5 Star hotel and staff

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

We had an amazing week at Domes Aulus Elounda. The room had fantastic views and was very comfortable, the food was always good especially in the cool living area (which is worth paying the extra for) I have a few things to note that didn’t ruin our stay but are worth mentioning. This probably isn’t new to anyone, but the best sun beds with the view by the pool almost always have towels placed on them early in the morning, only for them to stay empty until the afternoon when people returned to their prized spot. This is quite disappointing as the hotel has a policy in place stating that “unsupervised towels will be removed after 30 minutes”. This was never enforced and myself and other guests were left without a sun bed. I saw some conflict when guests took action by themselves. If you’re in the “cool living” area, you will be staying right at the top of the (huge) hill, but unfortunately the restaurant up there is reservation only at dinner time. So if you can’t get a table you will be making your way down to the buffet at the bottom and back up again, which is only a small inconvenience but is still time and effort. Snacks? None - after 10pm there is nothing to eat unless you order room service which of course, costs extra. All of the staff were very attentive and always willing to help. Particularly Alexandros on the bar who was very good at making cocktails and waitress Marina who had a great memory and remembered all of our preferences whenever we sat down for dinner. I would definitely recommend staying here, and I would love to return one day.

Beautiful hotel filled with the loveliest of staff

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

After spending a week here at the hotel we honestly don’t want to leave. The hotel is a beautiful peaceful retreat like experience. The whole place is filled with such wonderful friendly people that cannot do enough to help! Maria in the Greco Levante restaurant always greeted us with a smile and had time to ask about our day! Jason the driver who transported us up the hill was super sweet and friendly, infact all the drivers were! Cocktails were by far the best in the Blue Bar by Alessandro. He is a great bar man! The worst were in the amphitheater restaurant which were not made in the same way as downstairs and soo sweet. The food is great all over the hotel and our favourite food was in the Amphitheatro restaurant, it’s one not to miss. Breakfast was definitely better in the cool living area purely because of the peacefulness of it. The pools are all fantastic and plenty of beds. No rushing to reserve! The only thing I believe that could improve the hotel, and make it more like a 5 star is waiters by the pool. I have never had to get up to get drinks before whilst reading by the pool. We only spent one day of our holiday by the pool as we explored the island, however felt that waiter service would be expected from a 5 star. The hotel is set on a very steep hill which worries us when we arrived but you never ever have to wait long for the transport to take you up or down. The whole place is run so well. We loved it and thank you for a great stay!

Second time – and even better

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

This was our second time staying at Domes Aulus Elounda, which in itself is already a great review! The hotel continues to impress us with its stunning setting, warm atmosphere, and – most importantly – its wonderful staff. As Diamond members, we were warmly welcomed by Chrisa, who was exceptionally kind and helpful. Although the room we initially received didn’t have the perfect view for us, the team still managed – despite the hotel being fully booked – to find a new room with exactly the view we were hoping for, all on the same day after just a short wait. Their helpful and solution-oriented attitude from the very beginning made all the difference. We're truly grateful – after all, if you're on a seaside holiday, you want to see the sea! :-) One of the most unforgettable surprises was the birthday dinner arranged for my wife. The hotel organized everything: a table at a beachfront restaurant outside the resort, complete with a private driver and an incredible view. It was one of the most thoughtful and unique birthday celebrations we've experienced – but we travel every year for her birthday, usually to Hilton properties. Two years ago, we also received a beautiful surprise here, so we knew we were in good hands. The Greco Levante club team deserves special praise – they are incredibly kind, attentive, and always remember guests’ preferences, often preparing drinks or snacks before we even ask. Even last-minute table requests were handled with care and always with a smile. And the new pool? Simply stunning. This was a great decision by the hotel – two years ago, it didn't exist, and now it brings a whole new level of luxury to the Greco Levante experience. We wholeheartedly recommend this hotel – for its amazing team, great atmosphere, ideal location, and consistently thoughtful service. Thank you for making our holiday so special once again!

