Hotel Ranga

Located in the South, it is strategically located for a great base for experiencing the Golden Circle and the South by day while relaxing with top accommodation, service, food, and drink by night. Booking/Coordination. Booked directly through their website providing the best rate and cancellation terms for our visit. I did some pre-arrival coordination via e-mail and they were always very responsive. Check-in. Arriving to Iceland on the red-eye we drove directly to the hotel and arrived about 1100AM to a quiet hotel. Although the room was not yet ready they have a very quiet lounge with plenty of comfortable chairs and couches to “relax” in while waiting for the room to be ready for us. We enjoyed a light lunch and by about 1PM our room was ready allowing an early check-in (a nice perk given the red-eye). The staff took our bags to our room and gave us a run-down of the hotel facilities and suite. Room. We booked a Master Suite and I had requested the “Antarctica Suite” which fortunately accommodated. Our choice was based on windows and views less decor. The suite did not disappoint at all. Surrounded by large windows with very pretty (semi-private) view of the property to include the river in the back and pasture with plenty of cows wandering by to say hello. Large balconies were nice however a bit chilly in September for us to enjoy. The Antarctica theme was well thought out and executed well and generally well maintained (two of the pictures are getting faded and the print starting to wrinkle in the frame). The bed was luxury quality for comfort and we really enjoyed the sitting area. Bathroom size was excellent although the space-saving shower doors tended to leak a lot causing some pooling but during turn-down they did a beautiful job cleaning that up so was a non-issue. Although a bit of a distance from bathroom to closet, the space was ample. Finally, loved the complimentary mini-bar with nicely restocked daily. Facilities. Starting with eight complimentary EV chargers, even when busy if you rent an EV, you can charge it. They have two game-rooms with pool table and assorted board games, etc. Three hot-tubs behind the buildings were a nice place to recuperate after a day of touring, set to a perfect temperature but without lighting, careful as you get in as steps are not “obvious”. With 100% booking, I would imagine they would become a premium attraction as there are only three of them seating two sets of couples comfortably. As a note, they provide a wake-up call for Northern Lights and no question the location is perfect for it. For us……location was perfect but conditions were not so no luck. Dining. One of the highlights of Ranga is their restaurant with a terrific windowed dining room with views of the area and river and tactically avoiding seeing the highway. They have a solid menu providing plenty for all but I would say you will likely start repeating choices if you stay longer than three nights. A varied and competitive price wine-list is another plus and of the four hotels we enjoyed during our trip Ranga is where we had our top bottle of wine. The bar was just outside the dining room with additional lounge upstairs to enjoy your cocktail. Great list of classic and some original cocktail options. Breakfast buffet is nice with a good spread and some a la carte options. Staff. A critical component, Hotel Ranga has a solid staff, especially in restaurant and bar. They not only have the quantity but the quality of folks, many Eastern European, Poland and Romania, they are terrific at their jobs and enjoy what they are doing. Their service skills and enthusiasm galvanized our positive impression of Hotel Ranga. A special mention to Patryk who stood out among a field of experts, making our last evening memorable. Tips. As is true in Iceland certainly they not expected and not even an option with no tip-lines. At Hotel Ranga, all cash tips given are pooled and go to “charity”. We enjoyed four high-end hotels during this stay in Iceland and Hotel Ranga stood-out for its beautiful suite, comfortable bed, and wonderfully staffed and tasty restaurant. Thanks to all the men and woman of Hotel Ranga, you made a memorable experience for us. We will be back!

Lovely hotel! Unique log cabin design. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Room service is available 24/7 which was a great amenity. Breakfast was wonderful and had a huge selection. No AC which was expected, but my room included a tall floor fan which was helpful (since the windows only opened slightly). Smart TVs also so you can log into Netflix if you are like me and just needed a night of rest after a busy day! They also offer a Northern Lights wake up call.

A comfortable and beautiful rest with excellent hospitality. We only stayed one night but wish we could have stayed longer! The staff were professional yet friendly, the food and drinks were excellent.

Our favourite hotel in Iceland, location, service and comfort cannot be faulted. We stopped here on our self drive tour of the south of the country on our way to Glacier Lagoon. Food quality was excellent.

The service is what makes this hotel great. Otherwise, it probably wouldn’t be worth it. More rustic than expected.
