Retro Gem

This hotel was a great find. It's a fun place to stay with its retro decor. Free activities like walking tour to the Brady Bunch House, Yoga in the park, free movies by the pool at night. It is a little out of the way, but they run a free shuttle to the Metro station and Universal studios every hour up until 11.00pm. Cocktails and street food by the pool at happy hour. I highly recommend it.

Perfect!

Loved our stay for the first part of our trip. Family of 4 with two young children. We booked this hotel to enjoy hollywood and go to universal. The rooms were spotless and a perfect size. Large bathroom with nice big walk in shower. Room had a balcony too. The floor was hard floor and not carpet which I prefer so it was a nice surprise as i didn't see this on the images. The shuttle was so convenient for Universal and all the staff were friendly in the hotel . After a long day we would phone up and order food from the restaurant for collection, food was great and good size portions. Didn't have time to enjoy the pool but the pool looked nice along with the grounds. Can't fault the hotel or location. Hope to come back again in the future.

What a gem of a hotel! Just lovely— accommodating, clean, thoughtful and exceptional staff. We needed a place to stay for two nights while our house was being fumigated We needed. Place where we could bring our dog. The Garland was our first choice and it exceeded our expectations. The front desk/check in staff was great and welcoming. Everyone we encountered during our stay was same. Every need is anticipated. I had a wonderful conversation with Brunco (sp?) who has been here 24 years and the valet who has been here for nine. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable. The bath amenities are classy. The owners have taken steps to mitigate noise and we slept comfortably. They are terrific to dogs and provide everything you need. Even a small gated dog park. The Front Yard is a wonderful restaurant (we eat here all the time year round) and welcomes dogs on the patio dining which was a nice surprise. Cannot say enough and very highly recommend.we also love supporting a family owned business. Kudos to James and the entire Garland family! Thank you for making our stay so wonderful .

A hidden gem in the Studio City / Hollywood

My wife and I stayed at the Garland for 3 nights at the end of June. We were absolutely delighted with the property and the staff we encountered during our stay. Our stay started much earlier than could have been anticipated. We were coming off a cruise ship out of San Pedro and got onsite quite early - like 9:30-10a. We stopped by the front desk to ask if they would allow us to use the on-site laundry services while we waited for our room. The Garland was quite hospitable in looking at our reservation and giving us a key-card to do our laundry after realizing they didn't have any rooms available... Not that I expected to check in that early. We got our chores done and had a lovely lunch in their restaurant, the Front Yard. My wife was taking all sorts of pictures as inspiration as we begin to decorate our house. By the time that wrapped up, our rooms were ready a bit earlier than expected and we were able to get in and settled. The property is unashamed of its history - bringing the vibrancy of the 1970s to today's time in a way that simply worked. Add in a bit of upscale California chic and you have the design aesthetic for the entire property. The room is cozy, but it has everything you need where you need it. The bed ended up being the most comfortable one we slept on as we drove across the country and back. And they use bath products from a company called Lather that I absolutely love and are one of the two companies I use in my own bathroom. The common areas - and particularly the pool space - were spectacularly maintained. Everything was always clean and maintained. The way the pool deck is shaped and with the usage of foliage, we actually forgot that we were in the middle of the country's second largest city. As people left their chairs, staff was by immediately to replace the linens on each one, preparing for the steady stream of new people coming in. From the customer's perspective, everything just worked. But if you took a second to think about it and see what was going on, there was an incredible amount of thought and care that went into the planning of the spaces and the ongoing diligent service of the staff doing every task. On the weeknights there was a kid's movie playing and all the little ones were in the pool playing together while the adults mostly stayed on the pool deck chatting and enjoying drinks and snacks from the hotel bar. And what took all of this to the next level were the people. Everybody was friendly and helpful. Housekeeping, Front Desk, Food/Bev.. across the board. Every interaction was just downright pleasant. All said, by the time we were leaving, my wife was already trying to plan another reason to get out to the LA area and we would without a doubt be returning to the Garland. (Please note that I offered them this review directly via their review processes and I was asked to repeat it here on Tripadvisor, which I'm happy to do)

Groovy, Baby!

My family loved this 1970's themed hotel in NoHo! The common areas and rooms were newly renovated and beautifully maintained, and the hotel does a great job of having a 70's theme but not looking dated. (We kept joking that we felt like we were in an Austin Powers movie.) The service was excellent, as the front desk was super friendly and helpful, and we also really enjoyed The Front Yard restaurant's daily breakfast as well as casual food by the pool and hot tub (which were great). We also took advantage of the free shuttle to Universal Studios, which saved us a bunch on parking. Overall we had an excellent stay and I very highly recommend this family-friendly and shagadelic hotel!
