I watched the Savoy Palace hotel being built over numerous visits and several years of visiting Madeira so I have always been curious as to what it would be like to stay there, so when I found my normal hotel was closed for refurbishment I decided to go to the Savoy Palace and find out. I was quite apprehensive of going as it is a very large hotel and being on my own now I thought it might be a bit overwhelming, but I couldn't have been more wrong, it was wonderful, the staff from reception to housekeeping and doormen were all so friendly and very kind and helpful, 2 young girls from Nepal who did the evening turn down service were just lovely and gave me an extra chocolate as I didn't drink tea or coffee.. The hotel never once felt busy and it was so quiet I didn't hear any noise at night from in the hotel or from outside when I was in my room. I booked a superior ocean view room for sole use which was on the 11th floor, it was spacious and had a huge comfortable bed. there was a sofa in the room which I didn't find too comfortable to sit for very long, a comfortable chair would have been much nicer. I had a large balcony, with a gorgeous view out to sea with 2 chairs and a table to sit and watch the sun go down at night. The breakfasts were excellent, I was lucky and had beautiful weather the whole week I was there so I got to eat outside every morning by the swimming pool, it was such a lovely area to be. A couple of things that could be improved with the room was the clothes rail in the cupboard was far too high, I am 5'2" and was unable to reach it to hang up my clothes so I had to leave them just on the shelf below, I needed to be another 6 to 8 inches taller to reach it, also there was only 2 small draws to put things in and no drawer at the side of the bed to put small personal things in., I was really sad when it was time to leave to go home, and I now want to return to the hotel sometime in the not too distant future.

Amazing beautiful resort!! Stayed there for our 15 year anniversary and it did not disappoint! The little touches they add to make your stay feel more special is bar none. From the moment we walked in the receptionist was super personable super nice and very helpful with any questions about restaurant recommendations and letting us know where everything was at the resort. Very highly recommend and will be coming back. Have stayed at other 5-star hotels that were just meh. This one is wow!

This is our 6th visit to this beautiful hotel. We came here first shortly after it opened, and its been maintained to the highest standard, still looking pristine. We always look forward to coming back here, and would not stay anywhere else in Funchal. This beautiful hotel offers style, comfort, luxury, great food and the most friendly staff. Every friend we have recommended to come here says the same. The additional Bali Sunbeds by the pool, contrary to a previous review, state clearly they need to be booked on each bed. They dont really charge you for them, as the €90 you pay is given back as a credit to spend on the Alameda Restaurant in food & drinks served to your bed. Money we would spend anyway when we stay to relax by the pool. We have not yet left and planning our return. Superb place to stay in every aspect.

Mediocre, overrated hotel that charges extra for absolutely everything they can. The breakfast buffet is disappointing and far below expectations. They even try to charge €90 for sunbeds by the pool — without informing guests beforehand, only revealing it once you’re already there. They also charge extra for access to their mediocre “spa” (which, fortunately, was included for us). There are far better and more pleasant hotels nearby that we have stayed at previously. This one simply doesn’t justify the price.

We’ve just returned from four unforgettable nights at the Savoy Palace, celebrating my husband’s 40th birthday with our two young children and quite honestly, it was the best holiday we’ve ever had. Madeira itself is extraordinary, I cannot believe how much we saw and did in just five days but the hotel exceeded every expectation in every possible way. From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional. The team remembered me by name after only a couple of days, which felt so personal and thoughtful. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Every interaction was warm, professional and effortless. The hotel itself is spectacular. The design is stunning elegant, contemporary and beautifully finished yet still feels welcoming and comfortable. It was immaculately clean throughout, and our room was serviced twice daily to the highest standard. We stayed on a full-board basis, which was absolutely worth it. Breakfast was an abundant buffet with incredible variety (my daughter fell in love with the waffles and happily polished off a full plate every single morning!). Lunch and dinner were à la carte, with a choice of several different restaurants. Each offered something unique, and the quality of the food was outstanding beautifully presented, varied and consistently delicious. Being able to enjoy a starter, main and dessert each time made it feel indulgent yet relaxed. The location is perfect. One day we hired a car incredibly easy and reasonably priced this was organised by reception and the convenience of the hotel’s underground car park made everything seamless. You simply park, step into the lift and you’re back in your room within minutes. As it was my husband’s 40th, I mentioned it ahead of time, and the hotel surprised us with a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine and a birthday cake. It was such a thoughtful touch and made the celebration even more special. But more than anything, it’s how the hotel made us feel. My daughter declared it “the best holiday ever,” and I honestly agree. We loved it so much that we’ve already booked to return for 10 nights this summer which says everything. If I could give the Savoy Palace 11 out of 10, I would. A truly exceptional experience from start to finish.
