Reviews for Tu Tu' Tun Lodge

Very nice, but room for improvement

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Our room was very nice with an outdoor seating area. It was quiet at night; the bed was comfortable, and it had a Japanese style washlet toilet. There is a view of the Rogue River. The dinner was excellent with salmon cooked to perfection. Right before the 7 p.m dinner time, staff came and got us where we were sitting outside the dining area and brought us to the table where we were seated with other couples. Breakfast the one morning we were there wasn't great; no fruit or pastries/baked goods. A choice of egg dishes served with a piece of toast and two slices of bacon and a small lettuce salad. The coffee was closer to luke-warm than hot. Service was very good with some long term employees who certainly knew what they were doing. We heard while we were there that the lodge has new owners. Perhaps that explains why there wasn't much info on their Web site when we searched a week or two before our arrival (we had made the reservation in January). Nothing about meal times, things to do in the area, details related to the room. Searching the Web site and clicking on links during the first half of May produced error messages: "So close. Keep casting." After we arrived in late afternoon, we wondered if we could get a cup of tea. There was an electric kettle and cups in drawers, but there was nothing in the room to tell us where they could be found so we didn't know that. When we went to ask staff they were helpful and told us which drawers to look in to find the kettle and cups. The room was apparently supposed to have tea bags, half and half, and sugar, but didn't, so we had to ask staff again about that, and they were again helpful, providing us with what we needed. Why not have an information sheet in the room that tells you all this, along with meal times, activities etc. so you don't have to seek out staff? When you book, you should be aware that there are substantial service charges added to the room rate. Our room rate was $375, but our final bill for a one night stay for the room, dinner (with four glasses of wine) and breakfast was $851, with service charges and taxes (said to be 8.5%) totalling $178.35. The amount of wine per glass is smaller than many other places - it would take 3 glasses to equal what you can get in 2 glasses in other places where we dined on our trip. The meal package for two of us cost $230 before service charges and taxes.

Perfect getaway weekend

It had been 24 years since my last stay at this beautiful lodge. Nothing about the rooms or location felt dated. Our room was luxurious and well stocked. I always appreciate it when the hotel provides actual glasses and coffee mugs versus paper & plastic. The rooms are quiet and scenery unmatched. There was some landscaping work being done at the lodge but it was unobtrusive. It did not detract the ambiance for me. Cassidy was very helpful at check in and then later when we asked about nearby hiking trails. Evening appetizers and drinks were pleasant. Appreciated the offering of non-alcoholic options as well. Dinner was scrumptious. If you are not use to sitting with other guests (a la a cruise perhaps), I can see where this might be a bit off putting, but even this introvert enjoyed getting to know the travels of the other guests. Breakfast was more than filling. The food (both dinner and breakfast) was well prepared and fresh. We also booked massages which was a seamless experience coordinated by Cassidy. At the end of our stay, the woman who checked us out (sorry, didn't get her name!) graciously split out our invoice so my friend and I could pay separately. I can't imagine an average hotel being willing to do that! I also enjoyed all the different birds in the area include a wild tom turkey that had a lot to say to the visitors. A great experience all around. Hopefully, it won't take 24 years for next visit.

Exceptional Lodge

The lodge is fantastic. Very well appointed but what really sets it apart is the service. The staff is exceptional. Always looking for opportunities to help. They make it very easy to unplug and relax. The breakfast and dinners are great experiences from start to finish

A Great Spot If You're Not Hungry

This is our second and likely our last visit to the Triple-T, as we call it. In this review I will limit myself to the hotel only, reserving comments on food to a separate restaurant review. The Lodge itself is everything one might want: elegant without airs, the service impeccable, the setting peaceful and serene with lovely gardens as well as understated luxury in its indoor appointments. The rooms are well thought-out and appointed, thus quite comfortable; all come with wonderful views of the Rogue River from a small patio or upstairs deck. Some rooms have soaking tubs, some have fireplaces and what we've learned is that using the fireplace can leave you with quite smokey clothes on the morning after. What the rooms could use is a good minimizing in terms of decorative pillows, shams, bolsters and throws. Since the rooms are in fact not very big, disposing of all these bodies when going to bed presents something of a problem. In the end it feels as if there are several additional people sharing the room; just too much clutter. The staff are wonderful, ready to assist with any request or problem that might arise. So if this were the end of the story, the Triple-T would earn a 5-Star review. But alas it's not the end. Because having arrived at the Lodge you realize you are really at the end of the line; there is nowhere to go and you are stuck there for dinner. Gold Beach is really not a restaurant option. This being the case the Tu-Tu-Tun Lodge has absolutely no excuse, at the prices it charges, to present its guests with the appallingly bad food that comes out of its kitchen. While guests are a captive audience, stuck out at the end of the line, for the breakfast/dinner rate of $100 per person/day we should not be so ill treated. And in our case, I am sad to say, not for the first time. For our third night we chose to forego dinner, eating apples, mixed nuts and cookies in our room. One should not have to do this when paying $2356 for three nights. Please see my restaurant review.

Very nice!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 7 months ago

We stayed one night at Tu Tu Tun Lodge. On our way down the coast. It was very clean, which is the most important to me. The bed was comfy. The room had very nice amenities especially the Toto toilet. It had an outdoor soaking tub, which was very relaxing after a long day of traveling and hiking. We did not have the dinner, but we did have the breakfast which was very delicious. I had poached eggs, cooked to perfection, peppered bacon, and their cornbread toast, which was excellent. My partner had the oatmeal with apples and craisins which he liked. The scones were very good also with fresh fruit and yogurt or muffins. They also had complementary hors d’oeuvres at night and a bar which was nice to get a drink and enjoy the atmosphere. The only issue that we had was they have real wood fireplaces in the room and the draft was not very good, so it made the room smell smoky most of the night, so we had to leave the door open a little to make sure the draft worked. Which made the room cold. Once the fire went out we were able to close the fireplace and door. It’s a nice ambience, but I think it would work better if they had gas fireplaces instead of the real wood. The staff were so friendly and helpful. A pleasant stay and would definitely go back!
