Reviews for The Scotsman Hotel

Regrettable Stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 19 hours ago

My second stay at The Scotsman and it was not a good one. The room we were assigned was horrendous, it overlooked the Scotsman Steps and the wall behind it, had zero privacy and sound insulation. People going up and down the stairs can literally look into the room which meant that we had to keep our curtains closed all the time. The noise problem extended beyond street noise and we heard loud bangs, toilet flushes, door slamming and every other noise known to humans throughout our stay, day and night.

An excellent hotel experience

What an excellent hotel. From the first introduction from staff, all the way through, everyone was friendly, helpful and professional. Rooms are spacious with good views of the city, if requested. Beds are comfortable, plenty of closet and storage space, excellent wi-fi. The location can't be better, steps away from the Royal Mile, right on the bridge to Old Town. Good restaurant on premise (The Main Cafe). Two quibbles, one minor, one not so minor. First, avoid the "breakfast plan". We tried it at their invite and it was.....not good. Cold eggs, bitter coffee, few pastry choices, a total waste of $40. More importantly...advice to the older crowd...there is NO grab bar in the stand-up shower, so make sure you've done your balance exercises. It keeps you focussed, if nothing else. But, overall, this is one nice hotel, with wonderful staff and top-notch rooms. Enjoy!!!!

Great location, lovely hotel with plenty of history.

We had a lovely room here. Quite large, with a sitting area. Lovely new bathroom with plenty of space in the shower. It was easy to walk up to the Mile, and the castle . Also plenty of dining options close by. My only negative was we had to ask for the bottle of Prosecco which came with the room as we booked directly. We got said bottle the next day. We also missed out on the “Welcome” drink. I think the check in staff should have noted this and passed on the info so we could take advantage Stefano was lovely and really helpful Thank you Stefano.

5 star. Would recommend to anybody.

We recently hosted our engagement party at the Scotsman Hotel, and we honestly couldn’t have asked for a better experience. From the very beginning, the entire team went above and beyond to make sure our night ran as smoothly as possible. A huge thank you to Klea, who was fantastic throughout the planning process. She was always helpful, responsive, and made everything so easy in the lead-up to the event, giving us complete confidence that everything was in hand. On the day itself, a very special shoutout to Ferris, who truly took charge and made sure every detail was perfect. They went above and beyond, helping us set up all of our decorations and taking so much of the stress off our shoulders so we could simply enjoy the day. Nothing was too much trouble, and it was clear they genuinely cared about making our celebration special. The whole staff were incredibly friendly, professional, and attentive throughout the evening, ensuring everything ran seamlessly. Their hard work and dedication made our engagement party unforgettable, and we’re so grateful for everything they did. If you’re looking for a venue with exceptional service and a team that genuinely goes the extra mile, we couldn’t recommend the Scotsman Hotel highly enough. Thank you all for helping make such an important day so perfect!

Unberable construction noise all night

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Because of construction right under the windows of the hotel room my husband could not sleep at all. He came down reception several times at night and complained about unbearable noise. The construction work ended only at 3:50 am. The person at the reception told him that he would be compensated for the inconvenience but that did not happen yet.