Second visit at this " made in heaven" resort!

Domes Aulus Elounda ( Curio collection by Hilton) offers you a nice stay at a wonderful waterfront location. I will base my summary of a full price of 7 nights with all inclusive per person ( approx 1500 euro) 1/8- 8/8. The flight not included. The hotel called our room a ” Sapphire nest suite” wich I would describe as a lovely suite of approx 40m2 facing the lovely sea. Large teracce. Staff: Staff is the best, very high ended professional staff as always at the Hilton chain. Rooms: Nice suite facing a nice seaview with Greek branded animities. Very good aircondition. Improvements in room: A bin so you can put the used towels ( easier for the maids to know). Hanging rack for the beachtowels/ swimmingclothes at balcony. Put the branded aminites near the bathtub beacuse you cant take schampo when you are in the bathtub. Restaurant: Nice main restaurantarea with tables outside and inside. The a la carte ( Amphiteatro) is on the highest floor with lovey sea view. Breakfast: Very good varieties when it comes to Greek yoghurts, bread, green sallad, bacon/ eggs. Best scrambled eggs i ever had i my life! Very good cheeseselection. You have too try the masouri cheese. Branded grinded coffe, tastes very good! Lunch/ Dinner: Very good chefs when it comes to meat. The pork and chicken is amazing. Beach: Very nice sunbeds as you can expect on five star resorts and i think its amazing that you can take your own sallad, coke, water at your own at the beach. Its lovely when you can choose to maybe visit the main restaurant at lunch one day and the other spending the day at the bech with the lunch. Entertainment: Nice entertainment with some music. Love the Crete night with the folklore. Overall a very high ended resort with the location, food and staff. We will come back for sure. I was travelling back to Sweden with a big smile one my face.

