Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi was first opened at the turn of the 20th century by two private French investors. Standing the test of time, the hotel has been recognized as Hanoi’s legendary landmark for its contribution to the history and heritage of city. Ever since 1901, the Hotel Metropole Hanoi has a long tradition as a luxury venue for prestigious events and a popular rendezvous for business and leisure travelers. We have the honour to welcome such famous playwrights, actors, ambassadors and heads of state from all over the world as Charlie Chaplin, Graham Greene, Somerset Maugham.

We spent two nights at the Metropole in the year it celebrates its 125th anniversary. It rightfully deserves its legendary status. We received a complimentary upgrade to the Graham Greene Suite in the Heritage wing - which is simply spectacular. The service from staff across the board was outstanding. Metropole benefits give you access to a luxurious afternoon tea and also evening cocktails experience, both of which we enjoyed very much. We had a late flight to catch and the team offered us a late check out, making use of a different room. Really this is a hotel that goes above and beyond. A heartfelt thanks to the whole team - until next time!

What a wonderful introduction to Vietnam! This hotel is an amazing in every way! First and foremost — the service is impeccable! The attention to detail and concern and anticipation of our needs was unparralled. Two examples: when we checked out today they had a breakfast basket waiting for us because they knew we were checking out early. We did not ask them — they just did this! Another example — yesterday, they reminded us of our benefits for afternoon tea and drinks! Which we had not previously realized…. Anything we asked they immediately responded to. And we ask them for all kinds of things - from where to buy silk to what coffee to purchase and where. Regarding the food, the quality is also excellent and plentiful and tasty. Especially their coffee...Their fine French restaurant a real treat... AND their Charley Chaplin cocktail was amazing... I had so many .. About the room -- we wisely booked one of their metropole suites. So worth the money! it was ENORMOUS - we loved the space and especially the large bathroom AND a second FULL bathroom. The amenities were fantastic. The AC works extremely well (very important). Housekeeping is also excellent. The hotel itself is a historical site and we very much enjoyed the atmosphere and history. I recommend not to miss the tour of the bomb shelters — although I warn you that it is intense. Basically - they get everything right… Not a single misstep in our 5 nights and 6 days here!! Our only regret is that we did not book our tours etc via them (we booked with a private agent). I would recommend that you book with their concierge. Some tips about Hanoi - it is HOT (soooo HOT) so pace yourself…. Outside of Hanoi proper, we visited Nam Bing (which was just so-so) and Ha long Ba (amazing…). We wisely booked a private boat cruise for Ha Long Bay. It was much better than the large groups, although the boat itself was not as comfortable. Overall - if you are visiting Hanoi - you cannot go wrong to stay in the Metropole and I would suggest that you benefit from this excellent hotel as much as possible! You will not be disappointed.

Everyone vaguely familiar with the Sofitel Legend Metrople is aware of it's history steeped luxury. Moving from the hustle and bustle of Hanoi city into the lobby of the Metropole is akin to time travel to a bygone era. It is of course a matter of taste but I am tempted to say that the experience is as close to perfection as it can get. But what made our stay particularly legendary is the very friendly and attentive staff. The very warm welcome of Sam at the Club Bar made us feel at home right away. Giang at the Spice Garden helped us discover and appreciate some of the Vietnamese delicacies served at the breakfast buffet and gave us some very helpful tips for our day in the city. And finally we need to mention Ngan operating behind the scene as the wonderful barista at the Spice Garden. The egg coffee and salted coffee are nothing short of fantastic. Thank you!

This is the second time we’ve staid at the hotel and while the time between visits may have been long, the feeling of being somewhere truly special had not changed.
