This hotel ideal for viewing the Northern Lights and taking in the beautiful nature of the arctic, such as Glacier Lagoon or Mount Hekla Volcano. Hotel Ranga also offers guests a unique fine dining experience as well, with culinary twists on traditionally Icelandic dishes. There is an on-site observatory and from September to April, a local astronomer guides guests through a tour of the dazzling night sky.

We had high hopes for Hotel Ranga and were sorely disappointed. We stay in many SLH properties in various counties and have always had excellent stays. From the initial check in, we were met with a very meh welcome. The "deluxe" room was very outdated with the bedding and furnishings. We had a king bed but a twin down comforter under the black/brown 70's style bedspread. I requested another down comforter be delivered at the front desk as my husband and I couldn't both get under the covers - he sucked it up and wrapped in the 70's bedspread. They never delivered the extra down comforter. The 3 hot tubs are worn and old with no working jets. Robert at the bar was by far the nicest most engaging employee. We had clouds both nights so no northern lights either. The food was above average for dinners but ambiance was missing. We spent next few nights at The Edition in Reykjavik, which was night and day to the Hotel Ranga - excellent welcoming, staff, provisions and rooms.

Excellent stay! The food on offer here is exceptional and offers some local produce - breakfast excellent. We saw the northern lights evening and morning!

Amazing service. The hotel is very far from everything but you have it all. Everyone goes out of their way to make it great

The best experience. Warm welcome, service exelant and a lovely staff that wonted to make our stay the best. Food excellent as the service. The Lounge is cosy to sit and have I drink or desert,or both, and chat. The outdoor view, stars and Aurora, if the sky is clear, is wonderful sitting in the hot top. No pollution from lights. It was my wifes birthday (special big birthday offer) and we couldn't be happier. Thanks.

It’s not common to see northern lights in the winter, but we lucked out on being out there for the observatory viewing and then seeing them. The breakfast was great. Hot tubs are inconveniently placed. Beds are joined together to make a larger bed without a mattress topper, which unfortunately is pretty common.
