About the Hotel

On the dramatic, volcanic island of Madeira, southwest of mainland Portugal in the vast expanse of the Atlantic, Quinta da Casa Branca blends uniquely contemporary style with an original manor -- site of the hotel's gourmet restaurant -- that dates back to the 19th century. Every room and suite boasts a glass wall opening directly onto the beautiful grounds, and the glass-walled bar, lounge and library beckon the sunshine as they look out over magnificent gardens toward magnificent vistas of the mountains and ocean.

A haven of tranquility

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

Have recently returned from this beautiful hotel which exceeded expectations. This is a haven for those seeking tranquility, located within an arboretum with labelled trees and bushes from across the world together with a curated banana plantation. The garden pavilion provides the location for a wide choice of breakfast surrounded by lush vegetation. Rooms are well appointed and service is friendly and professional. Would love to return to experience again the peacefulness which this special hotel exudes. Graham V Cornwell

Loved staying here!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

We have just returned from the hotel having had a wonderful experience staying there. The staff cannot do enough for you, ready to answer any queries or requests. The hotel itself is set in the most beautiful setting of a tropical gardens, the groundsmen keep it immaculate. It is so relaxing and did us a great deal of good spending some quality time there. There is a wide choice for breakfast and catered for me as gluten intolerant. I had a couple of massages in the spa, some of the best I've have ever had, thanks Keila. The one area we thought could be improved was the decor in the room, particularly the bathroom was looking a bit tired. Otherwise a fantastic hotel, to which we will hopefully be returning.

Peace and tranquility

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We decided on Funchal for our holiday without fully realising the geography of the island, however our choice of hotel turned out to be an absolute oasis of calm and tranquility. Arrived at the hotel after the half hour transfer from the airport via a very good road system that takes you through numerous tunnels to be met by very friendly reception staff and shown to our room overlooking extensive gardens. The room, very light and airy with welcoming fruit bowl ,chilled water bottle and all other amenities. En suite facilities with bath and separate shower. A verandah and sun beds complete the facilities with evening turndown service every night provided by happy smiling room service staff. Within the superb gardens there are two swimming pools all providing full towel and refreshment services throughout the operating hours. The breakfast provided in a separate building within the gardens is extensive and served by happy smiling staff makes for a good start to the day. The hotel offers lunch and dinner services for hotel or visiting guests although for us we felt the offerings were not what we might have expected. Quinta da Casa Branca is located in what you might say an elevated location when considering the main area of Funchal so any walking trip out for dining or sight seeing will entail a walk back uphill at some point, good for exercise but can be exhausting if you have partaken in a heavy meal or libation. Overall our experience was an extremely positive one for the hotel, its location, services, gardens and facilities, perhaps our return visit should just be to soak up the peace and tranquillity offered by the property having experienced the somewhat busy atmosphere of Funchal.

Nuno's food is tremendous

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I have stayed in many good quality hotels over the years. I've been spoiled all week with the fabulous food cooked by Nuno. It really doesn't compare to anywhere else. The gluten free food served every evening is of a very high standard. It's the only time I've been on holiday and never been sick! It's a very safe place to eat. The staff in the restaurant are also very friendly and helpful. Thanks to all.

Sumptuously relaxing

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We chose the Quinta because we both needed a relaxing break after a full-on few months. The photo of the deluxe room we booked looked inviting, but the suite was actually enormous, elegant and had everything we could have needed and more. On a half-board basis, our evening meals were split between the formal terrace of the manor house and the more informal white house terrace; every single one was delicious and surprising, and all taken outside. Breakfast in the garden was superb....and the walk into Funchal meant that we didn't put on weight, although we cheated with a cheap taxi ride back on a couple of hotter days. All in all, just perfect.
