Alila Marea Beach Resort Encinitas

The room is spacious and beautiful- elegantly appointed and the bed and linen are super comfortable. Balcony is nice. Everything is super clean. Beware - there is no shower door so the water floods half the bathroom. The property is well keep and the view is amazing, but the pool area is pretty tight and feels loud.

Because this hotel cost $1200/night and bc it wants to be a 5* resort, it gets 3 circles here. Room was not ready on time at 4:00. For this price, it needed to be ready. (It was 45 minutes late). When it was ready, the cleaning solution used in the room was very off putting and strong. Shower water pressure was extremely weak. This is not Motel 6. I am certain this was a discoverable problem prior to my arrival. No turn down service? Gorgeous location but the beach really is miserably rocky. Restaurant is fantastic. Very cute walking area. I had always wanted to try this hotel. too bad.

My mother and I had a very comfortable stay at Alila Marea. As a Globalist using a suite upgrade award, I was upgraded to a beautiful and very spacious suite, which made the stay feel especially relaxing and memorable. The property feels polished, upscale, and thoughtfully designed. The oceanfront location gave us exactly the kind of peaceful resort atmosphere we were hoping for, and the morning yoga session was a wonderful way to start the day. The staff members we interacted with were consistently warm, helpful, and professional. The ocean itself was not quite as blue as I had imagined, but that is simply the natural coastal setting and not a reflection on the hotel. Overall, the resort itself was lovely, comfortable, and genuinely felt like a special getaway. I would happily stay here again.

While my husband and I had very high hopes for this anniversary trip to the Alila Marea, our overall experience was very disappointing. In short, there was a large wedding that seemingly took over the hotel for the weekend, leaving the other guests who were staying, with poor service and an unwanted party until 3am. Despite having reservations at Vaga, our anniversary dinner was very slow and not the level of service we were expecting. The most unfortunate part was the blaring music until the very early morning hours following the wedding. I woke on Sunday morning and felt irritated and tired when it should have been a very pleasant weekend. Additionally, housekeeping accidentally scooped up my pajamas and they were not to be found. Minor detail but when it’s added to the other disappointments, we can say we won’t be returning or recommending the Alila Marea. **We did enjoy the complimentary e-bikes and enjoyed taking them to Encinitas and the dinner we DoorDashed from Rosemaries was phenomenal.

Great amenities, view, and clean hotel. The bed was very comfortable. However, service was not the best at the restaurant and pool.