Don’t be fooled by the Hilton title

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

Myself and my partner stayed here for 10 nights to celebrate our pregnancy, and booked one last holiday before baby is born, so wanted to splash out more than we would normally before we have to book child friendly hotels etc. We would never normally pay this much for a hotel, we wouldn’t usually go 5 star or do 10 days but wanted to treat ourselves. Upon arrival, the staff were extremely friendly and informative. It wasn’t until we arrived at the hotel that we realised that it was pretty much two hotels. Cool living guests got access to more pools and restaurants/bars, whereas normal guests only had access to one outdoor pool and fewer other food and drink places. This was confusing as we booked with easy jet, and their first photo advertising the hotel was the infinity pool, which only cool living guests are actually allowed to use. Even on here, trip advisors first picture is the cool living guest only pool. ‘Cool living’ guests are basically more premium guests who pay more, which was not advertised properly through easy jet. Our room was a sapphire nest with a sea view. The room was small but really lovely and had a gorgeous balcony and view. However, when unpacking, just slightly under the bed as we were putting our suitcases away, we found an XXL dirty ripped to shreds men’s T-shirt, which certainly wasn’t any of ours. It wasn’t exactly hiding out of sight or anything, which made us question how clean the room actually was, it was quite disgusting. We made staff aware of this and they didn’t really have anything to say about it, didn’t really apologise and kind of just shrugged and said they didn’t know. Not a great start for a 5 star hotel. We also had an issue as soon as we went to the pool. We were able to get sunbeds easily, but only because we are very early risers, if you came down later than 9.30/10am there is no way you would get them. They are quite crammed together as there is only one smallish pool for the ‘normal guests’ and because they are so close together we had a really big issue with people smoking. Usually I would not be as bothered, but being 6 months pregnant, and having the next sunbed blowing cigarette smoke at me, wasn’t the most ideal situation for me or the baby. I know this isn’t something that can be stopped, so we just moved away. We had to move 3 times, each time with the person right next to us chain smoking and blowing it in my direction. We went to speak to staff to see if there was anything at all we could do, if there was any chance to use another pool or just get away from the smoke, and again the just shrugged and said, nothing we can do, it’s legal to smoke in Greece. I was aware of this, it’s legal to smoke in the UK, but I was not paying thousands of pounds to potentially harm baby through chain smoking inhalation. The people smoking also didn’t use ashtrays, just flicked it all over the floor, which staff didn’t seem bothered about. They said, “try the beach”. The beach had the exact same issue, no sunbeds, and was also right at the bottom of a steep hill you need to walk up and down. We just felt very disappointed with how much money we spent, to not really be able to use the one small pool available unless we hunted out non smokers specifically. After the second day, our wifi also stopped working. We asked staff on three occasions about this but they just kept saying they would report it. They told us to join the guest day wifi, which also didn’t work most of the time. I gave up asking after this and ended up using all my data. On the second or third day, our room was cleaned again, and a dirty plaster was left next to the sink in the bathroom. It didn’t belong to either of us so must have came from the cleaner, again disgusting but after the response from querying other stuff, we didn’t bother to even mention it as we knew it wouldn’t get us anywhere. When we first checked in, the booking system for the restaurants was explained to us and that we would need to use an app. We were also told by the concierge that we can eat in each of the restaurants once per week, but because we were staying for 10 days, we could do more. The app didn’t work at first but eventually it did and we booked them no problem. The Asian restaurant was okay, food very average, however the whole experience was ruined as it was outside, so a ridiculous amount of wasps were all over you and the food. We ended up having to just leave the food as it was getting too much. The italian/greek was amazing, no complaints what so ever. We tried to book in again as we were told we could, however they said it was fully booked the rest of our stay (we had to walk past it to get to our room every day and it was never full), but again there was no point saying anything. The main buffet restaurant was good, a lot less choice than normal hotels but definitely cooked better than a normal all inclusive and some really delicious things for every meal. The all inclusive drinks selection was also fab. However, again for a 5 star, no fresh cooking stations available. There wasn’t really ‘snacks’ available between meal times, normal all inclusive usually have ice creams etc available, but unless you paid for them in the shop you couldn’t get them. We used the gym everyday, it was fine for hotel gym equipment but was really small. It would get packed everyday and people were basically working out on top of you making it very uncomfortable and hard to do anything. A bigger gym or some form of booking system would have been alot better. There were only 2 treadmills which people seemed to be fighting for, and on our 4th day one broke and stayed broken for the rest of our stay. The hotel was generally clean, however, guests would leave glasses, food, plates etc all over the hotel, outside their rooms, on walls, which didn’t seem to get moved or cleaned for days, which then attracted loads of wasps and bugs! Literally anyone could walk into the hotel, you don’t have wrist bands and there isn’t gates/fobs to get in. You didn’t get asked your room number for drinks or food so anyone could come in. This was the case for the private beach, you didn’t need to give a room number or show a band so no guests were using it. Slightly confusing when there were small children at the beach on loungers when it was an adult only hotel, and saw some other people pull up in multiple cars with their whole family and use the beach, who definitely weren’t guests. Stay away from hotel shop. We ran out of suncream so needed to visit and the town isn’t really in walking distance , you would need a taxi due to the hills etc. It was £25 for a bottle of nivea suncream!!! The hotel entertainment seemed repetitive. DJ sets and the same film played on repeat. All in all we had an okay stay. The food and drink was good and the room was nice, although cleanliness not perfect. I would not say this was a 5 start hotel, and we are very very disappointed with how much money we spent coming here, and honestly wish we picked elsewhere. The one pool is mediocre, the staff weren’t really willing to sort things unless you were a cool living guest or you threw a temper tantrum, which we were never going to do. It is probably a 5 star hotel if you are a cool living guest, which needs advertising correctly on the holiday websites, but totally not worth it for normal guests. I would say this was a decent 4 star hotel. Needs more pools, the cleanliness needs to be sorted and some of the other facilities just need updating. Don’t be fooled by the Hilton title, it doesn’t seem like one. Honestly, the hotel you can see when standing at the main pool looks alot more premium than this one, the pool and loungers look nicer and it seems to be behind a fence. I would probably try there if you are looking for 5 stars.
