In the center of Florence within easy walking distance of the Arno River, Montebello Splendid is a magnificent historical building that has been transformed into an intimate hotel. This sumptuous dwelling boasts Tuscan-style loggias looking out over a tranquil garden, and sensuously decorated accommodations adorned with stuccoes, parquet and marble. Your immersion in Florentine grandeur continues in Capriccio restaurant, which extends to a luminous veranda, and Il Portico, a mosaic-clad bar ideal for a refined evening aperitif.

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights from 5th May (wedding anniversary trip). We were not disappointed. The decor, ambience, cleanliness, food and service were superb. Special shout out to Eda at breakfast who was exceptional for her customer service, the lady who checked us in on the 5th May and helped us practice our Italian, plus the gentlemen who checked us out. All lovely people delivering exceptional service. Highly recommend!

First the positive...beautiful boutique hotel with a combination of antique and modern with the touches of an top interior designer. Beautiful courtyard and close to the train station. Exceptional service from Dario at the front desk who made great recommendations, reservations and enthusiastically greeted us each day. Now the not so positive...Breakfast was not up to par with other boutique hotels we've stayed at in Italy and France. The continental breakfast is weak and your only hot choice is scrambled eggs. Yes you can order an omelet or French toast for an upcharge, but it is not included when you purchase breakfast. 70% of the time we didn't even get asked if wanted anything besides coffee. Internet is great in the lobby but weak in the rooms. We choose hotels with good accomidations, good location and a great breakfast to start the day. This hotel did 2 out of three and is fixable if management wants address. Would not stay here again

A 4 night visit, our first in florence so wanted something fairly central. It did seem pretty expensive but I think this is common in the city. Staff were friendly but we didnt really need anything doing. The room cleaning was strange as I expected it to be completed in the morning but the cleaner was coming round later afternoon when I expect most people are in the room. Therefore only cleaned 2 out of 4 times. I dont think I would go back as it was a little further out than I would expect and price too high but maybe it is ok for a first time visitor.

Disappointing. We stayed a week, very average room next to a lift. There is a Restaurant but only for breakfast, in afternoon or evening its preprepared snacks and limited areas to sit. We paid e28 each for a modest buffet breakfast with scrambled eggs. An omelette (not very good) was an extra e12 - just switching from scrambled meant one breakfast cost e40 that day! Not worth it. This 4* has no spa and no fulltime restaurant, small rooms and on the fringe of the center plus a mosquito problem. Only saving grace were the staff - generally very good.

Do not use the laundry service and be prepared for some other potential issues with sink drainage and sewage odors in the bathroom. Also don't expect a room with a nice view unless you really figure out what they have with a nice view. Although we were on a higher floor, our view was worthless. I understood the outside laundry service was closed on Sundays and we were leaving early Monday morning. So I made it clear that I needed my bag of clothes back by Saturday evening. That seemed fine when I dropped my bag off on Friday evening with reception. And the paperwork said it would be done by 8 pm Saturday. But it wasn't back on Saturday evening and the receptionist said he couldn't do anything because the laundry was closed. On Sunday morning a different receptionist understood our situation, called the laundry service even though it was closed and got our clothes back (though we had to follow up at least once more). But the clothes had a bad smell like mold or body odor even though they were pressed. And the hotel charged about 130 euros! For my wife's clothes, we found a good Laundry King a few blocks northeast, for about 10 euros, and the results were fine. The lobby areas were nice, probably 4 stars. The beds were okay. The location was acceptable if you don't mind a longer walk to the main attractions and better restaurants.
