The Marine

I enjoyed lunch at The newly refurbished Marine in June this year, and what a wonderful experience it was. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the beautiful hand-painted ceilings in the entrance and along the hallway leading to reception. The newly renovated lounge and bar areas are light, fresh, elegant, and sophisticated, creating a welcoming atmosphere while still retaining the hotel's classic charm. The restaurant was a particular highlight. Decorated in beautiful shades of green and filled with healthy, well-maintained plants, it is an absolute feast for the eyes. The setting is stylish, tranquil, and inviting. Lunch was exceptional. The food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious, while the service from the highly trained, friendly staff was outstanding throughout. The recent refurbishment has transformed this iconic hotel into something truly special. Every detail reflects quality, elegance, and thoughtful design. I can give The Marine nothing less than 5 out of 5 stars and would highly recommend a visit to anyone travelling to Hermanus

★★★★★ A Magnificent Transformation Returning to The Marine in Hermanus after its extensive refurbishment was an absolute delight. What was once a gracious old lady has emerged from her facelift looking more beautiful, elegant, and sophisticated than ever. The attention to detail throughout the hotel is extraordinary. From the beautifully redesigned rooms and lounge areas to the stunning dining room, every space has been thoughtfully refreshed with tasteful furnishings, elegant colour palettes, even exquisite hand-painted artwork on the ceiling leading to reception. Of course, The Marine's breathtaking position overlooking Walker Bay remains one of its greatest assets. Combined with the beautifully renovated interiors and refreshed pool and spa area, the hotel now offers the perfect blend of timeless charm and contemporary luxury. We visited for lunch and enjoyed a seafood platter from the à la carte menu, which was exceptional. Before the meal, we were served a delightful selection of freshly baked ciabatta, crisp breads, and light, flavourful breadsticks accompanied by butter and delicious spreads. The seafood platter was outstanding. The calamari, lightly seasoned with Cajun spices, was tender and perfectly cooked. The kingklip was incredibly fresh and generously portioned, while the prawns were sweet and succulent. The highlight, however, was undoubtedly the mussels and their magnificent sauce—so delicious that we found ourselves dipping pieces of fish into it simply to enjoy every last drop. The platter also included delicate fishcakes made with fish rather than fillers, wonderfully light and crispy. Dessert was equally memorable. The homemade ice creams are a testament to the kitchen's skill and creativity, and every element was beautifully presented and expertly balanced. We were also impressed by the extensive wine list, which proudly showcases many excellent wines from the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley and surrounding areas, alongside a wider selection from further afield. It is wonderful to see such strong support for local producers. The Marine has always enjoyed one of the finest locations in Hermanus, but after this remarkable refurbishment it has once again become one of South Africa's truly exceptional hotel destinations. Congratulations to everyone involved in creating such a stunning transformation. We cannot wait to return.

We stopped in for coffee and desserts on my boyfriend’s recommendation, as he had stayed here before. The hotel has just been renovated, and we were fortunate to visit the restaurant on its opening night. The atmosphere and service were outstanding - staff were exceptionally kind and attentive. The interiors and music created a wonderful ambiance. Coffee and desserts were both delicious and beautifully presented. We truly appreciated the hospitality and the effort put into making our visit memorable.

I now have a new favourite hotel. The Marine is simply wonderful. The location would be hard to beat. Their customer service is superb. Everyone took so much care to ensure my visit was one to remember. My room was beautifully presented, very clean, spacious and with a fabulous ocean view. Although I was travelling on my own I always felt safe. Breakfast and dinner were both excellent with a wide choice and very professional and friendly service. When I am next in Hermanus this will be where I shall stay.

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone at the hotel for taking such good care of us. Our flight got in very early, and we had a two-hour drive from the airport to the hotel. We were totally exhausted, but our check-in time wasn't until later, so the staff went out of their way to get us checked in early so we could rest. The hotel is stunning. The room was gorgeous and had the most comfortable bed we've ever slept in. The restaurant and bar/tea area are lovely with excellent views and food. The hotel is in a great location for walking along the coast. There are plenty of restaurants and small shops nearby as well. Highly recommend.
