Location was superb it was a walking distance from the old town and the new one. Food at their main restaurant "The Court"was delicious and the service great. As for Nathan the concierge he was of great help guided us through venues and restaurants that were really good. We had a small health incident were all staff who knew of it were of utmost help even the General Manager of the hotel attended to it Mr Nitin Ramtri making us feel at home and safe. Reem&Henry Azzam

Superb stay! Loved 1. Location - easy walk to all Edinburgh sites 2. Many restaurants and Cafes nearby 3. Spa and pool 4. Plush rooms with very comfy beds 5. Marble baths 6. Nice historic looking building and refurbed inside Disliked 1. Pool and jacuzzi and sauna and steam were intermittently not working. Staff said it was for safety reasons and offered no kind of compensation due to unavailability. For a 5* it was a let down

WOW!! The stay here was Scottish hospitality at its finest. The recent refurbishment is gorgeous and rooms beautiful. Now the court....lobster rolls to die for and the sticky toffee pudding is the best I've had in a long time. This is truly a crown jewel in the Edinburgh hospitality market.

We had a less than pleasant experience at The Caledonian in Edinburgh. We booked through a travel agent who recommended it highly & whom we trust. Our experience with them started before we arrived; they texted me to ask if I would be interested in spa appointments during our stay. When I replied yes someone else on their team wrote back saying their spa is only open on weekends, which left me wondering why they reached out in the first place. They stuck us in a room next to a housekeeping closet & thoroughfare which made it noisy day & night. The food was awful, verging on edible our last night. The service was worse; breakfast had an over 10 minute wait just to be seated & the restaurant was mostly empty. We had a snooty front desk agent check us in who treated us with contempt which is just so disappointing. We heard more than once, from the agent & later her manager how busy the hotel was with graduation & sports event in town that week, which we could care less about since we made our rez in February & fully expected to be treated as any guest paying nearly $1k a night would have. The room had only 1 mirror in the bathroom which isn't practical for a "luxury" hotel. To cap it off, our first night the fire alarms went off at 12:30am & we were ushered out to the freezing street & told nothing for an hour. The fire truck arrived & the firemen sat in it the entire time with only l1-2 of their team members heading inside. Worse, a hotel rep was carrying a megaphone during the episode which he could have used but didn't to communicate to guests about what had happened & if our passports were safe. These things happen, of course, but their response was wanting & not what you'd expect from a 5 star property. We complained through our travel agent & their GM reached out with an offer to come back & stay. However, we traveled over 6,000 miles from LA & will not return to Edinburgh so it felt hollow. We should have been credited for one of the three nights we stayed. Two couple friends of ours were booked here later in the year & immediately cancelled after hearing about our experience. They have chosen Balmoral & 100 Princes Street instead if you're looking for substitutions. I feel this hotel is a classic example of a property resting on its history to pull you to a mediocre, at best, experience. Your guests don't need a flashy Bentley out front; they need great service. Ultimately, my husband & I feel we did not get what we paid for & that is the most disappointing type of hotel experience out there.

The room we were in was beautiful with a wonderful view. Joseph at check in was wonderful and kind beyond words. When we arrived we were exhausted and were offered tea and water. The concierge was helpful with dinner reservations- we will definitely stay here again!
