The NH Collection Firenze Porta Rossa, part of the Lifestyle collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, is thought to be the oldest hotel in Italy, complete with a 13th-century tower and ancient frescoes. It has an outstanding location in the center of Florence, just a few minutes’ walk from the famous Duomo and Uffizi Gallery. The hotel’s 72 rooms are the epitome of sophistication, fusing old-world charm with modern furnishings in ivory cream and brilliant red.

All of the staff were kind, generous with their time, smiled, made eye contact, spoke in calming tones, kindly tolerated the five italian phrases I know. I will always recommend this hotel and I will stay again. At check-in, Antonietta was very kind, patient, and yuck with resolutions. I made the mistake of not reserving a twin room. No twin rooms available that evening so she offered the alternative of having housekeeping make up the bed “German style”. This worked well and we did not need to change rooms. Housekeeping came in that evening and the housekeeper was so kind and took her time making up the bed for us. The doorman was so excited to tell us the history of the hotel and about the construction. He radiated energy. The barman (Giuseppe?) was attentive without being obtrusive. The day we checked out was my birthday and there was a Happy Birthday mat in front of the door. That was really special. The location was perfect; walking distance to everything including the train station; and a pharmacy right across the street.

After our first experience with an NH Collection hotel in 2017, we have always looked for NH Collection whenever we're in Europe - Madrid, Barcelona, Lisbon, Porto - and they were all excellent. Sadly, Porta Rossa in Firenze was a bit disappointing. 1) Since we were staying for 9 nights, it would have been good service to give us a better, more comfortable room. We got Room 202 that was on the second floor, where we were so close to street noise till 3am (and there were no mitigating curtains or shades to muffle sound). The bathroom was so small that 2 people cannot share it. There were a couple of nights that we had very little hot water in the shower. The breakfast spread was just okay, there was not a variety of fruit, and you had to pay extra for omelets (these were included free in other NH Collections). THE STAFF WAS EXCELLENT!!!!

Another fabulous stay at this hotel. I think it's one of my favorite areas. Close proximity to all the sites and stores. The rooms are modern and beautiful. Staff is great especially Nadine and Gianni. Highly recommend staying here. Breakfast is delicious with great selection.

The hotel was amazing in every way except the bar which was very disappointing. Bartender was horrible and drinks were incredibly overpriced.
