide its dated condition. This hotel completely fails to meet luxury standards, and standard chains offer far superior quality for what Kimpton charges. The only redeeming feature was the gym, which was clean and well-equipped.

Pluses—great restaurant , we ate here a few times, large gym, terrific staff, especially Miguel at the front desk. Misses—-we had a junior suite in one of the original townhouses….small largely due to too much furniture, two desks, sofa, two wing chairs all made the room feel small. Bathroom looks over Charlotte Square, a little small and with a roller shade coming top down, made it dark and small, rolling up would be an improvement. Gym, large, multi rooms, but Music was too loud and everyone has their own ear pods so just a distraction ! Laundry must be turned in at 9am, not 9:05am or you miss the daily laundry service, a little too rigid!

I have been on a lot of spa days and I would say this one is the best I have had. I turned up a day early- but Ricky on reception was amazing. He offered us our thermal spa experience that day and said when we return the next day we come in for our treatments. He managed to problem solve any issues we had and was so lovely in his manner. When we returned the next day he was just as helpful, friendly and kind. The massage by Samantha was incredible as was the overall experience. We also booked the swell therapy room which I would recommend. The facilities were in excellent condition. Lunch at Baba was included and everything was such great value for money. The overall value £145 for spa, two treatments and lunch was great. Location super central. I highly recommend.

Great location. The staff is amazing. From housekeeping to the front desk, everyone was polite and always willing to help with any request. The hotel could use an update. I would stay here again because the staff was incredible.
