Reviews for Hotel Ranga

A very special place.

Stayed for four nights to see the northern lights. They have a notification system that calls the room when the lights are visible. What really stood out was the staff. Genuine hospitality. Highly recommend.

Great place to see the Northern Lights!

We stayed at Hotel Ranga for 3 nights in room 30. They graciously gave us a lovely bottle of Rioja on arrival - thank you! With the amount that wine costs in Iceland it was a very nice gesture. The room was a good size, we did have the trundle bed pulled down so I think there would of been more space if that was closed. The beds were comfortable. It did get very hot in the room for sleeping so when it wasn't windy we did crack the door for a bit. There was also a portable fan that could be used. The room was clean but the bathroom could probably use with a bit of a refresh, it great size, the fixtures were a bit on the older side. There were lots of hooks in the bathroom and outside. Honestly, you can never have enough especially in the winter! We got room service the first evening and the Aurora wake up call. The burger, chicken salad and ham & cheese were all delicious. We were all exhausted from a wedding the previous night but at around 11pm we got the call, opened the door and there they were! I am still upset that I didn't walk over to the observatory because the other nights they didn't appear and I think it was closed. During the aurora wake-up the hallways were busy and a bit noisy, but they did give ear plugs if you didn't want to be woken up. They also had warm coveralls you could wear. The overall vibe was super chill, the bar was fully stocked with everything you could think of, the restaurant was good, we ate there one night. We also did an order from the bar/pub one night. There is an upstairs lounge and 2 game rooms to use. The hot tubs are also in need of a refresh. There are only 3 of them so you had to time it so you could fit into one. We had 1 hot tub close to our room but every time we went to use it there were people in it. When they do a renovation they should probably add a hot tub for every few rooms or 1 large hot pool. I think a sauna/spa after all the outdoor activities it would do very well here. It was very easy to drive to and close to Hella which had a supermarket. When we come back to Iceland we would certainly visit again.

Lovely stay in Hotel Ranga

Hotel Rangá is a wonderful base for exploring South Iceland, and our stay was excellent in almost every way. The location is superb, and the rooms are clean, comfortable, and well-appointed. Breakfast impresses with a generous selection, including a hot cooked option to set you up for a day of adventure. Dinner is a real highlight — the lamb and salmon were both outstanding, showcasing the very best of Icelandic produce. The hot tub is an excellent idea and I loved it. We were even treated to a brief but magical glimpse of the Northern Lights. The one small note is that the front desk staff could be a touch warmer - a minor thing, but worth mentioning. That aside, Hotel Rangá delivers an exceptional Icelandic experience and we would highly recommend it.

Cozy spot

Cozy little place to see the Northern Lights . Restaurant is ok , they need more options. Room is small and comfortable, bed uncomfortable . Nice enough staff , I don’t consider it luxury . Very expensive ! Never saw an astronomer or the observatory.

Excellent stay

Beautiful spot to stay on the Golden Circle. It's pretty famous, and a few big American reality TV shows have filmed there, including the Kardashians. Great staff, and good breakfast in their restaurant. The rooms are simple, and expensive, but the area is beautiful. We had a room in the back overlooking a small, winding river, and if you're from the US it felt very much like you're in Wyoming. The best part is the Northern Lights. Because it was cloudy during most of our four days, as it usually is in Iceland, we only saw the lights on the first night, and it wasn't spectacular. To be honest I saw it better in Pennsylvania in the US a year earlier, and we never get to see it there. But the experience was still fun. Around 10 PM on our first night, our phone rang for our alert and we quickly ran down the long hallway to the front parking lot. And you could hear the phones ringing all the way down the hall, and people were coming out of their doors in their coats. Half the people in the hotel were standing in the dark in the parking lot, and the hotel made great hot chocolate and put a big vat of it in the lobby. But, at least at the time, the alert system was spotty, and we continually wonder if it failed to work the second day because we didn't get an alert. They promote having an astronomer on site, but in our four days he was never there.
