Located on the southernmost tip of Sri Lanka's golden coast, The Fortress Resort & Spa rises up where jungle meets beach. Featuring towering walls, Dutch and Portuguese influenced architecture, and traditional Sri Lanka motifs throughout; The Fortress is a magnificent and unique sight to behold. Within its walls find exquisitely appointed rooms and suites designed to reflect the simple elegance of nature and be thoroughly modern at once, a seemingly impossible task that they have accomplished with grace. Find lush gardens with relaxing water features throughout the grounds, along with a free flowing pool, wine cellar, restaurants, boutiques and a spa featuring holistic Ayurvedic treatments.

The Fortress Resort and Spa entrance doors are certainly that of a fortress. As you step inside you see the stunningly beautiful lobby with towering columns in a coral hue. When you walk up the steps the view of the pool and the sea is breathtaking. You drift into the garden admiring the view and notice there is no beach directly in front of the pool. The beach starts towards the end of the hotel. Gothami greeted us and Gayan at the gate helped my husband who uses a walking aid. Kaushalya checked us in and we had a large spacious courtyard room as big as an apartment. The king bed was comfortable with a mix of soft fluffy pillows and hard pillows. The bathroom was spacious and luxurious. It was relaxing to watch the birds and the beautiful tropical plants and shrubs in the courtyard. The Sri Lankan food was delicious and Suba at the restaurant ensured that my husband had his plate topped up. I especially enjoyed the white mustard fish curry and the traditional vegetables curries. pumpkin, kno kol, ladies fingers etc. On the day we arrived it was windy, and the sea water beat into the lobby making the concrete floor damp and slippery. This was a risk for my husband as his walking stick slipped on the floor. He was cautious to walk on the granite floor which was not slippery. The staff were constantly cleaning the floor, but it was a losing battle with Mother Nature. I loved going for early morning walks on the beach away from the hotel. It was quiet except for a couple of eager tourists fishing and a few early risers. The staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome.

The room was exceptional with ocean views, magnificent bathroom including couples spa, separate toilet and shower rooms ( including rain head shower fitting) and twin wash basins. Huge king size bed , lounge space inside and out and writing desk. Security was first rate. Service impeccable from front of house, through restaurants and housekeeping services. And I haven’t even mentioned the sunsets and background ambience of the surf. Marvellous all round. Would love to return on our next visit 🤞

Hands down the best hotel experience I have ever had in my life. It is BETTER than the pictures! Amazing location. Large private rooms. Immaculate grounds. Classy and tasteful building and decor. Enormous pool literally on the beach. The BEST BREAKFAST I have ever had in my life. Eggs royale AND egg hoppers with chicken curry AND Belgian waffles AND 3 lattes, no problem sir. The restaurant staff deliver fine dining, attention to detail and effortless charm incredibly well. Thanks especially to Samantha, Irosh and Hiram who became our friends and really perfected our stay. We came at the end of monsoon season so the waves crash right to the hotel sea wall. Saw turtles swimming from the hotel! Cannot fault this place. An experience everyone should have once in their lifetime.

The location was absolutely out of this world! So stunningly beautiful. The moment you walk through those huge doors, you’ll be completely blown away by the breathtaking view. Absolutely spectacular! Our ocean-view room was also incredible. We spent so much time on our balcony, completely mesmerised by the endless views of the Indian Ocean. It was truly magical. A very special mention must go to the wonderful staff at the restaurant. Thank you to Samantha and his team — Irosh, Hiran, Gayani and Dimutha. You are absolute professionals in your field. So attentive, warm and always providing service with a smile. They were also so helpful in recommending the abundance and variety of dishes available. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious. There really is no better variety of food than what you find in Sri Lanka. From the extensive selection of Western dishes, to the delicious Sri Lankan cuisine and an incredible array of fresh tropical fruits, there was something to tempt everyone. We absolutely loved our stay and would happily recommend this beautiful hotel to anyone looking for a truly special experience in Sri Lanka.
