The Fortress Resort & Spa

The Fortress gave my wife and I a perfect January break in the sun. It scored heavily on three fronts. First, the hotel was spacious with beautiful sitting areas, plenty of loungers, both round the pool and facing the sea; the attendants were always on hand and we never felt the need to fight for a space. Secondly the food was first-rate: we particularly enjoyed the barbecued fish which we eat at our ‘special’ table at the edge of the sea. Thirdly, the staff, though not always the most polished, were universally friendly and could not have been more helpful. This is not a place suited for those who enjoy raucous nightlife; I could not imagine the hotel offering a karaoke evening. However there is one other great attraction for me. The beaches bordering on the hotel are open to the public and on my daily walks I had some lovely exchanges with various locals who seemed to welcome tourists. All troubles are now in the past and it is a warm (in both senses) and friendly island.

Awesome property and great people to take care of you. Great experience to be close to nature and the ocean. The food was excellent and the ocean front dinner was a memorable experience.

Myself and my wife stayed for our honeymoon and it was the best experience. From the staff at the front gates to all the attentive reception, restaurant and pool staff - they were all incredible. We stayed in a Premium Beach Room and this was easily the best option. 5 seconds walk to the pool and the beach, with luxury bedding and first class room facilities we couldn't recommend this place enough. One of the highlights of our trip was our morning yoga session with Rukman, who was very accommodating and was a Yoga master, with extensive knowledge on Yoga exercises and breathing techniques. He was very friendly and experienced. This is the perfect place to stay for a honeymoon. A short day trip to Ahangama beach is the only reason you should leave this hotel, but hurry back!!

Lovely hotel. We had an ocean view room, with all the amenities that you need. The room was cold with the airconditioning on, but felt damp with it off. Staff were very helpful and always smiling - nothing was too much trouble. Pool area is great, plenty of chairs. There is a natural ocean bath, so safe swimming in the ocean is possible.

Everyone was absolutely fabulous, and so friendly and helpful. A special shout out to the room service/cleaning team and the swimming pool towel man. My only complaint was breakfast service which as a bit chaotic. We were forgotten many many times although we kept reminding staff we were there and they were all very nice but it was the only thing that let you down. I would come back however in a heart beat
