Reviews for Hotel Ranga

Great SLH experience to start a ring road tour.

Hotel Ranga was one of the top hotels we stayed in on our 8 day self-guided ring road tour of Iceland, all the more special because it was the first. The location is great if you are heading counterclockwise on the ring road after seeing the golden circle sights. The restaurant was excellent. The property is peaceful, sitting on an expanse of tundra along the Ranga river. My only complaint is that the room was too warm, but that turns out not to be a differentiating factor as ALL (but one) of our hotels had this problem. No AC in Iceland and the buildings retain heat.

Beautiful, quiet lodge in the country.

The hotel is located in the country, on a river with lots of birds nearby. There are two small towns within 5-10 minute drive. Both have restaurants, grocery stores, gas ,etc. The staff was wonderful, very helpful to plan activities, etc. The room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. Also, three outdoor hot tubs. And a complementary whiskey tasting. Would definitely stay again.

Iceland in the fall

What an incredible hotel to stay at while visiting Iceland’s south coast. It is conveniently located for visiting all of the beauty the south coast offers while still being secluded and ideally placed to catch the northern lights. We stayed in the Iceland master suite which was absolutely gorgeous. Huge windows overlooking outside, a giant soaker tub and a fun portion of the room that spun 360 degrees to change your view without even having to get up! The restaurant was also fantastic but our favorite part of this hotel was the observatory. They had an astronomer on sight who showed us Jupiter and Saturn. The telescope was so strong we could see the actual rings of Saturn! It was a special experience I’ll never forget. Also note worthy is that they have thick snowsuits to throw on over your clothes to visit the observatory or catch the northern lights in the middle of the night comfortably. They were very useful at that time of the year. All in all this hotel lives up to what everyone says! It’s amazing

A very special place.

Stayed for four nights to see the northern lights. They have a notification system that calls the room when the lights are visible. What really stood out was the staff. Genuine hospitality. Highly recommend.

Great place to see the Northern Lights!

We stayed at Hotel Ranga for 3 nights in room 30. They graciously gave us a lovely bottle of Rioja on arrival - thank you! With the amount that wine costs in Iceland it was a very nice gesture. The room was a good size, we did have the trundle bed pulled down so I think there would of been more space if that was closed. The beds were comfortable. It did get very hot in the room for sleeping so when it wasn't windy we did crack the door for a bit. There was also a portable fan that could be used. The room was clean but the bathroom could probably use with a bit of a refresh, it great size, the fixtures were a bit on the older side. There were lots of hooks in the bathroom and outside. Honestly, you can never have enough especially in the winter! We got room service the first evening and the Aurora wake up call. The burger, chicken salad and ham & cheese were all delicious. We were all exhausted from a wedding the previous night but at around 11pm we got the call, opened the door and there they were! I am still upset that I didn't walk over to the observatory because the other nights they didn't appear and I think it was closed. During the aurora wake-up the hallways were busy and a bit noisy, but they did give ear plugs if you didn't want to be woken up. They also had warm coveralls you could wear. The overall vibe was super chill, the bar was fully stocked with everything you could think of, the restaurant was good, we ate there one night. We also did an order from the bar/pub one night. There is an upstairs lounge and 2 game rooms to use. The hot tubs are also in need of a refresh. There are only 3 of them so you had to time it so you could fit into one. We had 1 hot tub close to our room but every time we went to use it there were people in it. When they do a renovation they should probably add a hot tub for every few rooms or 1 large hot pool. I think a sauna/spa after all the outdoor activities it would do very well here. It was very easy to drive to and close to Hella which had a supermarket. When we come back to Iceland we would certainly visit again.
