All flash for lots of cash

Our suite which we got for a $12 upgrade, was spacious and had a decent view. But it was missing a few things I would consider standard in a $700 a night suite. The entry to the bathroom closest to the room entry has no door. That means there is zero privacy for anyone using the bathroom if someone comes to the door. While we are on the subject of the bathroom, there is no towel hook in the toilet room. There is a sink to wash your hands, but nowhere to put a clean dry towel. And because the sink is a pedestal, nowhere to put an extra roll of toilet paper, except on the back of the toilet. There is a towel rack at the foot of the tub, but no towel rack for the shower. There is a closet opposite and nowhere convenient to put a towel. Most surprisingly, there were no complementary robes or slippers. I’ve stayed in $200 a night hotels that have had these; do better Marriott. My breakfast for one cost me $70, or 10% of the cost of the room for the day. The breakfast was fine, but this is obscenely expensive. Our last full day at the hotel on Sunday, we were unable to use any of the common areas of the hotel because unannounced to us the entire area was being used for the Beyoncé tour. I feel like the biggest amenity was taken from us without any advance warning. We couldn’t get coffee at the coffee shop nor could we enjoy the bar area. We got free valet parking with our suite, so I don’t know how much that is. I can tell you that it is extremely unsafe, pulling out of the hotel because of a huge planter that blocks your vision from oncoming pedestrians. The location itself is extremely loud with extensive traffic noise. We also had a lot of noise from our neighbors, especially the people in the room next-door due to an adjoining door room that did not block noise at all. Would I stay here again? With no on-site restaurant other than a coffee shop, a strong focus on appearance versus true amenities, and lackluster service from the cleaning crew when it came to stocking coffee, sugar, and adequate towels, it’s a pass for me. There are too many other great places to stay in Los Angeles for less money.

Over the top spectacular...

The "new" W Hollywood is over the top spectacular in the best possible way. They've just had a nearly $200M, world class renovation, and every dollar was well spent. The lobby and common areas are incredible, the rooms are amazing, killer views, a fantastic new gym with everything you could want, and an insane rooftop pool and multi level cabanas + bar. Of course, staff is everything, and the W has an excellent team: Amelia in management is just awesome, there is actually a real concierge (rare in the US these days), Thelma, and she is super knowledgeable, Vlad that runs the very cool Cafe Goldie is great, and Lauren at the rooftop bar Wet Deck was wonderful. There's no other hotel that comes close in the area.

Awesome service and gorgeous hotel!

Amazing stay at this fabulous hotel. We did a last minute decision to go to LA for the weekend and found this gem. We got a suite with the help of manager Lei, and loved it. Lei made sure that every need was met and also sent up some nice refreshments. Thank you Lei! We came on a sunny weekend and it was perfect for walking around Hollywood, Walk of Fame and Griffith park. This hotel is newly remodeled and the decor really wow'd me. It was meticulously clean with modern decor. We love it.

Cheers for Naomi!

Naomi was a rockstar! She went overboard to accommodate us in a request for a quiet space. She was so helpful and welcoming! The food was excellent and the room was perfect! The common spaces are beautifully appointed and love the wine hour every day!

Best stay ever

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I had the best stay at the W back in November. I stayed for an early birthday celebration and from arrival to check out, our visit was perfect. When we arrived the bellmen weren’t available but we were helped by some security guards to the lobby and they made sure to give our car keys to a valet worker. Thank you to security Tanya and Jeff. The check in process was quick and easy, thanks to the receptionists who welcomed us, Cynthia, Karla and Noemi. Throughout our stay receptionists Micaela, Laura, Gabriel and Bree helped us in answering our questions and welcomed us back every time we walked into the hotel. People who also made our stay very comfortable were the bellmen Kevin, Louis, Manny and Jamal. As well as the runner, Walter. Last but not least I’d love to thank the director, Amelia and the concierge team, Lina, Thelma and Marinna for making my mom and me feel very special with the surprise for my birthday and the help they provided in figuring out what to do around the hotel. This stay was definitely one for the books and I will surely be back, not just for the city, but in hopes to see the amazing team they’ve got at the W Hollywood.
