Our stay at the Alila Marea Beach Resort Encinitas was a little tricky to review because the location is stunning. • Location & views: The beach location is beautiful and the ocean views are spectacular. The hotel sits near many great shops, cafés, and restaurants but you need a car to get there quickly. Encinitas was one of our favorite parts of the trip. • Rooms: The rooms were spacious and there was no carpeting, which we appreciate from a wellness perspective. However, the room had a lot of surface areas that collected noticeable dust, especially around the bed frame and corners. Excess dust is something we personally pay attention to while traveling because dust can harbor mold spores and affect overall air quality. • Wellness/mold perspective: The bathroom unfortunately had visible mold and there was a musty smell. The hotel also felt older and more outdated than we expected. • Pool & atmosphere: The pool area was surprisingly small for the size of the resort. Many of the open spaces/seating areas appeared reserved or tied to additional costs, so most of the free seating was taken early. • Parking: Valet parking felt excessive and a bit chaotic during our stay. • Overall: This is one of those hotels where the location almost outweighs the downsides because the surrounding area is so beautiful. We stayed using points, which made it feel more worthwhile. As wellness-focused travelers, we came prepared with things like an air purifier, propolis, and an ozonator to help support air quality during travel. Would we stay again? Possibly, because we truly loved Encinitas and the beach access, but next time we will look for a more updated hotel nearby.

I came here for my birthday weekend and it was the most beautiful resort and the loveliest staff! Food was great and we had great valet service from Vic and Ricky.

My partner and I stayed for two nights at the Alilia Marea and will be back! The access to the ocean cannot be beat. The property is spectacular! Not only is it clean, fresh with access to morning yoga classes, breakfast, a fantastic restaurant and bar, but it also has a cute coffee shop for a quick drink before hitting the ocean or the road. During our stay we slept with the doors open to hear the waves all night - it was perfection!
