About the Hotel

Overlooking one of Edinburgh's prettiest private garden squares, Kimpton Charlotte Square consists of seven interconnecting Georgian townhouses in the heart of the New Town. Our beautifully formed bedrooms and suites are inspired by the golden age of travel and a genuine sense of Scottish hospitality. Sitting proudly in the middle of the hotel is The Garden bar and restaurant, an oasis of calm in the centre of the city. Light and bright during the day for breakfast and lunch, transforming in to a fairy lit hideaway in the evening for cocktails and dinner. Sample our Twilight Tea, a unique take on the classic afternoon tea with a focus on savoury flavours from 12pm to 10pm every day. BABA restaurant is a sumptuous, relaxed journey to the Levant, featuring mezze, charcoal dishes and small plates with bold Mediterranean and Middle Eastern flavours perfect for sharing. Cocktails take on the adventurous flavours to continue the journey until late in the BABA bar.

Reviews for Kimpton Charlotte Square

An unparalleled experience !

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

A stunning hotel with unique characteristics and amazing hospitality. Here you feel extremely welcome. Rebecca sorted for our room incredible welcome chocolates and card left and Prosecco for my birthday celebration . Raghda , guest relations staff -You really added to my celebration- it made us feel so special having a very special glass of complementary champagne and making our meal booking at Baba seamless and adding a bottle of complimentary fizz ! What a lovely person you truly are! This is such an exclusive place and you can’t build a beautiful, welcoming hotel like this without passion and dedication and that’s tangible as a guest here . Cameron in the restaurant looked after us with excellent recommendations, Leon at the bar added to the experience with his friendly nature and delicious cocktail making and not to forget Brian in concierge who gave us the most incredible recommendation for a local Chinese restaurant. We take nothing for granted and really appreciated how you made us feel. That’s priceless to us .

Solid 3 Star Experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Very well located property and a perfect spot to launch from for any Edinburgh exploration you may have in mind. Our biggest mistake was entering expecting anything close to a 5 star hotel experience. If you enter expecting a solid 3 star experience; you will save yourself the misconception we experienced. Concierge service is nonexistent- a man stood behind the desk with the concierge plaque and directly stated we have the same internet as he and that was our welcome to the hotel and Edinburgh. We received no warm greetings or a single suggestion. As soon as one enters the hotel, the mismatched theme waring between arts cutting edge and welcoming parlor in need of a refresh sets a jarring tone. Dusty fake ivy along the walls with what I assume are intended to be “edgy” black and white photos of faded stars of the 1990s most looking unkempt and several well placed large photos with the middle finger extended. I wondered if these photos were selected by the concierge. Our most vexing challenge was the bathroom- one shower would spontaneously start running in the middle of the night even though we had not used it since morning. We could not sleep so were moved to another room with a defective shower screen making exit from the shower a terror involving many towels to escape. Pictures were shared with staff to show the mold on the floor and floorboards indicating this has been a longstanding issue. We were told by staff a renovation is expected after the holiday season. The employees were all very understanding of our challenges as guests. They don’t own the hotel; they work there. I get it. I am sure after a bit of employee training for the concierge desk, hearty infusion of cash for fresh decor, perhaps a splash out on an elevator that is more dependable (book a lower floor and learn to love the stairs) and more attention to the plumbing challenges which mold suggests has been a longstanding issue- this property would merit the 5 star rating. Until then, there are a number of incentives in terms of room pricing and special treats like a welcome wine hour. And of course the fantastic location to keep guests inclined to give the property a try.

Stylish with a great location, but really uncomfortable bathroom design

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

I had a short stay at the Kimpton in Edinburgh, and while the hotel and room are very stylish and on-brand for Kimpton, the room's bathroom was so poorly designed as to make the stay slightly uncomfortable. I stayed in a King Premium room, and the thing I appreciated about the room was the very comfortable bed and pillows, as well as the stylish decor of the main bedroom area. That said, the bathroom was so poorly designed as to be almost non-functional - and let's be honest, a hotel room's bathroom is just as important as the living space in order to feel settled and comfortable. The bath-shower combo is so narrow to stand in that to turn around in it felt precarious and almost dangerous without actively concentrating on not tripping and falling. And, the sink and vanity ledge was so small that I couldn't balance my standard sized toiletry bag on it without it falling, there was nowhere to put your toiletries, etc, so I had to use the living area to unpack my toiletries! Sure, the bathroom is new and looks chic in a website photo, but using it felt like trying to get ready in a dollhouse. The hotel itself is in a very central location, and the nightly Kimpton happy hour is a great touch as always. The staff was friendly and professional, and made us feel very welcome. But, I have to note that we didn't receive a text or call after check in to let us know our room was ready, like we requested, which was an inconvenience when you're tired from travel and eager to get settled in. Overall, the room had good sleep quality, and was stylish - but for the premium price, the room lacked the functionality that I'd expect and had experienced at other Kimptons...

Awesome location, tremendous staff, terrific amenities

I've been staying at the Kimpton in Charlotte Square for many years. It is hands-down one of the loveliest, friendliest, and most fun hotels in Edinburgh. This trip was specifically awesome due to the attention that the staff took to make sure I had a lovely stay. Kim upgraded me to an awesome room with a view of the castle; I had a free complimentary bottle of wine in my room one evening; and an awesome massage and treatment for my mum in the spa. Thank you Kimpton Hotel for everything you do to make a stay so special.
