Isle of Eriska Hotel, Spa & Island

Overall, I really enjoyed the hotel. It’s in a beautiful spot. The interiors are classic, upscale Scottish with lots of cozy spots to sit and read a book or play games. I had a massage with massage therapist, Rosario and she was excellent. She is a 16 year veteran and intuitively integrated deep tissue with hot stone therapy. I would highly recommend her, the spa, and the hotel.

This is located on it’s own island with beautiful grounds outside of Oban and offers rooms and cottages Though not convenient to get to it is worth the drive and I encourage you to go to their website for details

My wife and i stayed for a long weekend and were greeted by the most friendly faces who could not have been more helpful. We had been looking forward to visiting as friends of ours had raved about the place and recommended. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint and much like our friends, we will also recommend! The food, the atmosphere, the facilities were beyond 5-star and the staff were always on hand to help and enhance our experience. On check out we were greeted by the General Manager and had a great conversation about what do do next time we visit, which we certainly will do. In fact, we are already planning it. We have been fortunate to enjoy a number of weekend getaways this year at some beautiful venues across Scotland, but this was on another level. 5 STAR PRICES WITHOUT THE EXPERIENCE! 6-09-26 Extremely disappointed. We were bought a night here for the day after we were married and were expecting something special. We had to lug our own bags in from the car and back when leaving. On arrival we sat at the check in desk and we're given a little map to find out way around. My wife was late for her massage due to us getting lost when trying to find the Spa following the instructions the staff member on desk had given us. The room was definitely not 5 stars. We stayed in Soay room which had bubbling plaster from dampness above one of the windows and black mold on the ceiling in the bathroom. The menu was terrible. The main choices were, duck, lamb, fish. I mostly eat chicken or beef but I can stomach lamb. Not this lamb. It was the toughest medallions of lamb I've ever tasted. Riddled with grizzle and fat. The starter and dessert were okay. The place is full of Americans at awe to be staying in a Scottish castle who seemed to be enjoying themselves. The checkout experience was even worse. Waiting for 5 to 10 mins with nobody on checkout desk and then being asked "Are you okay to take your own bags to your car?" by the older gentleman on desk. This should not even be a question for a 5 star hotel!. I called the following day and asked to speak to the manager Robert. He came on the phone with a terrible attitude. He said " Oh your the couple that mentioned about bringing your mum back for a visit". He never took anything I said onboard and pretty much slammed the phone down on me. I guess by the time you get to his age and you're still working in hospitality you kind of get fed up and that flowed across in his attitude on the phone. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY STAYING HERE! Go and stay at a real 5 star hotel not a pretty run down castle with grumpy unemphatic staff. Would never go back. The owners need to speak to Robert and some of the grumpy staff ASAP.

This is a review of The Deck restaurant within the hotel & spa facility. Could not find an entry for The Deck as a standalone restaurant to review it there. Staying locally with no evening dining in option and so we had to venture out! This was nearby and is located on an island although you would barely notice it on the drive. Very secluded and in fact the hotel seems to be the only thing on the island. The main hotel is an old building that you instantly see when you drive up and park. However this is not where The Deck restaurant is co-located with the spa in a separate building hidden from view from the hotel and the car park. So we wasted some time wandering in and around the main hotel trying to locate The Deck or even someone to ask. Anyway we found it. As we would soon find out we would not be under any time pressure from this delay. The Deck has a sort of Scandi chalet type feel to it. Elevated on the first floor (that's 2nd floor for US visitors) and so offers a nice view over the water. Menu is a selection of small dishes and so, as typical with such menus, you have no idea how much food to order. Menu advises 5-6 for a couple but no two dishes are equal. Probably best to share everything as dishes are served as and when they are ready. As such there is no strict concept of a dish being a starter or a main for serving sequence but clearly some dishes are going to be more substantial than others (and twice the price). But the dishes will still come in whatever order the chef turns them out. Feels like a mistake to me. A bit of common sense menu sequencing would have been welcome. All food options we ordered were tasty but in fine dining portions. At least one of the dishes is Triple Cooked Chips to fill up on. As a couple we spent £80 between us on food alone and could have eaten more. So felt overpriced. £60 would be more reasonable. Restaurant not busy and so was lacking in any 'vibe' . This seemed offset by the music being pumped out at a higher than normal volume and did not really fit with the ambiance of the restaurant. It felt like it was playlist of the chef who is on full display as the kitchen is open to the restaurant. Food was served promptly and so we were in and out in remarkably short time. Probably about 45mins. Not one for a romantic slow dinner. But that gave us time to walk around the island before the sun went down.
