We recently stayed at the Hyatt-Maui Resort and were truly impressed by the beauty of the campus. The lush landscaping, ocean views, and overall atmosphere made it a perfect place to relax and unwind. The resort offers a peaceful, tropical escape with plenty of amenities and scenic spots to enjoy. However, one important detail caught us off guard: the rooms do not have air conditioning. This was not clearly communicated during the booking process, and it made our stay less comfortable than expected, especially during warmer parts of the day. While I understand that some resorts in Hawaii rely on natural ventilation, I would have appreciated a clearer notice from Hyatt about this. Going forward, I’ll be sure to double-check the list of amenities for air conditioning when booking. Overall, the resort is stunning and has a lot to offer, but I recommend future guests confirm room features ahead of time to ensure a fully comfortable stay.

This place is so relaxing. We stayed 2 nights and would have loved to stay more. It is older but not run down. We stayed in an ocean view bungalow and I would recommend to stay in the bungalows if you can!

Staying at the Hāna Maui Resort was truly the highlight of our honeymoon. The property is absolutely stunning — peaceful, lush, and surrounded by the natural beauty of East Maui. It felt like a serene escape from the rest of the island, and we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful or meaningful place to stay. The resort staff was phenomenal — warm, kind, and eager to share stories about the local history and culture. We learned more from speaking with them than we did using the Shaka app while driving the Road to Hāna. If you’re considering making the trip out here, staying at this resort is a must. We’re already recommending it to all our friends and family and plan to come back ourselves. The restaurant food was outstanding, especially breakfast, which came with excellent service and warm hospitality. Dinner service was a bit less friendly in tone, but still professional and enjoyable. That said, I want to be transparent about one incident that made me feel uncomfortable during our stay. On a Sunday afternoon, I was relaxing alone by the pool while my husband was resting in our villa. A group of locals were enjoying the pool — which we fully support, as it’s wonderful to see the community enjoying this beautiful property. However, I overheard a conversation between a man and woman in the group that quickly turned uncomfortable. After some back-and-forth, the man gestured toward me and made a comment about a “bougie bitch,” followed by both of them complaining about the “type of people” who stay at the resort. One of them said something along the lines of, “It’s just a bunch of haoles here anyway.” As a guest simply keeping to myself and trying to enjoy my time, this felt incredibly disrespectful and disheartening. I chose not to confront them and ended up leaving the pool area — and unfortunately did not return for the rest of our stay. I also didn’t bring it to staff out of concern, as I overheard one of the children in the group say they had a family member who worked at the resort, and I didn’t want to create an uncomfortable situation for anyone involved. This resort was a splurge for us — something we saved for to make our honeymoon truly special — and while we absolutely loved our time here, that moment did put a damper on part of our experience. Still, we can’t say enough good things about the property itself, the resort staff, and the sense of place this location holds. The pool, amenities, spa, and villas were top-tier, and we would absolutely come back again — with the hope that all guests, local or visiting, can enjoy the space with mutual respect. Mahalo for the unforgettable memories.

High points: Beautiful grounds, chairs along the rocky shoreline to watch sunrise, a fabulous yoga instructor, very helpful and friendly staff, private and clean cottages.

We splurged on the ocean front room with a private hot tub. Pro-tip, you will only see this room option if you put in 2 guests, but they allow a 3rd in a roll-away bed, which is where our teenaged daughter slept (plenty of room for all of us). Everything was wonderful when it wasn't raining, making our outdoor chaise soaking wet, which is where we wanted to be 100% of the time. But the ocean was so peaceful and seeing the stars with the moon rise, as well as the sun rise over the Pacific were amazing. Getting there was not for the faint of heart. Almost had a fruit knock one of us out when it hit our windshield (we put the top of our convertible up after that). And the locals drive too fast to be safe. But it's worth it, just be sure to insure your rental car! I recommend stopping and hiking Twin Falls and going to the Black Sands Beach (need reservation for the latter and it's very close to the hotel). We are vegetarian and there were plenty of food options for us at the resort, not so much at the local food trucks. The coffee truck was great, though, and the espresso coffee machines in the room were appreciated. The resort will chauffeur you around in golf carts to the restaurants whenever needed, which was fun. All in all, had a lovely stay! They should, however, lower their prices to entice more visitors. Barely anyone was there, which was nice for us, but I felt it was once-in-a-lifetime experience at those prices.
