Perched atop a stunning coastal bluff extending along one of the most dramatic stretches of coastline in Southern California, our property offers magnificent and one-of-a-kind panoramic views of the shimmering Pacific Ocean and adjoining Batiquitos Lagoon. This proximity not only inspires our décor, it influences every aspect of our guest experience, from colorful activities to enchanting programming. And having the ocean just steps away from our door and open beach access provides us with a unique opportunity to be stewards of one of California’s greatest natural attractions: the Pacific Ocean. Senses spoiled, wellness discovered, occasions celebrated. Experience it all at Alila Marea Beach Resort. Indulge at the ocean-front pool deck, take in the culinary journey at VAGA restaurant, or find your zen at Spa Alila. You can also invigorate your wellness in our fully-equipped gym, ride the Electra Go! bikes, or take a walk along the sandy beach.

We recently stayed at Alila Marea Beach Resort to celebrate my birthday, and unfortunately, the experience fell far short of what I expect from a luxury resort. From the moment we arrived, the staff did not feel warm or welcoming. Despite interacting with multiple employees throughout our stay—and despite my birthday being noted on the reservation—not a single staff member acknowledged it. While a birthday greeting isn't expected, it's a small detail that luxury hotels typically excel at, and its absence reflected the overall lack of personalized hospitality. Traveling with our baby, we requested a crib multiple times. After three separate requests and hours of waiting, no one followed up until nearly 10:00 p.m., when we had to ask yet again. By that point, it had become a frustrating experience that could have easily been avoided with better communication or proactive management. The food and beverage service was also disappointing. Orders were slow to arrive, and they were not always correct. At VAGA, my interaction with the manager was particularly surprising. While I was speaking with her, she kept her eyes on a clipboard, made no eye contact, and simply turned around to signal the hostess with, "Get them what they want." It felt dismissive and impersonal rather than attentive and service-oriented. Throughout our stay, I had the impression that the staff was more focused on enforcing the property's adults-oriented atmosphere than on providing genuine hospitality to the guests standing in front of them. Great luxury service is about making every guest feel seen, valued, and cared for. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. The property itself is beautiful, and the oceanfront setting is stunning. However, beautiful views alone do not create a luxury experience. Hospitality does. Based on our stay, the level of service felt more comparable to an average hotel than a true luxury resort. I hope management takes this feedback seriously, as the property has tremendous potential but the guest experience needs significant improvement.

We had a lovely time celebrating our anniversary at this hotel. Our room was large and beautifully decorated with comfortable furnishings. The bathroom was spacious with plenty of counter space and one sink. There is a private toilet area also called the water-closet. The walk-in shower has nice features and is on the larger size. The hot water was instant which is always welcomed. There are plenty of drawers and closet space. The room has large windows and sliding glass door to a balcony overlooking the Pacific Ocean. There is a pool area with plenty of comfortable seating and the pool area faces the ocean. We had both dinner and breakfast at the Vaga restaurant and the meals were delicious. The hotel is not directly on the beach, it is on a hill above the beach area which requires one to walk down many steps, then walk on a path to the beach. We did not use the gym or the spa but they are nice additions to the hotel. I definitely recommend this hotel.

We stayed in the Grandview Room, and the Pacific Ocean views were absolutely beautiful and exactly what we were hoping for. The front desk team was very helpful, and Francisco was especially attentive, assisting us with all of our reservations. Valet service was also smooth and efficient, with the staff staying very on top of things. There were a few drawbacks. The walls were thin, and we could hear our neighbors moving furniture and making noise. One of the automated screens and the fire-pit did not work during our stay, and the cold plunge looked a bit dirty, so we decided not to use it. Overall, this is a great option for a relaxing staycation with stunning ocean views. It is also conveniently located near Carlsbad Village, with great restaurants like Campfire and the Michelin-starred Jeune et Jolie nearby.

I am writing to share some feedback regarding my recent stay at Alila Marea, checking in on June 21 and checking out today, June 22. Around 8:00 AM this morning, I called the front desk to request a late checkout. As a Globalist member, I understand this is subject to availability, but the response (man) I received was highly unprofessional. The receptionist who took my call was impolite and abruptly stated that 12:00 PM was the absolute latest possible checkout. When I requested to speak with a manager, I was told one wouldn't be available until 8:30 AM. Surprisingly, ten minutes later, the same receptionist called me back to inform me that he had coordinated with housekeeping and could extend my checkout to 2:00 PM. When I asked if the hotel was fully booked today, he confirmed that it was not. While the extension was granted, the initial interaction was entirely uncalled for. The associate was dismissive and spoke over me before I could even finish my sentences. As a frequent traveler who relies on Hyatt, this is the first time I have encountered this type of treatment. The entire experience left me so uncomfortable and upset that I decided not to beg for a late check out; I packed up and checked out of the hotel at 10:00 AM. Additionally, upon reviewing my final folio, I noticed that a $60 valet parking fee was charged to my room. As a Globalist member staying on an eligible award, complimentary parking should be included, and I have never been charged for this on previous stays. So far, I have never received any responses from the management from the Hotel despite my 2 times request to respond my email.

The website was misleading compared with other resorts of the same caliber. VAGA and its staff were the only bright spots of the trip. Unfortunately, the pool staff was extremely disappointing. When I requested a glass of water, I was directed to the water jug instead of simply being served. Drink wait times were sometimes as long as 45 minutes, and when I tried to go to the bar myself, I was told that my server would come to me and that the bar could not serve me directly. Several times throughout the day, the server did not acknowledge us even when we were clearly trying to get their attention. This was very frustrating and negatively affected our anniversary trip. The following morning, I tried to order breakfast to my room around 8 a.m., but the system indicated that room service was not available until the next day. As a result, I had to get dressed, walk to VAGA, place a to-go order, and then wait about 30 minutes for my food before returning to my room. The spa experience was also disappointing. The massage therapist did not show up at the scheduled time, so we were unable to enjoy the anniversary couples massage we had planned. My wife received her massage, while I was given a rushed and subpar recovery treatment instead. Overall, the experience fell well short of what I expected from a resort of this caliber, especially for an anniversary trip.
