Great hotel from sunrise to the staff

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

Amazing. What a wonderful hotel. They do it all. Welcome you with open arms and are helpful, accommodating and top notch. The place does not look like much from the outside other than the very cool unique wood couple lounge chairs to watch the Northern lights but inside the decor is perfection from the fun bar stools to the lovely wood paneling to all the decorations. We had the artic suite that was spectacular. Huge 180 views and balconies and such fun decorations. This place even has turn down service. Yay! with chocolates and blind closure for night. I loved that they would call you to see the Northern lights. The chef is very talented and the wait staff so wonderful. The food was so unique tasty and perfect portioned.. The sunrises were so gorgeous!!! All round great experience.

Still waiting for the Wow

Rangá is in the upper end of the price range for hotels in the south and east part of Iceland. It’s a nice, clean place with average size rooms. Located on a good size property backing to a river with good highway access. It’s not really close to any attractions but it puts you an hour or so closer than being in Reykjavik. We also tried the restaurant. Good breakfast, great service, good dinner selection. Downside is cost. Iceland is expensive. Rangá is double that, based on my week long sample. I enjoy finding places and services when I travel that make me say Wow. This was a good establishment just not Wow.

I don’t get the hype….

We stayed 3 nights in the Master Suite, Arctic theme (room #60). Master Suite is their top Category room. The room was big but it certainly needs a remodel. Furniture was banged up, walls damaged, etc and there was a smell in the room. I would remodel and get rid of the ‘themes’. The room does have a few balconies. There was a mini bar with free beers, wine and some chips. There is free breakfast but it is average. They should add fruits. We had all diners in main dining room. Food was good, service was average. We were on the gourmet dining package but they still charged us for the food so check your bills before checking out. Not much in terms of amenities, 3 hot tubs which no one used as you pretty much had everyone in the restaurant watching you…they had a pool table with a few board games. Small bar with 2 seats. Owner was very nice. Location was ok. 30 minutes to Falls and maybe 60 to Vik. It was overall ok but next time, I’d try another place

Very Disappointing

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

The hotel building looks like a log motel in a cow pasture. Most rooms either have views of the parking lot or fiberglass hot tubs. The dining room has views of the other guests in the fiberglass hot tubs. The place is poorly maintained: worn, ripped upholstery on chairs; peeling rusted radiators; dented scratched walls; broken screens on windows; old dirty tub I bathroom. The staff is nice, but directs all issues to owner. Owner describes issues as “details” that “are not important.” Food is fine. Not the worst meal we ever had. But certainly not the best meal we had in Iceland. Other hotels did a better job. We had much nicer rooms and better experiences at Hotel Borg, Hotel Saga, Hotel Buoir, and Hotel Geysir.
