This is perfectly located in Funchal. The staff were kind, but many challenged to communicate in English properly. Front Desk yes, other staff not so much. We were disappointed to learn the cabanas around the pool were 80EU euro charge per day! Other places we have stayed there is no charge. The ones sitting in the pool were 120€! They said you get that credit back in hotel food credits but only on the same day you use the cabana. The only day we ate at hotel (first night 5pm arrival) it was cold windy and no time to use the pool that day so no cabana for us. Additional info. It cost 5€ to have ice for your room. 5 delivery fee for anything. So of, course no ice for us. This is highly unusual for a hotel of this standing to not provide ice free of charge. There was a bowl of fruit in the room such as apples bananas and an orange. Breakfasts were lovely- everything you could ask for, however, getting a 'to go' take away cup of coffee or anything else was difficult. Often we had to get going early and just wanted a chance to take a coffee, tea or a biscuit with us because we rushed to just get eggs made. Tip- bring your own cup with you and a bag for take away, but don't let them see you at the exit. The landscaping at the hotel is beautiful. Tip: I would not recommend the Italian restaurant at the hotel Orcidaceae. Apparently it us new. Opened. The food descriptions were not accurate and staff does not know the menu. I received spinach ravioli in alfreo sauce (heavy cheese and cream). I told them I wasn't ordering the other dish because they could not remove the spinach. I dislike spinach. I cannot have Alfredo sauce but oh well. Positive recommendation. High Tea. We did enjoy the high tea the second day. I highly recommend the experience. It was delicious. Cost was 40 euro each and well worth it. Attended 330 pm until 530pm with a beautiful view. So much savory and sweet food - it was our dinner for the day. Recommend booking the tea a day before. There was no one else at tea the day we attended. We did not eat at hotel any other time during our stay, as local restaurants were better priced and excellent! There is popcorn in the lobby but stale each day. The little ginger cookies and lemon water was nice. There is free still water provided in the room. All other items in mini bar can be found cheaper at markets across the street from hotel. To get to the hotel from airport we took the express 500 bus cost 6.7 euro each. It ran about every 30 minutes. It was easy and had racks for luggage. It dropped off infront of the Savoy Palace. It took about 35 to 40 minutes. Our room at Savoy was spacious with balcony facing the bay and hill, but we could also see the Atlantic - we were fortunate to be upgraded at checkin on a Monday in mid-May, not many guests there early in the week. We also had use of the Savoy hotel down the hill near the actual coast/cliff area. It was very very windy and a completely different feel from Royal Savoy. Felt more like a 'beach' hotel. We prefer everything at the Royal Savoy. On day three of our stay, It warmed up to 72 and the sun finally came out. We did sit out on the lawn area on a Bench style chair/lounge. It was comfortable enough for us and was not a hard lounge chair. Pool staff were nice and attentive. We were lucky to be there when hotel was not full so we were able to get this style seatinG. There are only a few and not faving or near the pool. There is a pool restaurant, but waitstaff does not come around for orders. Also only sandwiches and drinks are on the pool menu, not the pizza or other dishes offered. You must go and place orders I believe. All those items must be eaten at the pool restaurant. No real snack food available such as chips or flatbread pizzas. But it's okay. All in all I would highly recommend this hotel to stay and for breakfasts and pool. Our breakfast was included as a part of our stay/booking rate.

We stayed at Savoy Palace for about a week in May 2026, for our honeymoon. We stayed in one of the Junior Suite rooms. Pros (1) Beautiful architecture, and extremely beautifully maintained, I love the swimming pools and the gardens surrounding the main pool (2) Our room offered a great view of the ocean as well as the swimming pool anmd the gardens (3) Conveniently located; close to the center of Funchal (10-15min walk), close to the scuba dive shop (less than 10 min walk), but far enough from the center it is quiet (4) Large parking lot, no expensive valet with long wait, easy to get in or get out with a car (5) My wife loved the spa and the massage (6) Frequent and meticulous cleaning of the room (7) Friendly staff (8) Nice bars, especially on the rooftop (9) Very nice breakfast Cons (not many...) (1) On the firts day, we stopped the AC as soon as we checked in since the room was too cold, but when we came back, the AC was on and the room was freezing again. It happened only on the first day (2) Once I forgot to remove the "don't disturb" sign from the door when we went out, and the room was not cleaned when we came back in the late afternoon. There was a manager looking lady on the corridor so I asked her if room cleaning can be arranged, but she just said no, looking busy, and left. Not a nice attitude. But this happened only once. (3) Restauirant closed early, and the food choices were a bit limited All in all, we were very happy with the hotel, and we would come back to stay. I passed by a few other 5-star hotels (many are in the same area), but I thought Savoy Palace looked better than all.

The hotel is fabulous and rivals the best in the world. My wife and I had a subpar experience at the restaurant for dinner. We complained to a manager we will call JP. I spoke to him on the telephone. After explaining the bad service, he questioned me because his team that botched our experience didn’t have notes of such. He offered us nothing that we wanted. I asked for a 25 euros credit on future food purchase. He refused. I said ok, but if I write a review, it will an honest one. He raised his voice in anger and I told him to cease and desist we are ending this conversation now! So abusive that I woke up in the middle of the night. No one from the hotel apologized nor compensated us in anyway. We informed Amex Travel of the experience also. Great hotel with an unhinged manager who treated an affluent customer with great disrespect. Think about it before booking.

Rooms are great. Decorated to a high-spec. Bed is comfortable but the pillows are cheap - they are filled with polyester which has got clumpy over time! Bvlgari soap, lotion and shampoo. The hotel is massive. Not a positive in my list. Breakfast is good. Lots of options but the some of the things not the best quality. The tomatoes were not ripe, the mushrooms tasted off. Omelette to order is decent. We got a lovely welcome gift by bookong through our travel agency and being VIP members.
