The Garland is a fantastic hotel. Totally retro & funky. Check in staff were super friendly and even gave us suggestions on where to go in San Diego (where we travelled too after LA) Rooms are spacious and clean, there was a mini fridge and tea/coffee facilities. On our floor (ground) we had a hydration station where you can fill up water bottles and also fill up the ice bucket in your room. Bed was super comfy and room cleaned daily with fresh towels etc. Because of the location of the hotel its not within walking distance to the main attractions (apart from Universal) so the car was very handy. The trolly down to Universal was great. We did have dinner one night in the main restaurant at the front of the hotel and it was fantastic. Delicious cocktails. We also enjoyed the movie around the pool in the evening, it was a perfect was way to end a busy day. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Garland and would not hesitate to return.

The shared spaces in this hotel are really beautiful and thoughtfully decorated - the bar, the hotel, the pool area all gorgeous! The staff are attentive and really friendly. The trolly bus to universal was fab. The films by the pool of an evening were a thoughtful touch (however the surrounding area was a little noisy on a Saturday night so you couldn’t really hear). The parking was quite expensive at around $40 a day. I don’t know how this compares to other hotels. The rooms are clean and fit for purpose, however a little basic. We were visiting from the UK and would compare the rooms to a premier inn. We thought it was a shame the hotel’s beautiful decor and charm didn’t really extend to our room.

Wanting a hotel near to universal studios this seemed ideal as it has a free trolley which runs every hour and is only 10 minutes away, for this it’s ideal and trolley service is really good. The pool bar was a little disappointing and a few drinks we wanted to order we were told they had run out no big deal but disappointing. The food in the pool area is quite limited but serves its purpose. The front yard restaurant next door is nice but again quite limited in options, non of this really made are stay a problem, The front desk staff nice and efficient , front yard staff nice and efficient , pool area staff complete opposite , I’m writing this on the last night we are staying as I’ve probably experienced one of the worst service experience for a long time, sat down at table in pool area just wanting a snack. a little busy but not over busy, no one come to serve us had to ask for service, order was wrong missing item which was included on bill had to ask to be taken off , did offer to bring missing item when paying bill, really ill sit back down and start eating again, long wait for check went and asked another server who said no problem and just carried on doing something else and completely ignored us, again had to physically ask original server, no apology for anything and just an enjoy the rest of your evening. I can’t believe the difference between how good the servers in the front yard are compared to the servers in the pool area it’s night and day and for this reason when visiting this area again I’d stay elsewhere

We absolutely loved our stay at The Garland in North Hollywood. The staff were phenomenal—warm, attentive, and nothing was ever too much trouble. I truly can't speak highly enough of them. We travelled as a family of five and stayed in a Family Suite. It was a bit cramped with two early adults, but that’s on us—it would be perfect for a younger family of four or five. The rooms are older, but that’s part of the charm, and everything was clean and well-maintained. The location was fantastic for Universal Studios, which was a big plus, though it was a bit further from some of the other places we wanted to visit—but again, that’s on us. We used the pool most days and loved the Dive-In movies—such a fun touch! The buffet breakfast was great value, and having a laundry on-site with free detergent was incredibly helpful. Overall, a welcoming, well-run hotel with thoughtful amenities and truly exceptional service. We’d absolutely stay again.

I recently stayed during my first trip to LA, with my three kids, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience! I like that they have a text messaging system — it made it super easy to communicate with the staff whenever I had a question during our stay. They always responded quickly . The overall vibe of the hotel was really cool — kind of retro, with a fun and relaxed atmosphere. I used the fitness center and was impressed with the variety of machines available. My kiddos enjoyed the pool while I enjoyed the hot tub. They have a cozy fireplace by the pool. Another convenient perk was the laundry room & FYI they offer free detergent! When I needed change for the machines, the little store onsite was kind enough to break my bill so I could use the coin changer. We ate at The Front Yard restaurant and had a great experience. The service was quick, the food tasted great, and I appreciated how easy it was to grab a meal without leaving the property. One of my favs was the trolley service to Universal Studios, which we used on our park days. It runs every hour, and the driver was really friendly — he even chatted with my son, which was such a kind and thoughtful touch.
