Great stay in Hotel Palacio

My husband and I recently enjoyed a two-week stay at Hotel Palácio Estoril, and from start to finish, it was exceptional. Check-in was seamless, with our room ready upon arrival. The room itself was not large but perfectly comfortable and very well presented — and since we spent most of our time out and about, it suited us just fine. Breakfast was a real highlight: plentiful, fresh, and constantly replenished. The service was well organized, which made it a stress-free and enjoyable start to each day. The pool area was another favorite spot, beautifully maintained with helpful attendants always on hand to make sure we had what we needed. We also dined in the hotel one evening, and it was a truly memorable experience. Wilson and the other waiters could not have been more attentive — offering excellent recommendations and wine pairings. The service was perfectly paced, allowing us time to really enjoy each course. As for the location, Estoril itself is quite peaceful with not a huge amount to do, but Cascais is just a short, pleasant walk away (or a quick Uber ride). All in all, this is a true 5-star hotel delivering 5-star service and hospitality. Every member of staff went out of their way to make our stay special. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Wonderful trip.

This hotel was recommended by a friend who was having her wedding at Forte da Cruz and it did not disappoint. The hotel is beautiful, from the entrance of the hotel to the garden and pool. We were lucky to have a room that had a view of the pool area, facing the Estoril Casino and the ocean where we saw the sunset every day. The hotel is very clean and their house keeping service is outstanding, their employees always made sure our bed was made, the carpets were vacuumed, had clean towels regularly, and the cleaning staff was so polite and sweet. The breakfast buffet was such a great way to start our day, Martha, the hospitality director would even have pancakes specially made for my 3-year old son every morning (because he is a picky eater) and even found ways to interact with him in order to get him to eat his food such as giving him a "surprise", which involved a sheet of paper and something to color; she was such a great part of our experience and so lovely. The bellman staff was extremely helpful, we looked forward to seeing them daily and asking what they would recommend to do around the area. They always helped with luggage, opening doors, answering questions, and helping me with my stroller (which at times was heavy), they provided excellent service. Vosco was one of the employees we would speak to every day and he made us feel right at home, always courteous and such a pleasure to be around; exceptional service. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel and looking forward to the next time I am able to plan my stay at the Palacio Hotel.

Needs care and attention

I have just completed my tenth stay at Hotel Palacio. My husband and I have been returning every year with our three sons. Unfortunately, after a deeply disappointing stay last year due to poor, inattentive service, I spent 45 minutes discussing the issues with a manager, and on this trip I had truly hoped we would find better service. Despite its frayed edges, I have always loved the old-world charm of the property. It’s a place I genuinely want to thrive. The rooms are old fashion, the furnishings and fabrics from a different time but the hotel is seeped in history and its old bones are charming. However, the overall quality of service is poor. Staff often congregate behind the front desk or concierge, chatting. The front desk staff is usually in the back office with no on at the actual front desk when you come in. It's almost like they avoid having to greet a guest. I thought many times it was an English language discomfort/barrier but after many years thinking that was the problem, I know it's not the case. While the bellmen were friendly, there’s a general lack of energy and engagement (aside from one standout individual whose name I unfortunately didn’t catch). The breakfast staff seemed uninterested and disengaged, just going through the motions of getting breakfast to guests with no sincerity or care. While the pool attendant was diligent, he never once offered to set up towels, or even open the umbrella unless asked, which seemed peculiar. The guest rooms are a good size but mattresses and bed pillow are old and not comfortable. There are many knicks in the closets, hangers and woodwork that could be easily fixed. Rooms are clean and housekeeping is probably one of the best run departments. Before staying at the Palacio, we were at Hotel Quinta do Lago The contrast could not have been starker. Though both hotels have older decor, Quinta do Lago’s staff was professional, welcoming, and attentive. We were greeted by the resort manager upon arrival, and by the second day, the staff knew us by name. I had expected a Small Luxury Hotels (SLH) property to exceed LHW’s standards, given its smaller size, but I was very wrong. Service at the Palacio is well below par, and the lack of attention to detail and customer experience is driving the property into decline. It’s disheartening to say, but the Palacio is losing its identity and soul. I did not see the guests that had been coming to the hotel year after year around the pool this time. I know that many had been disappointed, as we were last year, and I guess they had enough. I don’t normally share complaints, but this experience has been deeply disappointing. The hotel could be great but it clearly lacks direction, leadership, and care. If things don’t change, Palacio risks becoming a two- to three-star property with a substandard client base.

Easy access to Lisbon.

I loved this as our final stop on a golf trip booked by Golfbreaks. We had a relaxing ending. Easy way into Lisbon, albeit a train strike. Staff very helpful. Excellent breakfast. Excellent dinners.
