Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo

My favorite part of any Four Seasons Hotel is the service, and our stay at the Four Seasons Costa Rica was no different. This hotel embodies everything there is to love about the Four Seasons brand, and it absolutely jumped to the top of our list of favorite stays after a wonderful anniversary weekend here. The hotel is expansive -- with three different pools (the infinity pool facing the beach always seemed to be the most popular, despite being the smallest!), several different restaurants, and two different beaches. Even the room selections are expansive, and we were lucky enough to get upgraded to the most unreal treehouse-like suite set up in the hills that felt like we were truly experiencing every bit of magic this hotel has to offer. The food wasn't necessarily anything to write home about and after not loving the Italian restaurant and finding many of the restaurants were closed due to private events, we ended up mostly eating at other neighboring resorts. But the sprawling layout of the Four Seasons meant we had many encounters with monkeys and lizards and other wildlife, and the service was what made our stay truly special. Jorge and Dixon really went above and beyond for us -- tracking down our coats after we'd already checked out and left them in the room, fetching us with a golf cart when we didn't want to walk, and overall always making us feel seen and cared for during our stay. The team at the breakfast restaurant also helped us out with some speedy food to take with us to the airport. The only downsides: there are definitely parts of this hotel that feel a bit dated (particularly compared to the more modern Andaz and the brand new Ritz Carlton Reserve), and any visit to Peninsula Papagayo as a whole should be approached knowing this isn't the "real" Costa Rica -- the Four Seasons is a nicely groomed, resort version of what the country has to offer. BUT we absolutely loved it for what it is. We spent one night at a neighboring hotel within Peninsula Papagayo and were really wishing we'd just stayed at the Four Seasons the entire time. If you're traveling with a family or it's your first time to Costa Rica, would absolutely recommend staying here. There's something for everyone, and the service and sprawling resort layout are unmatched on the peninsula.

Our stay at the Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica at Peninsula Papagayo was absolutely incredible. The resort offers stunning ocean views, luxurious accommodations, and exceptional service. The beautiful beaches, amazing restaurants, and peaceful atmosphere made this one of the best vacations we’ve ever had. The property is widely known for its luxury experience and unique location surrounded by nature and adventure. We also booked our transportation and tours with Issys Tours CR⁠, and everything was perfectly organized from start to finish. The Palo Verde River Tour was fantastic, allowing us to see crocodiles, monkeys, exotic birds, and beautiful scenery. The Sloths Tour was another highlight, giving us the opportunity to observe these amazing animals up close in their natural habitat. A special thank you to our guide, Norberto, who was professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and made every excursion enjoyable. His passion for Costa Rica and attention to detail made our experience even more memorable. We highly recommend the Four Seasons Costa Rica, Issys Tours CR, the Palo Verde Tour, and the Sloths Tour to anyone visiting Costa Rica. Five-star service, unforgettable adventures, and wonderful memories!

Great Hotel with excellent Service. We received an upgrade to a Suite with Plunge Pool, which was amazing - thank you again. Service, as always with Four Seson Hotels, amazing. Good choice of restaurants. Good breakfast (but have seen better), nice kids club, lovely beaches. The only downside was that we had to queue couple of times to be seated for breakfast - the breakfast area may be too small for the size of the hotel. Great experience, likely to return one day. Spent a week at the Four Seasons Resort Peninsula Papagayo in April. We enjoyed our time, but everything was just… alright. Very hard to justify the price. April is the end of the dry season, and everything was visibly brown and dry. This was the biggest disappointment of the trip — but it was our fault, not the resort’s. All the fancy, beautiful foliage you see online is from a very select time of year. We upgraded to a treetop villa, which was absolutely worth it for a family of three. The standard rooms are stacked on top of one another in very cheap-looking buildings — almost like a Motel 8 in the woods. The layout of our treetop villa was great, but the décor left a lot to be desired. Very plain — and not in a minimalist way… just plain and boring. Blank walls, empty couches, and amenities like coffee, tea, and water were sparse. Most of the buildings had the same kind of feel — cheap and out of place. I think another reviewer mentioned they resembled the Disney Polynesian Resort, which I could kind of see… but less intricate, maybe? Not sure. The main building really stuck out. Everything was very clean and well maintained. The staff was kind and helpful. The food at the restaurants stood out as much better than most resorts. We enjoyed all of our meals and especially liked the casual fusion menu at Añejo. Service in the restaurants was friendly, but very unpolished. Basic table maintenance didn’t exist. Orders were forgotten often, dishes were missing, long delays, etc. The highlight of the trip was the new Papagayo Park. Complete with water slides, a splash pad, obstacle course, mini zipline, ice cream, and so much more, it made for a great morning activity. We did not enjoy the beaches, and the pools were fine. It was hard writing this review — because the more I think about the trip, the lower I want to score the resort. But at the same time, we really did have a blast, even if it doesn’t sound like it. That’s why traveling with your loved ones is so important… they really make the trip, not the destination.

Our stay at Four Seasons Resort Peninsula Papagayo was absolutely unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, the service was warm, personalized, and truly five-star in every way. The resort itself is stunning, lush jungle views, breathtaking ocean scenery, incredible wildlife, and some of the most beautiful sunsets we’ve ever seen. The rooms were luxurious, spotless, and perfectly designed for both relaxation and family comfort. Every staff member went above and beyond to make our stay special, and you can genuinely feel the level of care and hospitality throughout the property. The beaches were peaceful and swimmable, the pools were amazing for the kids, and the food across the resort was excellent. We especially loved how the resort blends luxury with the natural beauty of Costa Rica, waking up to monkeys in the trees and ending the day watching the sunset over the ocean felt magical. If you’re looking for a luxury family getaway in Costa Rica that truly delivers on service, experience, and beauty, Four Seasons Papagayo is worth every penny.
