Great expectations lead to great disappointments

I waited two days to write this review to see if my mind would be changed. As I’m writing this review, I’m listening to two men in the room next-door to me at 1:30 in the morning making all kinds of ungodly sounds. The sad thing about this hotel is it could be amazing and it’s had an amazing history. In my opinion, anybody that rates this hotel above one star it’s because they’re just an enamored by the James Bond history. The check-in experience was miserable. So far, two nights in a row they gave me the completely wrong order for my wife and I no matter how many times I point to the item on the menu and say this is what I want. There’s a lady that works in the breakfast area that I would fire immediately the real problem is that the hotel no longer knows if they want to be a golf resort, a business conference center, or the James Bond hotel. When we showed up, there was some type of business conference going on. After 18 hours of flying, we just wanted a midday jet lag nap. After waiting 2 1/2 hours to get into our room, we lay down and they started doing fire alarm test. I went downstairs to find a private place to do phone calls the business center was being used as a storage room for the business conference. So I had to do my business in the lobby amongst 200 to 300 people for a conference and fire alarms going off. The next day we went out into the grass area to play with our daughter and there were so much trash left over from the event the day before we spent 15 minutes, picking up bottle caps, cigarette butts, and trails of paper that they just left out there. It’s an absolute travesty to the history of this hotel, the way that current management treats it. Portugal is one of my favorite countries. Lisbon is one of my favorite cities in the world. There’s so many amazing hotels here do yourself a favor. Stay at one of them and just visit this one for the day if you wanna come see the James Bond history.

Now back in NYC but we are already missing the Palacio Hotel

Nearly everything at the Palacio was pitch perfect. The staff are amazing; they never refused an accommodation, no matter how unusual. The excellent breakfasts are served from 7:30 to 10:30 am, a full three hours. Access to the Banyan Tree sauna/steam rooms/jacuzzi pool are included in the experience at no extra cost. Naturally, no hotel is perfect, however, and even the Palacio could make a few improvements. Among these, I believe the hotel should expand the number and variety of cable/TV channels to something approaching that of comparable hotels found in the US or UK; I also think the bathrooms should updated to include safety hand bars in the bath tubs as well as more towel racks; finally, the hotel should install a new elevator in the lobby (at present, there are only two, and during our recent two-week stay, one of those two was not running at all). Apart from these minor annoyances, we loved our time there, and hope to return. We would give the Palacio our very strongest recommendation.

Beautiful hotel, relaxing pool, good breakfast, very friendly staff, especially as HH Diamond Member I felt very much appreciated. Extremely good location near to trainstation and beach as well as many restaurants.

Relaxing luxurious experience

The place oozes charm and luxury. Breakfast is wonderful and takes place in a beautiful, almost ballroom-like room with large windows. The room is equipped with everything you could need and has been very thoughtfully designed, with every detail carefully considered.
