A Sonoma Valley Gem

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

A surprisingly beautiful retreat in the Sonoma Valley. Close to downtown Healdsburg and all the Sonoma Valley has to offer, this chic and sophisticated destination is cozy and comfortable with beautiful views of the valley from its hillside perch. Perfect for a couples getaway or girls trip. Highly recommend.

We spent 2 nights at the Madrona. We loved the property and the rooms are beautiful. The heated floors in the bathrooms are a wonderful touch. We also got dropped off in town for dinner. Literally a 5 min drive. We had dinner at the restaurant too which we loved! Will def be back!

Great Experience. Beautiful place and the staff was awesome.

We live locally but had heard good things about the place so I decided to surprise my wife for a quick birthday getaway. It's a beautiful old Victorian Manor that had been completely restored by new owners to it's former glory. I can't imagine what it took just to paint all that detail work. Beautiful grounds to explore too. We had a balcony room overlooking the valley and vineyards. The room was very spacious with a fireplace and period decor. Could have used a TV for my wife but the quite is nice sometimes. Downstairs was the small bar and a great sitting area inside, if you don't want to be on the large front porch area outside, while enjoying a glass of wine or a cocktail. Food was 5 star, and it would be worth coming for the food alone. Actually I believe they were recently awarded Michelin Star for the restaurant. And finally the staff . To a person beyond friendly and professional. They treat you like the big shot guest you wish you were! Not cheap but well worth the price.

Over the top

We live our Madrona staycations. The bar is lovely and serves amazing, unique cocktails, the restaurant is one of the under appreciated in the Northbay…it should get much more attention, and the staff are all knowledgeable and helpful. We look forward to coming back sooner rather than later.

Get your act together, and soon!

After reading the wonderful reviews, we had been looking forward to our stay. We have stayed at Farmhouse Inn in Forestville and the Relais and Chateau hotel in Healdsburg and are familiar with the Russian River Valley and the wines. Unfortunately, the hotel physical plant failed badly, although the service was quite good and even above the usual call of duty. The bungalow heating was stuck in the on position and the young man who showed us the room and how things worked discovered that the remote control for the heater was not responsive. After dinner, the temperature in the room reached into the mid-80's with the heater blasting away, and nothing had been done because the engineer had left for the day. Eventually someone was able to cut the power to the heating unit. The bedroom was frigid as a result but the fireplace kept the front room warm. The shower control was difficult. None of the draperies worked without considerable effort. The drapery ropes were untethered when they should have been secured to the wall. There was no lighting on the slick stairs and deck at night, making these somewhat dangerous and slippery to navigate in the pitch dark. The response by the front desk was for us to come to check-in to get a flashlight. (??) None of these issues was addressed during our 2-night stay, except that the following day at midday after the tropical blast evening we received a text that the heater had been repaired (we left early for a day out). As for the room decor, the couch was dated and very uncomfortable and the table and sofa did not match. It was very spartan and not inviting. I want to emphasize that the front-office staff was attentive and tried to help. The restaurant was nice and eventually coffee was delivered in the morning due to short staffing over the holiday. This is understandable. The condition of the room and the overall safety for a room charging north of $1000/night on the other hand is difficult to understand. This needs attention, and if I were scoring the stay it would have been at best 3/10. A top ranked hotel should do better. We will not return for a redux.
