Perched atop the cliffs at Hermanus, The Marine Hermanus is an urbane sanctuary in a secluded natural setting. This Relais & Chateaux affiliate sits along South Africa(TM)s acclaimed Whale Route, 80 miles east of Cape Town. Nothing but 3,000 miles of ocean drifts between individually decorated accommodations and the South Pole. From a body massage by the tidal pool to a local vintage from the oefloating” wine cellar, each detail at this member of The Collection by Liz McGrath indulges and enchants.

This is a magnificent property. Just being able to whale watch from it's clifftop location made our trip to South Africa worth the flight. But there's so much more. The property is gorgeous, comfortable, and well located. And the staff are over-the-top professional, helpful, and friendly. The meals and beverages were unbelievably good. We only stayed one night, but wished we could have stayed a week. Staying here was one of the great experiences of our lives.

We received such a warm welcome and even though we arrived early, the porters collected our luggage, and it was tagger and at the end of the day when we had access to our rooms all our bags were already in-room. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and so beautifully decorated and after a long day of meetings it was really so divine to go to sleep in the super comfortable beds.

I can unconditionally recommend the Marine. They continue to maintain the highest standards over all the years that we visited the Marine since the late 1980's.

Over a decade ago we discovered Hermanus. After "doing Cape Town" a few times, we now skip it and go directly to the Marine to rest after a long trip from Florida. This year we had 15 glorious nights there! The Marine was built on the cliffs over looking Walker Bay - where hundreds of whales can be seen. The hotel has been maintained in EXTREMELY great condition. I cannot say enough positive things about the cleanliness of the entire hotel. The breakfast buffet is wonderful! The selection of menu and cold items is worthy of a king! Because of the length of our stay, the chef, Lesley, tried to create new and delicious meals! (They have the BEST French fries in the world - and - possibly the best seafood chowder.) Wynona made a very "mean" Bloody Mary for breakfast!!! And, all of this with smiles and charm! It is the friendly-family atmosphere that makes the Marine special! Melissa (GM) and Heloise (assistant GM) strive to make each guest feel important! EVERYONE greets you by name and is helpful! I would recommend a few nights at the Marine - but, stay a bit longer if you can. It is wonderful.

We had the most amazing stay at this fabulous hotel. The service received from all the staff is second to none. We upgraded to a sea view junior suite which was fantastic and slept like a baby in the most amazing bed.
