Misleading photos and disappointing stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

As a Hyatt Globalist, my stay at The Roseate Edinburgh was highly disappointing. While I understood that Mr & Mrs Smith properties offer limited elite benefits, the lack of basic hospitality here was unacceptable. There was zero elite recognition at check-in. Instead of a space-available upgrade, I was assigned to a tiny attic room with severely sloped, low ceilings, making it difficult and uncomfortable to even walk around. To make matters worse, basic front-desk service at night was missing: no one answers the phone to explain how to connect to the hotel Wi-Fi. If you are a World of Hyatt elite expecting proper loyalty recognition or a comfortable premium stay in Edinburgh, I strongly advise looking elsewhere. The room photos are very misleading as they can be very different.

Beware !! - the pictures of the rooms are misleading. Don't pay until you have seen your room allocated.

I booked this place using booking.com and wanted 2 things specifically - a twin bedded room with parking. The pictures I had booked showed a large room with twin beds offered. When I arrived I was shown to the smallest double room I have ever seen in a hotel at the top of rickety steps with a squeezed in a small double bed with almost no space either side. I rejected this outright - and asked why the pictures of what I had booked were VERY different to this offering? The chap on the reception then switched into Uriah Heep mode with 'Apologies, apologies, must have been muddled on booking.com, I'll look into the matter...'. Hmmm, seems fishy. And even more when a little digging on Tripadvisor yields similar comments from other disgruntled customers. It appears others have been caught out with the nice pictures where the reality is very different. Mr Heep did continue with 'apologies, apologies, perhaps we can offer you a coffee and see if we can look into another room in the annex across the road?' Hmmm, but that turned out to be nothing very like what I had booked. I decided to cut my losses (over GBP900) and leave...whereby Mr Heep finished off with 'apologies, apologies, and we'll waive the parking fee..'. Which he didn't, naturally. Hence about 2 weeks later I got a parking fine for GBP100 for a very unsatisfactory experience lasting 48 minutes.. Oh dear....BAD CHOICE!!

Had dinner with my wife and daughter. I had the best lamb until now. The chef came personally to ask if everything was ok. Anna and team were wonderful.
