Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi was first opened at the turn of the 20th century by two private French investors. Standing the test of time, the hotel has been recognized as Hanoi’s legendary landmark for its contribution to the history and heritage of city. Ever since 1901, the Hotel Metropole Hanoi has a long tradition as a luxury venue for prestigious events and a popular rendezvous for business and leisure travelers. We have the honour to welcome such famous playwrights, actors, ambassadors and heads of state from all over the world as Charlie Chaplin, Graham Greene, Somerset Maugham.

We initially had a single night booking before what was meant to be a two night Lan Ha Bay Cruise. Given major issues with our cruise operator (Orchid Cruise Line) we left the cruise after one night and returned to Metropole staying two nights out of three. The decision to return to Metropole was easy. Their concierge team on the first night of our stay went above an beyond in assisting us to make contact with the cruise operator. This was all happening at about 11pm. I was very grateful Metropole could get the cruise line responding to me (which I was not successful in achieving despite having tried since 2pm). My sincere thanks to Zoey who assisted that first night and then warmly greeted us on our return after the cruise debacle! As Accor Platinum members, despite booking (and expecting) the entry level room we were very grateful to receive an upgrade to a level 7 garden view room. It was a very nice touch that the Metropole placed us in that room again on our second stay. The Club (accessible due to our status) was very pleasant. The afternoon tea and evening canapés were generous and delicious. Pommery champagne was offered as a welcome drink and during evening cocktail hours as were many other wines and other drinks. To be honest I think you could easily survive on eating at the club alone. We had one breakfast in Le Club Bar and one in the Club only Le Beauliue. We actually preferred the atmosphere in Le Club Bar given the lovely gardens surrounding the conservatory area, but both offered great food. Don't forget the egg coffee has a long history with the Sofitel, well worth ordering one here! We had one dinner in Spice Garden. We made the mistake of ordering the Tasting Menu, I say mistake as the amount of food was very generous and I was very full! This is not a cheap restaurant, but it was very delicious. We had one visit to Bamboo Bar which was very pleasant with excellent customer service and interesting drinks. The decor and fans were very atmospheric. The room is extremely clean, very comfortable and with lots of included amenities. The only downside was the very average hairdryer. I loved the fact I could open the windows and look out over the gardens (which are an oasis in Hanoi). The gym is admittedly a little tired BUT all of the equipment worked, it was clean and there were plenty of towels and water on offer. It was far from the worse gym I have come across but I suspect new machines might be on the agenda soon. Finally my thanks to the doormen (and I apologise for not noting their names) who stored my luggage intending to transfer it to Capella after two nights BUT who also recognised us when we returned early, hurried the luggage to our room and then assisted us with the (very short) walk to Capella the following day. I prefer the Old Quarter personally BUT that might be because I am a tourist. While the location of Sofitel is definitely not bad, there is not as much to see an do immediately outside as Old Quarter. Also given it is so nice in the hotel it is hard to leave!

Fantastic stay! Central location with easy walking distance to Hoan Kiem Lake, Old Hanoi and shopping. Use the Grab app (similar to Uber) to get around to visit other attractions. Everyone at the hotel was very friendly, extremely helpful and professional. Services were EXCELLENT...Big shout out to RYAN plus Minh, Ann, Spring, Thao and Giang.

What a fabulous hotel. The location, the staff, the building itself, the service, I couldn’t fault any of it. The hotel has a wonderful 1920’s feel to it. The breakfasts were out of this world. The staff were always so helpful and attentive. Genuinely one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Superb.

The Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi has long been one of my favorite hotels in the world. I first stayed here 13 years ago and had always hoped to return, so it was a great pleasure to spend an entire week at the Metropole on my recent visit to Hanoi. By the end of the stay, it genuinely felt like a second home. There is something incredibly transporting about this hotel. The historic architecture and public spaces are extraordinarily beautiful, with a sense of elegance and occasion that is increasingly rare. I especially loved having breakfast in Le Club Bar, particularly in the sunroom, and the Bamboo Bar remains one of my favorite places to relax. No matter how many times I walked through the hotel, there was always some detail to admire. At the same time, the Metropole never feels stuck in the past. The hotel has been beautifully updated, and my room combined classic design details with thoroughly modern amenities — everything from a Toto washlet to excellent TV and HDMI connectivity, which was especially useful when I needed to work on business presentations. I was in Hanoi on an extremely busy professional schedule, and I was especially grateful for the way the staff looked after me throughout the week. Their attentiveness made a demanding trip considerably more comfortable. I would particularly like to recognize Tuan, a captain in Le Club Bar. On mornings when I was up early and preparing for a full day, he took special care to make sure I was well looked after and properly fortified before heading out. That kind of thoughtful, personal attention makes an enormous difference, and it is something I will remember. The concierge team was also excellent, offering terrific dining recommendations and coordinating reservations with great efficiency. And the bell staff deserve special mention as well: always enthusiastic, helpful, and somehow managing to carry out even the simplest duties with style. I also treated myself to a 90-minute massage at the spa, and it was genuinely one of the best massages I have ever had. After several very full days, it was exactly what I needed — deeply relaxing, expertly done, and another highlight of my stay. There may be no grander address in Hanoi. Every time I approached the Metropole, whether in daylight or illuminated at night, I found myself admiring it all over again. In the middle of such a vibrant and energetic city, it feels like an oasis — elegant, gracious, and remarkably welcoming. Returning after 13 years was every bit as special as I had hoped. I will not wait so long before coming back again.
