Reviews for Four Seasons Hotel Guangzhou

Nice hotel & rooms, poor service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Nice hotel, extreme luxury. Rooms start at floor 72, mine was on 95. Rooms are not the issue here - I just was put off by the staff. Rates at check in were not correct with original emails, and was charged a MUCH higher rate plus no breakfast for this incorrect rate. I assumed since it was the Four Seasons it wouldn’t be an issue to fix, my name was on the Embassy of Canada list after all. I just went downstairs to the Peets around the corner while the rest of my party ate breakfast in the restaurant. Well turns out I assumed wrong and they didn’t correct anything. I let them know in their survey they sent when I got back and they eventually apologized after I was home. They offered complimentary access to the top floor executive lounge on my next visit (hmmmmm, not sure the next time I will be in Guangzhou? Thanks but no-thanks) NEVER again a Four Seasons. I feel bad for my employer as I expense this and it’s twice as much as my colleagues that were on the same trip and I had to add breakfast to my expense report.

Amazing View and Exceptional Services

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

The hotel ambiance is strikingly beautiful especially the river view! Icy, Kit, and Jenny at the reception were exceptionally courteous and helpful. Carmen Guang, the duty manager, truly went above and beyond to ensure we were well taken care of—her service was both exceptional and deeply personal. The rooms (we had four) are beautifully appointed, spacious, and extremely comfortable. This is truly a five-star hotel offering outstanding service at every level.

It was okay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

The last time I stayed at Four Seasons in Guangzhou was 8 years ago with my family. I had no interest in luxury hotels back then and could not remember a single thing about my stay. Given the recent refurbishment in some of the guest rooms, I thought I'd give it another try. It was unfortunate that, now that my definition of what a luxury hotel should be has become much clearer, my experience at the Four Seasons Guangzhou paled in comparison. It was not bad by any means, it was just... not good enough. I stayed at the refurbished Tower View room with a window-side bathtub. Coming in at around 700 USD per night, this is definitely not cheap, especially for Guangzhou, so naturally my expectation is pegged at that level. The room definitely felt a lot younger compared to before - it looked somewhat like a business hotel in the past, but the new design incorporated some bold colors, like the newly fitted olive green panels that complemented the purplish-red marble that instantly made the room more sophisticated. The annoying pillars that were part of the building structure were still there, but apart from that, we really had no complaints. The view of the Canton Tower from the bathtub was spectacular, although the windows could definitely use a cleaning. The 70th-floor lobby was magnificent, but it was objectively not a good experience for hotel guests. I always hated high-rise hotels that require a transfer of lifts to reach the guest rooms, and Four Seasons Guangzhou took this to the extreme. The concierge won't help with food deliveries, so if you'd like to order takeout at this hotel, be prepared to waste at least 15 minutes going up and down. The hotel also had virtually no common areas for the guests, and I wasn't sure if it was because of the New Year public holidays, but the lobby and lobby bar were packed with external visitors taking photos. It was so crowded that sometimes we had to wait for the next lift just to go up from the ground floor. There was absolutely no privacy for hotel guests. The Four Seasons service was there, and most staff members were lovely. The concierge team gave us a rose and wished us a happy New Year, and meticulously arranged the courier service for us for an outgoing parcel. The front desk would proactively come up to us and ask if we needed help. There were however, some exchanges that were not so great, like the one porter who offered zero help when I asked for directions, 2 unanswered calls to the concierge desk when we needed help, and a knock at 5 PM asking if we needed turndown service after we just checked in, which was a bit puzzling. Breakfast was honestly quite a mess. People were not standing in queues, and it was really difficult to gauge how many tables were in front of us. The buffet spread did not look appetizing, and the à la carte wonton noodles were perhaps worse than those of a street vendor. Service was warm but a bit unpolished - our oat milk iced latte became hot latte with normal milk, and staff asking if they could remove our plates when there were clearly unfinished food on them. The most confusing part was a manager from the Chinese restaurant downstairs coming to our table and asking if we would like to try their shrimp dumplings. I asked what the difference was between this and the buffet shrimp dumplings, a simple and predictable question, and she was clearly caught offguard. I'm not sure if it was due to the New Year's holidays, but our experience frankly did not justify the price tag. Unless you have a specific desire to have a Canton Tower view, I would recommend just getting the base room if you'd like to stay here.

Canton tower view room

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

We had a lovely stay in the hotel .we booked the canton tower view room which was lovely, spacious and renovated .The bathroom is well decorated with full amenities. The location is superb and quiet .The receptionists were friendly and the concierge were helpful. The only thing that I didn’t like that you take a lift to the reception which is on the 67 floor then you have to take another lift to go the rooms .

Disappointing Stay Experience – Room Issues

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

Just sharing my disappointment regarding my recent stay, my first experience at Four Seasons Guangzhou, which I had looked forward to as a restful 4-day break after a long journey. Unfortunately, the experience has not met expectations. As we approach our final night, several room issues. The bidet spray button was not functioning and the bathroom sliding door could not be locked and both basic facilities that should be in proper working condition, especially in a five-star hotel. The manager came to inspect the issue, and maintenance managed to fix the bidet. While I appreciate the eventual response. Proper room maintenance should be a priority to ensure guests experience the level of comfort and quality Four Seasons is known for. I hope this feedback will be taken seriously to improve future guest experiences.
