The majestic structure housing The Scotsman Hotel has dominated the Edinburgh skyline for over a century, and has enchanted residents and visitors to the region since opening in 2001. This grand destination promises unsurpassed luxury. Residing in the former Scotsman Newspaper building, the hotel's lavish interior pays homage to its storied past, preserving the ornate ceilings, oak paneling, and imposing marble pillars. Located on renowned North Bridge in one of Scotland's largest cities, The Scotsman's elaborate façade seamlessly blends into Edinburgh's breathtakingly baroque backdrop. Each of the hotel's guest rooms is distinctive in its grandeur and design with elegant features including curved corner bay windows, marble bathrooms, and exquisite views of the city. The property, a part of the LVX collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts also features a sprawling private screening room complete with opulent leather seats, because nothing is as important as your luxury experience at The Scotsman Hotel.

This review is in regard to restaurant only. Did not stay in hotel. Very disappointed in both food and service. The portions are very small and very over priced. Ordered a chicken breast dish and the meat portion appeared to be below 3 ounces - just 2 small slices of meat and looked like one half of a chicken breast. Had a small piece of lettuce with a mushroom topping . Side dishes were available at an additional charge. I left hungry. We had 5 different servers during dinner. Extremely slow service. Felt ignored by staff. They had a tour group come in after we had been there for an hour and they had an established/ preplanned menu and at that point our service became nonexistent. They should have the staff needed if they agree to take a large tour group. Go elsewhere- this is an overpriced restaurant that provides horrible service for below average “small plate” sized meals. To add to the issue, they tried to add a 12.5.% “service charge “. There was no service. No apology for the delay and poor service. We felt very taken advantage of by this place.

Really great location, steps from Waverly Train station which was extremely helpful coming by train from London. And it was during the Annual August Festival when it was extremely crowded. Staff was great and accommodating, the room was nice and clean. Only slight downsides were the quality of the breakfast (which was included with the room) and the some deferred maintenance in hallways and some parts of the room. But nothing to be too alarmed, given the reasonable rate. However, the best part of our trip was the bellman Charles! When we checked out, Charles literally walked us all the way to just before our train's platform!! He pulled our two suitcases (he insisted!) and our two carry ons! Although the hotel is literally right next to the train station, he nevertheless walked us down the hotel elevator, across the street to the station entrance, down two more elevators and all the way to the turnstile where we access our platform. Unbelievable!! I've never had anything like that happen to me. Both my wife and I are not old and we are totally able bodied. We could have easily taken our own luggage. Hats off to Charles for going above and beyond!! I was disappointed we only could stay one night! I am sure there would have been other acts of great service had we stayed for a few days! Well done Scotsman and well done Charles!!

We had a great time in Edinburgh and at The Scotsman! We appreciated the attention from Connor and Jonathan, both were very helpful. We want to give Paul 10 stars for helping two beginners get ourselves, luggage and golf bags on the right train without any big issues. He was over the top helpful!! Great hotel with great people!

Not the first time in Edinburgh but the first time at this hotel. We booked a mid week getaway and the positioning of the hotel is fabulous between both old and new town. Whilst there are elevators in the hotel during our stay they were used by both guests and staff alike so don’t be surprised if you find laundry trolleys or similar in there. We were on one of the top floors with smaller windows up some steps but the room was lovely and the radio always on to our return. We had breakfast included which was good but nothing memorable. Would recommend everyone visit the cinema when you stay that is on the lowest floor. If you are staying at the hotel go down and book the tickets in person in advance of the screening rather than booking them online. Would stay at this hotel again it was a lovely break.
