On the dramatic, volcanic island of Madeira, southwest of mainland Portugal in the vast expanse of the Atlantic, Quinta da Casa Branca blends uniquely contemporary style with an original manor -- site of the hotel's gourmet restaurant -- that dates back to the 19th century. Every room and suite boasts a glass wall opening directly onto the beautiful grounds, and the glass-walled bar, lounge and library beckon the sunshine as they look out over magnificent gardens toward magnificent vistas of the mountains and ocean.

I have stayed in many good quality hotels over the years. I've been spoiled all week with the fabulous food cooked by Nuno. It really doesn't compare to anywhere else. The gluten free food served every evening is of a very high standard. It's the only time I've been on holiday and never been sick! It's a very safe place to eat. The staff in the restaurant are also very friendly and helpful. Thanks to all.

We chose the Quinta because we both needed a relaxing break after a full-on few months. The photo of the deluxe room we booked looked inviting, but the suite was actually enormous, elegant and had everything we could have needed and more. On a half-board basis, our evening meals were split between the formal terrace of the manor house and the more informal white house terrace; every single one was delicious and surprising, and all taken outside. Breakfast in the garden was superb....and the walk into Funchal meant that we didn't put on weight, although we cheated with a cheap taxi ride back on a couple of hotter days. All in all, just perfect.

We have stayed here several times and always look forward to coming back. The garden and property are simply beautiful, creating a relaxing atmosphere. The food is excellent and truly exceptional – dietary needs such as lactose or gluten intolerance are taken into account without compromising on taste. The service is outstanding: very friendly, warm, and attentive, with staff remembering all our preferences. Every stay here is a wonderful experience.

Beautiful hotel in fantastic gardens. We stayed in a garden room which was lovely, there are doors onto a private patio area which is sheltered from the room next door by a small hedge, you can also move your sun beds onto the grass to follow the sun. We used the adults pool area which is in beautifully kept gardens , towels were plentiful and re stocked often to ensure they were always available. We used the steam room and jacuzzi which were very nice , however there was a child, on his own , in the jacuzzi when we arrived, jumping in from the side which I didn’t think was very safe, as there are no staff in this area. Breakfasts were excellent, plenty of choice in the buffet and a freshly cooked selection available from a menu , cooked to order. We didn’t eat at the hotel in the evening or for lunch as the menu was quite expensive and the lunchtime menu was more proper meals with not much selection for smaller plates or sandwiches. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby, be sure to book in advance as many are always booked up . The staff at reception were very helpful, advising on the bus routes and printing a timetable for us. We did hire a car to see other parts of the island , but if you’re not confident driving here as it is very steep and winding roads everywhere you can get taxis nearly everywhere. I would recommend this hotel and I would stay again.
