Perched atop the cliffs at Hermanus, The Marine Hermanus is an urbane sanctuary in a secluded natural setting. This Relais & Chateaux affiliate sits along South Africa(TM)s acclaimed Whale Route, 80 miles east of Cape Town. Nothing but 3,000 miles of ocean drifts between individually decorated accommodations and the South Pole. From a body massage by the tidal pool to a local vintage from the oefloating” wine cellar, each detail at this member of The Collection by Liz McGrath indulges and enchants.

This is an extraordinary hotel with its location near all the activities in town, beautifully designed rooms and the view of the cliff. Their service was impeccable to the smallest details. I wish we had more time in the Marine and can't wait to return.

A beautiful hotel, the perfect location. Old style hotel with all conforts, rooms are very clean and neat. Only suggestion is to heat the rooms during the cold season ( it will make your stay after a long day out nicer). I suggest a night or two over here!

We are long-time lovers of Hermanus and have stayed at the Marine Hotel on a number of occasions. We decided to hold a big family dinner at the property to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday. I booked 6 rooms for family members and other folk visited just for the dinner. The service levels and staff friendliness and professionalism are truly world class. From booking the rooms, arranging the dinner menus, reception on arrival and treatment during our stay, we can only compliment all management and staff. The property is immaculate and our suite was a good size with great views of Walker Bay and high quality bedding and linen. Our breakfasts and dinner were also fabulous. This is truly a wonderful spot to stay over in the Cape and we will continue to visit it for as long as we can. Bravo!

Staying over, and for even just the one night, was one of the absolute highlights of a 25 day South African Bush and Road Trip. I had made an error on an arrival day, and when we tried to check into our 'booked' accommodation, was told we were expected the next day. The current guests had booked out the entire Lodge so we had to find alternative accommodation, and quickly, as the two kids, a 5 and a 9 year old had been on the road the whole day, and where tired and grumpy. Not to mention that my wife had to take an urgent 7:30pm business call from the US, so we promptly headed over the 'The Marine' What an absolute delight - the receptionist, night manager and all the staff bent over backwards to check us in, get the kids seated and eating dinner. In the meantime, they ushered my wife into our room so she could take her call and at the same time recommended room service so she could get a meal while we all ate downstairs. The kids had finished eating and I was relaxing with a Scotch from their well stocked bar. The barman served the kids cold drinks and then called the manager over and the kids were escorted upstairs and helped into bed. The staff went way above and beyond what is expected, even from a top class hotel The suite we were in was pristine, the view fantastic, the beds all exceptionally comfortable and the kids were soon in dreamland The dinner was excellent and again, the service and attention to detail, sublime. We all had a great breakfast, asked for a late check out and was given it, so we took the opportunity to explore the grounds and beach walk. The area is beautiful and a few whales were seen in the distance. The rest of the property is as good as our room was and In general, the service was seamless and flawless and the night spent was an absolute pleasure!

A very pleasant stay. The room was very comfortable, and the staff went out of their way to look after us. We will definitely come again.
