Beautiful Location, But Not Worth the $350 Per Night

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

I came to TripAdvisor to read reviews of this hotel, so I think it’s only fair that I share my experience as well. The location and beach amenities were definitely positives. The hotel is directly across the street from the beach and provides two beach chairs, towels, and an umbrella. The umbrella was a major plus because that is very rare for hotels along this strip. Considering the resort fees hotels charge, I honestly feel that all of the hotels in this area should provide umbrellas with their beach chairs. I also enjoyed the living room balcony because the view was amazing. Unfortunately, the furniture was uncomfortable, so after sitting for a while, you had to get up. The bedroom balcony had only a side view, and the furniture out there looked so dirty and worn that I never wanted to sit on it. I was surprised that the hotel had not taken the time to clean the cushions. Unfortunately, the beach amenities and the living room balcony view were about the only things I really enjoyed about my stay. I booked the W Suite Oceanfront Corner Suite with a balcony, expecting a luxury experience. Unfortunately, the room was very old and dated. There was only one nightstand, which meant everything in the bedroom had to be plugged in on one side. The rug was old and stained, and the plastic chair in the living room did not match the rest of the décor at all. I know some people may say, “You’re going to be outside at the beach or by the pool anyway.” But when I am paying $350 per night for a luxury suite, I expect the room itself to be comfortable and feel luxurious. This room did not deliver that experience. Another major disappointment was the WET EAST pool, which was one of the main reasons I chose this hotel. The pool was under construction during my stay, and this was not disclosed on the website when I booked my trip. I only saw a note about the closure in the confirmation email I received the day before I was scheduled to leave for the trip. I called the hotel, and they told me there was another pool on the property. While technically true, the alternative pool was nowhere near comparable to WET EAST. It was located on the residence side of the property, was very small, and did not have enough chairs or space to comfortably accommodate hotel guests. Food was another major issue, especially if you are vegan or plant-based. There were essentially no vegan options at the restaurants on the property. There wasn’t even a veggie burger available through room service. As a result, I had to DoorDash food frequently or Uber to restaurants that offered vegan-friendly options. For a resort charging these rates, I expected much better. One area I did find interesting was The Living Room, the lobby bar area. They had activities such as Wine Down Wednesday with 50% off wine, Ladies Night with complimentary wine or champagne for ladies, and Vinyl Nights featuring a DJ. The atmosphere was eclectic, and the music selection itself was all over the place—which honestly wasn't necessarily a bad thing. However, during Vinyl Night, guests would go up to request songs and were told by the DJ that he couldn't accommodate requests because management had given him a specific playlist to follow. I understand management wanting to maintain a certain atmosphere, but many guests clearly wanted more upbeat, high-energy music rather than slow jams. As a result, the place emptied out pretty quickly. Overall, this hotel was not worth the $350 per night I paid. The property has a lot of potential, especially because of its location and beach access. However, the rooms—particularly the suites marketed as “luxury”—need significant updating. The hotel should also provide more plant-based food options and communicate major renovations or amenity closures on its website months in advance, especially when those amenities are a major reason guests choose to book the property. For me, the price did not match the experience. The beach setup and views were great, but they weren't enough to make up for the outdated room, unavailable main pool, lack of vegan dining options, and overall lack of value.
