Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi was first opened at the turn of the 20th century by two private French investors. Standing the test of time, the hotel has been recognized as Hanoi’s legendary landmark for its contribution to the history and heritage of city. Ever since 1901, the Hotel Metropole Hanoi has a long tradition as a luxury venue for prestigious events and a popular rendezvous for business and leisure travelers. We have the honour to welcome such famous playwrights, actors, ambassadors and heads of state from all over the world as Charlie Chaplin, Graham Greene, Somerset Maugham.

The impeccable welcome set the scene for a great stay, smart liveried chaps dealt so promptly and politely. We had booked a suite and were given the Somerset Maugham room (room 125). It was just so delightfully furnished. A sitting room, with a small table for meals (or in our case Scrabble) and a desk which was useful as I had a bit of work to do. The bedroom had a 4 poster (sort of) bed. Super comfy. Good bathroom too with a tub and separate shower. Outside, the suite had its own private garden! The weather wasn’t up to much so it wasn’t used. Room service was something else. We came back one morning to find 3 ladies going through the room! We had access to Club Millesime. This is totally wonderful. 2 hours each evening when we took advantage of the free drinks and substantial nibbles (which was enough for dinner). Mrs W piled through the Drappier champagne on offer, and I had wine. This was also our location choice for breakfast. Always delicious. So that’s it. We couldn’t fault it - literally nothing. A rarity. Bravo Metropole!

Wonderful and historic hotel but at the end of the day what made it special was the attentive eyes of the staff . The bellboy noticed that the wheel on my luggage was broken and immediately took care to get it fixed . Also my glasses broke and sure enough the concierge got me to a credible optometrist and fixed without delay All around all the staff was great . At the end of the day it’s these small and important things that make or break a hotel . Would definitely recommend and return

From the moment we walked into this beautiful hotel we knew it was special. It is gorgeous and in a great location. Big rooms with delicious breakfast and the friendliest staff. We were there for the Christmas light switch on and it’s incredible. Highly recommended

We ended a 21 day trip to Vietnam and Cambodia with a 3-day stay at the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi after enjoying a 1-night stay in the Ho Chi Minh location and during which time we were bowled over by the beautifully designed rooms, the scrumptious dinner, fully equipped gym and the out-of-this-world buffet breakfast. And, the service was impeccable. The Hanoi hotel is another level altogether: it's in an upscale area with high end shops giving a different perspective than the Old Quarter but still vibrant. The hotel is luxuriously grand, and has old world charm evoking its French heritage. The rooms have every feature you want and then some such as the ability to control the temperature with a wave of your hand over the panels, and a remote controlled bidet. The gym has the latest equipment and a sauna and steam room, too. The staff was consistently professional, polished and unfailingly courteous and helpful. One example: after returning from an excursion, one of the waiters held our lounge chairs by the pool, and unprompted, we were treated to fresh water with lime and snacks multiple times. We recommend taking advantage of the hotel tour to hear about the history of the hotel from it's opening in 1901 to its storied celebrity guest list through the years to the underground bomb shelter used between 1964 and 1973 during the Vietnam War.

Have stayed at other Sofitel Legend Hotels and the Metropole is one I will not soon forget. Recently spent 2 amazing nights in the Heritage Wing. From the moment I arrived to the moment I had to unfortunately check out everything was absolutely perfect. My room was beautifully decorated in a decor style appropriate with the history of the hotel. The bathroom was well appointed and spacious. The breakfast buffet included everything you could possibly want; to fuel you for a full day of sightseeing in Hanoi and even more. Do not miss signing up for a tour of the hotel's bomb shelter, utilized by Joan Baez during the 1972 Christmas bombing of Hanoi. I unfortunately do not remember the names of each staff member with whom I engaged with but just know there is nothing they are not willing to do to make your stay a lifetime memory. Thank you Sofitel Legend Metrople for making my time in Hanoi unforgettable.
