Reviews for Sonesta Resort Hilton Head Island

Tranquil escape

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

We spent 4 nights at the Sonesta while attending a family event in Hilton Head and had a great time. The staff was professional and courteous. The atmosphere at the resort was very relaxing, we had direct beach access and there were several food options available on-site. When we experienced an issue with our room, Jermaine promptly brought it to the attention of Michael Insua, who went over and beyond to ensure we had an enjoyable stay. I highly recommend this resort.

Pros and Cons but love that we could bring our cat

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Great property but a few things to note. First, we picked this hotel because needed a hotel where the kids and I could bring our one year old cat. We booked the Garden Suite and were surprised to find that it is perfectly situated facing the pool. The garden suite was perfect for three people - my daughter and I shared the king bed, and my middle school aged son slept on the sofa bed. The suite is large - lots of room and a large bathroom. All rooms with animals are on the first floor, so we could walk right out the patio door to the pool, it was great. The hotel staff did an excellent job of keeping our cat safe while the room was cleaned. I was very surprised to learn that they didn’t charge me the pet fee for my cat. We went to the beach and booked chairs and an umbrella for our stay. I didn’t like that the rental chairs were behind all the pop-up tents from people coming in from the public beach access. It was fine - just annoying. If I did it all over again, I would have brought our beach chairs and umbrella to set up closer to the ocean. Our only issue the entire trip was the Patio restaurant. The food is overpriced and basic, and the service was really terrible. We had a night when only one item out of five arrived as it was supposed to, it was comical what was coming out of the kitchen. The manager took care of it but he seems very weak. Because they allow pets, I would probably stay here again.

Mostly great hotel with few things to fix

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Few issues kept it from 5 stars. I really liked hotel and Hilton head and wish could have stayed a day longer but had other plans. I was surprised they had rooms available the Thursday before memorial weekend. They did have conference coming in Friday. Start with the bad. Worst being they had hood issues in outdoor kitchen. They used runners to bring food from other restaurant but oddly would not bring alcohol from same so had to get Chardonnay to go. There was some small wear and tear including water stain on our room ceiling. Also while great has shuttle they were not well organized in running it though that might have to do with how little used so unless request have to find someone to run. Hotel in good shape as one thing care about is Peloton and their bike worked great. Gym is small but functional. Has two pools as one is adults only and while right next to main pool was quieter. Pool had waiters to bring food and drink or could go to bar. Had food at Patio, coffee shop and seacrest. Nothing was great but was not bad either. I assume my breakfast was sane food they use in Buffett. One good thing is all the restaurants have different menus. Bartender at run runner and pool bar was good, spotty service at patio. Had massage and pedicure at spa. Small staff as seems only two people. Massage was good m. Pedicure was passable. Used to having callus removal and other treatments. Room was comfortable. Neither room or hotel set up for work as no desk in room though do have table. Hotel also has no business center if need privacy outside of room. Beach looks good though did not use.

Great Experience at Sonesta Hilton Head

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

This was our first time staying at the Sonesta Hilton Head, but it certainly will not be our last. This resort is one of the best my wife and I have ever stayed at, and we travel all over the world. First off, the resort is clean and very welcoming. From the moment you walk through the door it is impressive. The check in process was first class, the room was clean and spacious, the staff was friendly and polite. The pools were awesome, the grounds were well kept, and the food at all of the restaurants was delicious and well priced. It was a very short walk to the beach which was nice. The resort is within the Shipyard neighborhood, so it is kind of tucked back from the ocean with trees surrounding it. If you are looking for a resort right on the beach with views of the ocean, this is not it. Not their fault, just the placement of the buildings. Overall, I would give this resort an excellent rating as this will now become a once a year trip for us moving forward.

Nice resort, good price for Hilton Head

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

This resort is in the Shipyard District, relatively close to Coligny Plaza. There are some nice restaurants within 1-2 miles. Rooms are spacious, staff are helpful, they have an outdoor pool and beach access. They have a store where you can buy breakfast items instead of going to the restaurant. It appears to be popular for weddings. It has very nice grounds. Good place!

My wife and I had a very good time at the Sonesta Resort at Hilton head. Everybody was very polite and helpful. If you want to thank somebody at Sonesta it would be the lady at the Front desk who was so cooperative.
