About the Hotel

With views of cascading hillsides and the aroma of ripened grapes, Podere San Filippo, a member of Small Elegant Hotels, is a Tuscan treasure. Situated just outside the charming village of Tavarnelle in the Chianti region, this lovely hideaway rests on 700 acres and houses a dozen luxury flats divided among a pair of traditional farmhouses. Each pied-a-terre is cloaked in warm Mediterranean hues with fully equipped kitchens and fabulous views of the grounds and beyond. There is a heated outdoor swimming pool, as well as plenty of quiet nooks to enjoy al fresco dining or something as simple as a glass of wine and a good book.

Beautiful property but treated like second class citizens

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 10 months ago

We stayed at Podere San Filippo in a two bedroom apartment with our 1 year old son and nanny in June 2024. The property was beautiful, the apartment was comfortable, and Alberto at the front desk went out of his way to make sure we had a wonderful experience, organizing activities and restaurant reservations and accommodating any last minute changes. He was great with our baby and very kind to us. He deserves a gold medal and a raise! Thank you Alberto! That being said, other than the lovely Alberto, I probably would not recommend Podere San Filippo to other families. While it is on the property of the COMO and is advertised as part of it, the hotel unfortunately makes guests at Podere feel like they do not belong there. Despite being told upon initial booking that all charges incurred at the hotel would be added to our apartment bill at the end of our trip, for the majority of the trip they demanded we pay for every charge after each experience at the hotel with our credit card. We were told it would cost 75 euro per person per day to use the (small) hotel gym, and that we were not allowed to use the hotel pool (the pool at Podere does not have any services). Moreover, we had a car (essential if you're staying at Podere), but whenever we went out to do activities alone, our nanny and son were essentially stranded at the apartment because the hotel does not provide any sort of shuttle service to and from the apartments, and it's a 25 minute walk uphill on a dusty road. There is no room service or food delivery, though it would be very easy for the hotel to batch a nightly food delivery to Podere if they chose to. In regards to the COMO itself, we were not that impressed with the wine tastings or the food tour of Siena that we booked through them, and we did not think that the food was that great (though we did not dine at La Torre, the Michelin starred restaurant). I did enjoy my tennis lesson, but I certainly would have regretted staying here if we had paid double the amount per night for a room at the hotel. In sum, I do not think this property is worth the price you pay for these rooms when there are so many villas you can rent nearby at a similar nightly rate without the amenities of a hotel, since the most of the amenities aren't really available to Podere clientele.

Never Again

This is not our first visit to a Como resort but it’s definitely our last to Castello Del Nero. We booked through a travel agent and were told the whole hotel was booked out and we could take accommodation on their nearby property at Pondere SAN Filippo. 24 hours before checking in my husband received an email from the resort to inform us that the entire resort was booked out. What were we to do 24 hours before check in? We had hired a car and planned our trip around Tuscany with 2 nights at the resort. On arrival we were informed we were to receive a breakfast box at 8am or 8.15am ( is this school camp time not holiday time) and also told that we had NO access to any of the facilities at the main property. We were offered people (massage, yoga etc)who could come to us. Where were we expected to go for meals? The closest town was approximately 30 minutes down a windy muddy narrow road. As compensation we were offered $100 voucher to be used at the resort ( which we had no authority to attend. ) We were horrified at the treatment we received from a chain of this calibre supposedly in the “ hospitality “ industry they were far from hospitable.

Prachtige appartementen in de Chianti

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed April 11, 2024

Aanrader!

Luxury in the Tuscan countryside

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed August 27, 2023

This place was awesome! This property is on the other side of the large property of Como Castello del Nero. The rooms are actually apartment suites - the rooms were large, spotless and well-stocked, with brand new everything. There is a beautiful pool with views of the Tuscan countryside, about the same size as the pool at Castello del Nero but much, much quieter, most of the time there was no more than one other family using the pool. There is no restaurant on the property (each suite/apartment has a small kitchen) but breakfast is served daily at Castello del Nero or you can find lots of things to eat in town which is minutes away by car. We did go to the Michelin star restaurant at the main hotel which was exquisite, Very easy to drive all around Tuscany to explore the sights and to sample the many wonderful restaurants in the area. Lots of beautiful hiking and running trails all over the property. Would highly recommend!

amaro ritorno al Borgo San Filippo

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed June 28, 2022

Peccato, peccato davvero!!
