Reviews for Hotel Ranga

A family friendly gem within striking distance of Reykjavík

Exceptional food and service. Extremely well maintained property. Bedding could use an update in our suite but it wasn’t offensive. They could not have been more attentive or accommodating to our multi-generational party.

A wonderful base for relaxation and adventures

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

A very relaxed stay, with a wonderful staff, owner and guests. The mushroom soup is to die for! On a sunny day, the glaciers are visible in the distance, and salmon jump in the river that the gives the hotel it’s name. Many excursions are an easy distance from the hotel, including the Vestmannaeyjabær islands. The staff were very considerate, packing us a box of food as we needed to leave on one adventure prior to breakfast. On a more weathery day, the hot tubs are inviting and there are communal spaces to read or play. The room was comfortable and spacious, with many amenities. We did not take advantage of the observatory, while the equipment looks impressive. A great place to stay.

Best Hotel in Iceland (Possibly Anywhere)

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Hotel Ranga is a destination not to be missed. The owner, manager, and staff are kind, caring, and superb professionals. The rooms are immaculate and updated and the location is excellent for seeing the northern lights and sites of southern Iceland. Breakfast is plentiful and delicious, and kudos go to the chef for his dinners. We will be forever grateful to Hotel Ranga for safeguarding and returning to our home in the US a treasured keepsake that was knitted by one of our children.

No northern lights but nice room, good food and beautiful setting

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We stayed at Hotel Ranga for three nights in September hoping to get a glimpse of the northern lights but mainly because of its great location for exploring southern Iceland. The rooms were nice, the staff friendly and helpful and the food was excellent, which is a good thing because its a long drive to any other restaurant. Perhaps the nicest surprise was the outdoor "hot tubs" which are actually fed by natural hot springs and are just tiny versions of the hot pools that dot Iceland. You can soak in them between 7 AM and 11 PM and it was SO NICE to do that, relaxing with a drink and taking in the beautiful scenery that includes the volcano with an unpronounceable name that stopped air traffic in Europe in 2010 (see photo).
