Great adults only resort in Crete

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 hours ago

This was our first visit to Domes Aulus Elounda and we were blown away by the location. The hotel is set into the hillside overlooking the Gulf of Elounda with spectacular views of the bay. We booked the cool living package which was well worth it with an upgraded room with a jacuzzi bath and access to an infinity pool and restaurant at the top of the resort. It is also worth having the upgraded drinks package. On our arrival we were greeted by our concierge Kostas who made us feel special from the start and did an amazing job of making our holiday extra special as we celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary. In fact Kostas was moved the reservations during our holiday but continued to provide an outstanding service whilst doing both. We felt he went above and beyond and we hope that the hotel realises what an asset he is to them. On a whole, the staff were amazing and we experienced fantastic service at numerous restaurants and bars. Marina, from the Greco Levante (top bar) did an amazing job throughout our stay and quickly learnt our favourite drink orders which were perfectly made from scratch every time. Staff work long hours and still ensure everything is to the highest standard. We had a slight mishap with our anniversary dinner booking and Aria personally came to speak to us and organised another dinner for us to ensure that we were able to experience this on our second visit which we really appreciated. The restaurant supervisor, Marina also personally checked in with us and made sure our dinner was perfect. The top part of the resort is up a very steep hill and the hotel provides a shuttle service plus cars that can bring you up and down which is great. Whilst all drivers were incredibly helpful, Jason picked us up several times and each time he engaged so well with the guests with his friendly demeanour. The beach whilst small, has its own beach bar and snack fridge and the water is beautifully clear. We used all 4 restaurants which all served a very high standard of food, our favourite was The Amphitheatre and the Italian menu at Greco Levante. The gastronomy lunch is quite experimental but we enjoyed trying something different. We are early rises so had no issues getting lounges, we did notice as it got busier, some late comers struggled to get lounges at the infinity pool. When we arrived, the second pool had loungers free until about 10.30/11 but before we left, the last few days they were gone by 9.30ish. There were a few people reserving lounges but most people were up and sat on them. The resort is in close proximity to various locations that are worth a visit; the marina in Elounda, Spinalonga, Plaka and Agios Nikolaos. We booked a catamaran trip through the hotel reservations and it was well worth it, it felt more exclusive, was not packed, we had a superb freshly cooked lunch, stopped in beautiful bays and had a chilled atmosphere. The summarise, we would definitely recommend Domes Aulus Elounda and would really like to revisit

Beautiful place, disappointing as a vegan

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

Lovely hotel with very attentive staff in a beautiful location, right on the sea. However the website is very misleading in that they describe themselves as having vegan options for every restaurant. This is actually wrong. We tried to book one restaurant and they cancelled for the apparent reason that they could not cater for vegans. Furthermore, the actual vegan options were severely limited in places- basically with lots of things just removed, rather than specific and bespoke options. At times I was basically eating chips and vegetables. On the other hand there were a number of different meats, cheeses and fish for every single meal. It would be very easy for a plate of tofu, seitan, veggie sausages or other vegan protein to be added as an option. After paying a lot of money for the all inclusive aspect and being sold this resort partly for the very diverse dietary requirements, it was disappointing that myself and a number of my party were misled.

Amazing week, wonderful staff who look after you and make your holiday so good.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We stayed here in July and had a great experience despite me having a very restricted diet. The Guest Relations Manager met with me to discuss my diet and passed the details on to all the restaurant managers who ensured that I always had a special meal made tailored to what I can eat on my very restricted diet. This included making me a variety of sushi from scratch as well as tailoring the Al a Carte menu so that I can eat a meal in each of the restaurants. It very rare that this happens on an all inclusive holiday I usually get very bland food and repeated meals throughout the holiday as chefs do not take the time to do this. Honestly nothing is too much trouble at this hotel. All the staff are so friendly and helpful make you feel like part of a family to ensure you have a fantastic stay. A special mention to Chrisa the Guest relations manger who not only arranged for everyone to be aware of my special diet and ensured I ate wonderful meals but she arranged for us to experience the Cool Living Area of the hotel which is an absolutely amazing experience and a must for anyone thinking about booking this as an upgrade however the whole complex is fantastic not only the restaurants, the entertainment, the bar staff and drinks are to quality. Another mention to Monica who takes the meal reservations again helping us to change when required so I would get the best experience in the restaurants to help with my diet. Alex the Batman who always took time to chat to you as well as working very hard to make the wonderful cocktails from scratch! The beach area is a lovely extra with grab and go available there as well as the other areas of the complex allowing you to stay on the beach all day and have lunch, snacks and drinks while your enjoy the beautiful setting,

Exceeded Expectations

Just came back from Domes Aulus Elounda and had a fantastic time. The cocktails were excellent – special mention to Alexandros, whose drinks stood out every time. You could tell he put extra care and effort into each cocktail, and the quality was easily on par with top London bars. My favourite was definitely the Negroni – perfectly balanced and beautifully made. The food was also very impressive, even at the buffet, which maintained a consistently high standard throughout our stay. We had access to Cool Living, which offered stunning views and an elevated experience. That said, the standard areas were also great and more than enjoyable. Overall, a brilliant trip with exceptional service, high-quality food and drinks, and an amazing setting. Would definitely recommend and return!

Cool Living Section is a must

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We stayed at Domes Aulus Elounda for one week from 8th August. We booked the Cool Living Section of the resort in a Sapphire Zen Suite with outdoor bath tub. Having read previous reviews we requested a room in the 800 block and were very pleased that the resort kindly accommodated our request and allocated us room 826. The room was very clean and spacious with all the amenities you would expect including plenty of wardrobe space. The view from our room was spectacular with very clear view of Spinalonga.  We didn't use the outdoor bathtub but enjoyed sitting on the shaded terrace relaxing and admiring the view in the late afternoon. The 800 block is very close to the Cool Living facilities restaurant Greco Levante and the Pool areas which is very convenient. As mentioned in previous reviews the resort is built on a very steep hillside. It is almost impossible to walk up and down from the Cool Living Section to the main hotel due to the incline and lack of sidewalk or steps. There are regular shuttles up and down or you can call for a car at any time.  We did find this a little restrictive as we do like to wander around rather than sit by the pool all day.  The pool area is beautiful with wonderful views and very comfortable sunbeds. As we are early risers, we didn't have any trouble finding a sunbed. However we did see several guests arriving late morning who were unable to find beds. There didn't appear to be any monitoring of sunbeds being reserved from early morning but not used until later in the day.  We contacted the resort before our visit to ensure we could book one of the a la carte restaurants for our anniversary. Mona was extremely helpful both by email prior to our holiday and during our stay. It was a pleasure to meet her. She did her utmost to accommodate our restaurant bookings throughout our stay.  Our favourite restaurant by far was Greco Levante.  We enjoyed the buffet breakfast and lunch there although choices are limited. The A La Carte dinner was excellent. We dined here several times including the special Asian night on Monday which was our favourite. The service and general ambience created by the staff in Greco Levante was fantastic. A special thank you to Marina, Maria and Gregory who work so hard to ensure a high standard of service. You made our stay very special and it was a pleasure to meet you all. Overall, I would say this resort is a solid 4 star rather than 5 mainly due to the limited choice at breakfast and lunch and the difficulty in moving around the resort.
