False advertising: Far from 5 star - description mismatched with reality.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

False advertising: they state panoramic ocean views and show photo of times before high rises blocked the partial view in our 'SUPERIOR ROOM, 1 King Size Bed, Ocean Views' room. Missing mini bar, missing bath robes and daily newspaper. They had to bring the bathrobes up when asked why we only had 1 in the cupboard. No bottled water to 'save the environment', but they will happily sell you one. Advised to drink tap water, no jug in fridge to cool it. Their featured bedding they are so proud of, is an absolute joke! The duvet had next to no feather down in it, with the majority of it being the front and back casing only. It took complaining more than once for them to provide a 2nd duvet and a king blanket on the 4th and last night there!! The 'plush' king featherbed mattress was hollowed out on either side and hard in the middle. Ask for a different pillow if you don't like father pillows that start thick and thin down to 2cm high at you neck and your head at a 45° angle getting suffocated if your a side sleeper. In summary misappropriated pride for their bedding. Shower was hot, nice bath sheets, great block out curtains. Coffee pods nice, but cheap Nescafe instant coffee. Cleanliness substandard. I've stayed in cleaner more comfortable 3 star motels. See photos of Shower and bath. Dusty lifts, dirty windows sills as you overlook balcony on 3rd floor down to lobby. The heated outdoor pool was far from heated. The heated spa was dirty. Buffet breakfast was lovely and restaurant service good in BistroOn3. They were quick to remedy the off cream supplied for my coffee. BistroOn3 is advertised as luxury dining, but having the tables set for breakfast at 7 .30pm before your meal is served, wrecked the romantic dinner for 2 atmosphere. The $36 entree for 3 unpeeled medium sized Tiger prawns was overrated and overpriced. Sides are sold separately which make a simple main meal expensive. (TIP: quantity of sides were for 3 people, so share them). Having you room key cancelled around 10am when you had pre-booked late checkout at 12pm confirmed on arrival, was rather ordinary. They need to update their website to reflect reality, both on description and photography. overpriced and certainly not 5 star (with exception of professional and courteous manner of staff and having concierge.

Lovely place to stay.

What a lovely 3 days away we had at this hotel. The staff are so polite and helpful. From our arrival to our departure we were treated like royalty. This hotel is smack bang in the middle of everything. The beach is a short walk away. The hotel has 3 restaurants to pick from and there are also a lot of places to dine a short walk away. The buffet breakfast is the best we’ve had on the Gold Coast. We parked the car and didn’t take it back out again our whole stay. Everything is within walking distance. The rooms are spacious and clean. The beds are very comfortable. The bathroom has a bath which is lovely. A coffee machine is in the room. Everything you need really. Thank you guys for a lovely, relaxing few nights away.

A Sofitel in need of an upgrade

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

On arrival to this hotel , I immediately felt worried that I had made a mistake to book here . I expect the Sofitel to be a classic 5 star establishment. The foyer in this hotel looked nothing like that of a 5 star hotel, but rather a suburban rsl ! The foyer is a shambles with pictures blue tacked to the wall above the check in counter . Not at all representative of the Sofitel brand. The room was better than I was expecting after my first impressions as it was comfortable and very large . I am here for business so I was grateful for the space and the sizeable desk . The bathroom is fine but old and quite frankly the whole place needs an upgrade . It’s fine for work but it would be really disappointing as a beach holiday destination, despite the good position on Broadbeach

Old, tired. Go elsewhere.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Old and tired. Whilst the location is great, this was the worst Sofitel we’ve stayed at. Not clean and in desperate need of refurbishment. Staff were friendly. No mini bar, no water in rooms although you can pay for them on the non-existent mini bar. No bathrobes, you have to ask. We spent 8 nights and nearly $3,500 in accomodation. Very, very disappointed.
