Very Impressed

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

Very impressed overall with this hotel – accommodation, facilities, staff, location all top notch. I stayed here for 2 nights with my husband to celebrate our 35th Wedding Anniversary and the hotel acknowledged this for us – Thank you very much. All the reception and lounge staff are the best, with particular mention to the Receptionist Debbie, our first point of contact and she spent a lot of time with us giving us advice and chatting, very helpful. Then Adam the concierge who also chatted with us and offered lots of help. We also had the pleasure of being attended to by Sumit in the Club Lounge. He went about his duties with complete efficiency, explained what drinks they had on offer and a full description of the wines – we both went for the South African red and white and they were delicious. He made sure we always had everything we needed, even going for a glass of water when my husband was coughing. Very much going beyond his duty, very helpful and certainly enhanced our stay by far. All of the staff are friendly, happy and helpful. Everyone was happy to assist, advise, and even just chat and not one didn’t have a smile on their face. As far as the actual hotel goes, our accommodation was very comfortable, extremely clean and stocked with the usual Marriot amenities, towels, coffee and tea. We went out for meals but did have breakfast and snacks in the Club Lounge – again always kept stocked up and replenished before anything ran out. The Lounge offers for breakfast a great array of food to have a full breakfast, including porridge and tasty haggis, as selection of cereals, meats and cheese with accompaniments, bread, juices, fruit and yogurts. In the afternoon they have fresh bread rolls and hot snacks as well as a good choice of meats and cheese, crisps etc. I used the gym daily. It is very clean and has modern, working machines Location is fantastic and only 15 minutes’ walk from the main tourist areas and a wide choice of restaurants, bars and café’s. If I have another occasion to stay in Edinburgh this is where I will go.

Not the best won't be rushing back.

Not a great experience, Spa terrible, water freezing cold, couldn't get back in locker at the end took over half an hour due to lock not working properly, apparently a common issue ! complained and got £47 refunded from £150 !! what a joke. Offered complimentary parking as a gesture ! Bar and food was excellent, restaurant menu quite limited. Breakfast very good but only just warm. Room terrible, noise and heat unbreakable, managed 3 hours slept not bad for a room costing £400 per night !!! all in all terrible experience and won't be rushing back.

Great hotel, great location, great amenities

Wonderful hotel in a great location. Club Lounge is great for breakfast and drinks if you’re a member or you can upgrade to get access also. Haggis was especially fabulous at breakfast! Pool and spa is also worth the visit and worth the upgrade for the thermal spa area too! Bed was incredible (I had to check the bed and sheets so I could purchase them!).

Our choice of hotel when in Edinburgh

A fabulous stay again. Enjoyed our 4th floor castle view room. Very large comfort bed and pillows, love the design and configuration of the bathroom - glass doors allowed light in. Nice to have two seats and a table as well as a desk. Kettle and tea supplies. Small fridge. WiFi works well. Shower pressure OK. Staff always very polite and helpful. We enjoyed a half day relaxing in the spa. Roof top outdoor spa is great and we were lucky as it was sunny. Easy walk to anywhere in Edinburgh. 5 mins walk from the tram from the airport. Overall a brilliant stay.

Castle view is more like a Tent view

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Hotel is well located, rooms are spacious, bed and bath cloathing are great, breakfast is superb. However the upgrade to the Castle View room was not worth at all because of an event with a horrific tent and loud music up until 11pm. They surely knew this in advance but did not mention anything during my reservation. I told on my reservation that we were coming for a trip as a present for the birthday of our children. I asked if they could prepare something for them for when we checked in, but there was nothing. I feel that it was not money well spent.
