Sheraton Edinburg over all low quality

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Very low category among Sheraton chain of hotels. Would not recommend to regular Sheraton customers. House keeping seems to be outsourced and not managed well by hotel, even after requesting 10-1PM housekeeping it was not done. Huge communication gap among the staff. Requested tea cups in the room on last day - never arrived! However, Concierge team was very helpful.

Exceeded expectations! Highly recommend!

We stayed room 735 Castle View Suite with view of the castle and it was wonderful! The room was beautiful, clean and well supplied. My only complaint was the the mattress on the sleeper sofa was NOT comfortable. I highly recommend visiting the hydrospa experience. It is well worth it! The Club on level 1 for members was excellent. The food and drink were very appreciated before and after all the walking and sight seeing you will do. It is walking distance to the castle and Royal Mile but for seniors or people with difficulty walking, it may be somewhat difficult.

Great staff and a great location

I stayed 4 nights and enjoyed my experience. Staff were great from the moment we arrived and my room was spotlessly clean. The bathroom lacks privacy and the light switches take a bit of getting used to . Air conditioning was great . We didn't eat in the hotel as we had made other plans with friends. Overall I enjoyed my stay and would have no hesitation recommending the Sheraton .

Not all it’s cracked up to be

Staying for two nights as a family of five. Booked two rooms: a suite and a double room. We booked it months ago for our stay in Edinburgh because we thought it was fairly close to the castle and has a swimming pool, for the benefit of the children. Firstly, the hotel is still 20mins walk up to the castle. Secondly, the hotel swimming pool can only be used at certain times of the day by children, which is fine, but families don’t get to use the whole pool. Half the pool is roped off for the children. That is ridiculous because it’s hardly any room and means the kids haven’t got much space to play. So not really worth it if you are thinking to book the hotel for use of the swimming pool with kids. The staff at the spa guard the amenities so closely. When asked how many lockers we would like and I answered 5, I was asked do we need a locker each. I wondered if they were short of lockers and I was told no, so was confused why answering that we would have 5 lockers was questioned. We are two ladies and 3 men after all, so not as if all 5 lockers were in the ladies changing room. We weren’t told before arrival that the ladies changing room is being refurbished and male workers are inside the ladies changing room, albeit behind sheets. The sheets aren’t held down on the floor so you need to use a cubicle, but they don’t have lockable doors, just curtains. I think if I knew this about the changing ladies changing room I wouldn’t have booked this hotel and I have told customer services this but not heard back. I was also only told when at the pool side that use of the hydro pool can be used FOC by those staying in suites, but you needed to have signed a waiver at the spa reception desk, which we were not told on arrival and is so far from the swimming pool that you can’t go when wet in your swimming costume. The suite also has use of the Club Lounge. But the double room we have booked with it doesn’t. So that means only 3 of our party of 5 can use the club lounge. When I asked if they could give us all access to the club lounge, I was told we would need to pay £60 per night! As if we will pay that when we have already paid £2,500 for two nights. And we already have to pay breakfast for the double room, albeit I managed to agree a very small discount for the breakfast. So that means we can’t even make use of the club lounge so that’s an expense for nothing. They don’t even serve afternoon tea cakes with tea in there, so a complete waste of time and money. The only members of staff I’ve been impressed with are the people serving at breakfast time and the restaurant.

Amazing hotel with Amazing staff!!

We stayed here for 2 nights, very friendly welcome as soon as we stepped in. We stayed in a deluxe room which was really comfortable, lovely layout, separate shower and bathtub, heavenly soft pillows. The Spa was amazing, shout-out to Alice who was being very helpful and understanding, the outdoor whirlpool is amazing, so relaxing, and there steam rooms and saunas were also great, definitely recommend. The gym is equipped with all the latest machines from Technogym, aswell as cold towels to use at the end. The location is amazing, few minutes walk to the Edinburgh Castle. Looking forward to coming again!
