Reviews for Fota Island Resort

Certainly a 5 star hotel

A hotel with high standards. Certainly a 5 star premises. I love that the small details are important. Amazing staff members that were kind, helpful and friendly.

Not a luxury 5* resort but a 3* family hotel instead

- In general, the hotel is packed with couples and young kids; this is not the hotel you want for a tranquil, romantic break with your better half. Also, the presence of connecting doors in rooms does not make for a peaceful night since doors and walls are paper thin - Room and bathroom very big, but furniture dated and with signs of wear and tear (paint chipped on armchairs and table, same in bathroom) - Food at the Amber Lounge was average: ordered medium rare steak (38€), received it well done (no pink left whatsoever) - Cobb Salad: came with 4 small feta cubes, 1kg of lettuce, one egg sliced in two which had been way over cooked and was very dry as a result, the 10 pieces of lardon had been cooked hours earlier and left in the fridge, with the result that the bacon fat had congealed and solidified in the meantime - Apple Strudel: buttermilk ice cream was congealed, must have been scooped hours in advance and left in deep freezer rather than scooped to order, took ages for rock solid ice cream to melt as a result - Pool has to be booked in advance via a tablet in the room, 45-min slots only available (my son was disappointed), but having to book a slot in the pool in advance kills all the spontaneity expected of a mini-holiday/weekend break and created a bit of stress as we had to organise other activities around the only available pool timeslot available to us - Breakfast: ordered eggs Benedict from the hot breakfast menu. 2 lovely poached eggs arrived. However only 1 slice of bacon and half a crumpet (bottom part) provided. In most non-luxury non-5* little cafes in Cork you would get at least 2 slices of bacon and 2 slices of bread. Not in this “Luxury 5-Star resort” though. - Positives: exterior grounds and staff are lovely.

We spent a wonderful two night break at fota. Everything from the check in, the rooms, the beds, the food and the spa were amazing. The staff were friendly, helpful and professional and we will 100% be returning. We even got to see red squirrels in the trees during our breakfast!

Such a lovely get away

All the staff were so kind and helpful. The food and drinks were gorgeous. The grounds and gardens are absolutely fab. Myself and my partner were on a budget and this weekend getaway was great. We spent a maximum of 530 euro and felt that every cent was worth it. 10 out of 10 would recommend.
