Grootbos Private Nature Reserve

This was our second trip to this magical magical place and we could not be happier for experiencing Grootbos again. Our Kids were talking non-stop about our time at the garden lodge and this time we brought our best friends with their family to join us. The whole area feels sacred, the barefoot walks in the woods, connecting deeply with Mother Nature. The view from our balcony when the sun is setting, the heart-warming team and the abundance of things to explore make Grootbos a place like no other. Juanita who is running the welcome desk never run out of ways to surprise the kids from decorating the room until matching shirts for remembering. We even celebrated my birthday on another date because the hotel was fully booked on my actual date. The crew organized everything behind our back just to surprise us with a party we will never forget. Sommelier Fikile became the Title „The wizard of bos“ because he always found the perfect wine. Our Ranger Christoff became a family member for us during our stay and will always be. From taking us to sunset drives to the coast, spotting whales until playing soccer with the kids… it was outstanding having such a soulful person on our side during out time at Grootbos. We all enjoyed Lithembas miraculous Spa treatments and we sincerely apologize not to recall all names of the teams from Spa to restaurant because every person at this place spoiled us with so much love and hospitality that this journey will always have a very precious place in our hearts. Please feel acknowledged and remembered, you are truly amazing. We can highly recommend as an adventure the Fatbike tours over the dunes. The kids enjoyed the guided tours with the lovely horses and the grown ups will never forget sipping Gin Tonic on top of the hills overviewing the property. It was an honor to meet owner Michael and experience first hand how much love and dedication goes into the property, the sustainability and the community around the bay. From visiting the caves to the adventurous boat tours (be prepared for „ocean conditions“) we had the time of our life…again. We hope to come back one day, sending love to the team being forever grateful for what you made us feel during our time with you!

The food was delicious. The view was breathtaking. The staff was friendly and anticipated your every need. The finbos was beautiful.

This nature experience is one of the best I’ve had anywhere. The level of care, warmth, and support from the staff was beyond all expectations. The setting was unique and pristine. The accommodations are 5⭐️+

We had such a wonderful stay at Grootbos Forest Lodge. The setting is absolutely spectacular—the view from our room was genuinely one of the most beautiful we’ve ever had at a hotel. We loved getting out and exploring, especially the guided fynbos hike and the fat bike tour, which were both fantastic experiences. The staff were amazing throughout our stay—warm, attentive and genuinely welcoming—and the food was great. A really special place and definitely one of the highlights of our time in South Africa.

Grootbos has a gorgeous location overlooking Walker bay. We could see whales from the lodge. It was incredibly peaceful and service was personalised, friendly and responsive. The lodge itself is the epitome of luxury. Food was consistently excellent. We loved the horse riding and rode every day. Highly recommended
