Fairmont Hotel Macdonald

We visited for one-night and had a fantastic experience. The hotel was beautiful and our room was spacious, clean and felt like a true 5 star stay. The highlight of the stay was the world-class customer service. We were in Edmonton for our young daughter’s cheerleading competition, which she made known to Nella, at the front-desk, when we were checking in. When we returned to our room after the competition, there was a handwritten note from Nella wishing her the best of luck attached to a beautiful box of pastries. This type of personal touch is rarely seen anymore and really made our daughter feel special. We will be back on our next trip to Edmonton.

Beautiful classic hotel that has been thoroughly updated. The rooms are very nice and the entire hotel exudes old world charm. We had two rooms that were large and comfortable. The food in main restaurant and from room service was good. The main issues I encountered were related to what I imagine is a lack of staffing. There are not enough bellmen or valets as the wait to get help from either service can be too long. I know it’s cold in Edmonton in the winter but there needs to be a way to station a valet at the front door. Maybe a patio heater can be placed at the porte cochere for the valet employees? One of our room service orders arrived cold and was missing several items. I believe the server who delivered the food was the same person answering the room service phone line. This doesn’t work well. Overall, a great stay but I hope the service issues mentioned can be addressed.

We stayed at the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald and had Fairmont Gold access on the 7th floor, which really elevated the experience. The Gold Lounge was a highlight, quiet, comfortable, and beautifully set up with excellent service. It offered evening canapés, breakfast each morning, and coffee and soft drinks available throughout the day, making it a perfect spot to unwind. We were also upgraded to a suite, which was spacious, offered plenty of amenities, and full of classic charm. It’s clear why this hotel is considered an Edmonton icon, everything from the warm hospitality to the grand historic setting made our stay feel special. We’ve stayed here before and it never disappoints. Timeless luxury!

Extremely welcoming and courteous front desk staff. Nella, promptly conducted our check in and immediately made the visit a great experience. Clean rooms and great food, all surrounded by history. Would recommend exploring this experience for yourselves.
