About the Hotel
In the mid-15th century, the noble Davanzati family donated a swathe of land on the Fiesole hills to a Franciscan order. Five centuries later, the monastery they built was to become Villa San Michele, a Belmond Hotel in Florence. Capturing all the romance of the Renaissance, the hotel boasts interiors steeped in history, lush Italian gardens and unparalleled views of the city and the Chianti hills beyond. Architectural highlights include a façade attributed to Michelangelo and a romantic, arched Loggia, now the hotel’s panoramic restaurant. From here, sunset views embrace the silhouetted domes and turrets of the Florentine skyline. In the nearby Cloister Bar, gentle piano music provides a soundtrack for stargazing through the glass roof. Forty-five individually designed rooms and suites are arrayed across the monastery building and gardens, including a private three-bedroom villa.
Inviting sanctuaries with custom-made furniture and Carrara marble bathrooms, many benefit from private gardens or terraces. The immaculate gardens burst with lemon trees, orange blossom and fragrant roses. Each spring, a centuries-old wisteria swathes the lawn-facing façade in purple blooms. The heated pool, perched on the hillside, offers breathtaking views of the Arno Valley. Private picnics, alfresco massages and yoga classes can all be enjoyed in the gardens. A changing exhibition of contemporary artworks and site-specific installations keeps the hotel’s creative spirit alive.

The most beautiful hotel Belmond Villa San Michele
Of all the world’s great hotels I’ve stayed in, Belmond Villa San Michele is now my number one. Jasmine-scented air, absolute serenity, and Florence glowing at sunset as you sip an aperitivo… the kind of place that makes you wish time could stand still.

A special return to a place we love
Villa San Michele has held a very special place in our hearts since 2019, when my husband proposed to me on the terrace. Returning this time with our son made the stay especially meaningful, and we loved every part of it. Our suite was fantastic, with a beautiful design, an exceptionally comfortable bed and wonderful bedding. The marble bathroom was sumptuous and thoughtfully stocked. The attention to detail throughout the hotel is remarkable. Everything we ate was delicious, the little gifts left in our room were thoughtful touches that showed genuine care for the guests. Every member of staff we met was warm and welcoming. Some even took the time to chat with our 8 year old, which made him feel special too. We also had the pleasure of chatting in Romanian with two members of the team, who were both incredibly sweet. We would especially like to thank Katerina for taking care of our needs. Her warmth, care and professionalism made our return memorable. She is a wonderful representative of Villa San Michele. We are already looking forward to our next visit.

Villa San Michele is an extraordinarily beautiful place to stay when visiting Florence. The rooms are luxurious and the garden apartments offer guests their own private hideaway to relax in and take in the wonderful views over the hills down to the Duomo. Once you experience Villa San Michele you are very reluctant to leave!
