Perched atop the cliffs at Hermanus, The Marine Hermanus is an urbane sanctuary in a secluded natural setting. This Relais & Chateaux affiliate sits along South Africa(TM)s acclaimed Whale Route, 80 miles east of Cape Town. Nothing but 3,000 miles of ocean drifts between individually decorated accommodations and the South Pole. From a body massage by the tidal pool to a local vintage from the oefloating” wine cellar, each detail at this member of The Collection by Liz McGrath indulges and enchants.

The Marine Hotel easily entered my 'Top 5' worldwide. A fabulous Hotel in a stunning setting. We opted for the deluxe room and were not disappointed. A great base for enjoying long coastal walks, the lovely little town and plentiful wine experiences in the surrounding area. A glimpse of Whale activity (we were slightly out of season), but plentiful Dolphins and Seals. All of this, just 1 hour and 40 mins from Cape Town. I cannot fault this Hotel and have no problem in 100% recommending it. We will definitely be back.

Lovely location and a smart hotel. We enjoyed the excellent food and service in the bar and restaurants and would mention Augustine who was first class and our waitress Merjury who was charming and very professional. We had a minor issue booking dinner through Reception so we would advise checking your dinner reservations!

We are regular guests for over 20 years generally for 10-14 days -we have seen a tremendous change in last 3 years since Mellissa became general manager and importantly has retained an excellent team and empowered them to respond to guest's suggestions -eg Olaf -executive head chef and his team -Lesley and Wesley have overhauled the menu and respond willingly to requests for off menu dishes or old favourites that no longer appear -in my case a magnificent prawn and leek ravioli -or oysters ordered in specially -the result is a buzzy full restaurant most nights wkth happy guests -isn't that where you want to have dinner ?Service is outstanding everywhere from chamber maids to porters to reception bar and restaurant staff -its what brings us back year after year

Starting from our arrival. Nobody at the door to help with the luggages. Our taxi driver had to do it. Then the entrance security called the hotel to help but still nobody. It was 18h30 . So not even nighttime. No excuse The room: The reservation service was good . But the front desk service was unprofessional . We been guaranteed a room with bathtub on high floor and been moreover secured that all rooms in our category has bathtub. Upon arrival they proposed us a room with bathtub on ground floor with no privacy as the windows were opening on a patio everybody was using. OR a room on the requested floor with no bathtub. So clearly even-though the reception were made aware about the type of room guaranteed they didn’t organised for it. After dealing 30 mn with a man that was trying to help ( someone who doesn’t work at the reception), they finally gave us a small room high floor bathtub. Definitely not representative of the website picture. With a view onto a building. The bathtub having no shower hose!! during our stay, we barely had cold water. And couldn’t use the shower and the tub same time as there were not enough water pressure. I have to add we asked for a quiet room as well but they allocate us a room in front of a security door that was always left open and we could hear the road car noise indeed their website picture are very misleading since the hotel is not on a peaceful area but straight on the main road. What else? From the moment we arrived a young man ( hopefully a trainee) kept on asking me to pay for the room, eventhough we were staying 2 nights in the hotel and the deposit was already paid., as if we were gonna run away. Maybe that happened before with clients who realised upon their arrival the rooms and hotel were def not as good as the picture!!! The hotel bar closes at 22h00 on a friday and saturday night. No drinks served after 22h00 . Lights off The pool is in a patio, which is in the shade whole day. Stuck between 2 buildings. No sea facing. No view There is not one lounger or sunbeds elsewhere in the hotel that face the sea. Good luck!

What a wonderful hotel! Perched right on the cliffs overlooking the ocean, the location is superb but the hotel is also wonderful. Comfortable yet elegant!
