The Laylow Waikiki, Autograph Collection

We stopped over with family returning from Japan via The Edit with Marriott Gold Elite recognition. Transit logistics were super convenient especially with us trying the airport bus this time stopping directly outside. The room’s partitioned workspace allowed us to work comfortably after the kids were asleep. Thoughtful details like the lobby sparkling water station and Lather amenities stood out. However, room placement is critical: our 5th-floor corner room sat directly above The Hideout’s evening venue, resulting in heavy bass and party noise at night (front desk checked availability to relocate us, but the hotel was at capacity). Two operational lapses stood out: the room compendium lists microwaves that are no longer available on-site (we ended up eating cold bentos for dinner), and shower hot water stopped functioning over our final two days. Breakfast at The Hideout was outstanding. The open-air patio atmosphere is great, and the crispy baby potatoes are exceptional. The complimentary poolside shaved ice was an absolute standout for the children after travel days. Staff Shout-Outs: Melody (The Hideout): Delivered warm, attentive morning service that anchored our breakfast experience daily. Chefs James & Kimo (Kitchen): Consistently sharp breakfast execution across the board. Nori (Housekeeping): Impeccable daily room upkeep and attention to detail. Poolside Gift Shop Host: Created a memorable daily highlight serving shaved ice to our kids. A vibrant property with overall warm hospitality and top-tier dining; requesting an upper floor (floor 8+) well away from the restaurant patio is highly recommended for traveling families.

I used to love the Moana Surf Rider on Waikiki Beach. Been to Hawaii over 50+ times in the last ten years and it wasn't until last year that I stayed at the LayLow. The hotel is very nice, the location is good, the pool is small but very nice - but what I think really made our stay great were the employees. Generally they are attentive, professional and courteous. However, when I came back to the hotel this year I was sitting in the restaurant during the hurricane and it dawned on me: "How do I know that server?" Well, that question was answered by the server in the next ten minutes. "Hi Mr. Hubbard how are you?" I was fascinated that she remembered not only my name, but my daughter as well. "How is your daughter did she decide where she was going to college?" Then? It all came back to me. This was the bartender/server who served my daughter and I coffee, every morning during our stay, the year prior as we were touring UofH. This may not seem like a big deal, but it is to me. When you're a frequent traveler hotels are a dime a dozen. They all have good rooms, great pools, beach access, etc. In my humble opinion when you REALLY like a hotel...it's because something about that place - normally the service, or it could be an interaction, it's one of those things that stays with you and encourages you to come back and book the trip again at that same place. All I have to say is Melody is an outstanding person and professional. Additionally? Most servers serve on "Hawaii time." Which, if you're from the East Coast can be a little frustrating. She is efficient, polite, pleasant, and goes above and beyond. She remembered my daughter, obviously, and struck up the conversation with her as well from the point where we left off - a year prior. It was clearly obvious that she cared. That? To me? That's a difference maker. To be honest, most if not all of the staff at the LayLow are great but Melody really sticks out in my head. It's nice to go places where you are not just "another guest." It's nice to go somewhere ... where people remember your name, and remember who you are - and that's why I'm writing this review. FIVE STARS for Melody and the Laylow. I'm going back in November. Sorry Moana Surfrider...

Truly enjoyed my stay. You need to check out the Hideout when you’re there. Make sure to ask for Melody. She made our breakfast enjoyable, memorable and easy with her awesome recommendations. Her hospitality and charisma is why we will be back.

Grabbed breakfast with my family and had a great time! Food and atmosphere was awesome and the service was especially great. Melody was very attentive, made great suggestions (the Hideout Benedict- kalua pork was so tasty and the baby potatoes were to die for!), and really just made the whole experience better. Will definitely be coming back!

Had such a good vibe! We had drinks by the sand pit with Nicole. She was so lovely!!!
