We stayed at outrigger Waikiki. We were in the newly remodeled portion. The beds and pillows were fabulous. The partial ocean was beautiful. We were walking distance from food and shopping. Or stay at the hotel to eat Dukes or Hula Grill both are delicious.

We booked our stay (oceanfront, jacuzzi, club) in October of this past year, but were contacted by phone months later saying the club would be under construction. We chose to modify our reservation to not include the club access, but were assured we would still have an oceanfront jacuzzi room. Throughout the phone call we were given the impression that ONLY the club lounge would be under construction, and were not notified of any other construction at the hotel. When arriving at Waikiki, we were welcomed warmly by the staff, and were able to check in an hour early, which was appreciated. When checking in, I confirmed I booked an oceanfront jacuzzi room, the front desk employee verified this. We got up to our room, 1424, and there was no jacuzzi. Amy from the front desk apologized and said that the hotel no longer has jacuzzi rooms, despite what the other employees had guaranteed us-she said it was because we booked before construction had began. She did see that we paid a higher rate for a jacuzzi room, and adjusted our rate accordingly. However, the previous miscommunication about the guarantee of a jacuzzi room, despite one supposedly not even existing, is unacceptable. This did not start our stay on a positive note. We soon discovered that it was not just the club lounge that was under construction. The elevators were covered in protective draping, and also randomly stopped on floors full of construction materials when we were simply trying to get up to our floor. Other guests, verified that the elevator situation was ridiculous. You couldn’t get to the pool without walking through a bunch of drunk people at Duke’s because of the closed off construction areas. Throughout our stay, we were woken up by before 8:00 AM, (usually around 7:30), by construction workers in the room NEXT DOOR. There was drilling, banging, and construction workers loudly talking right outside our door. One worker was loudly cursing. We had wanted to sleep in, and couldn’t even escape the noise to the pool/beach because you can’t get towels until 8:00. When leaving our room, construction workers would constantly be in our way, and one morning there was a huge container of construction debris right outside of our door. I reached out to Outrigger via social media about this, and was assured a manager would contact me. NO MANAGER EVER CONTACTED ME. It did appear that we were some of the first guests staying in a newly renovated room, which we appreciated at first. The streaming on the TV was great, and the bed was nice. However, there was still some construction dust remaining, and overall the design of the room was not great. Why is the bathroom light switch (in a very tiny bathroom) behind the towel rack where towels are hanging, making it inaccessible? Why is the fridge/vanity unit in the middle of the room blocking the path and making the room closed off? On the second night of our stay we returned late to our room to find a letter stating that the water would be turned off for “emergency reasons,” (probably construction reasons), for three hours the following morning. From 9:00 to noon the next day, our room would be essentially unusable-no bathroom, shower etc. we were offered no sort of compensation for this major inconvenience. Following the water shut off, we returned to our room to find that the electricity in one corner of the room was completely off. No lights, charging capability, or alarm clock…good thing we had not been relying on that alarm clock to catch our flight. I had plugged a bunch of my electronics in assuming they would charge while we were gone, but apparently you can’t assume that an entire Outrigger room will have electricity. That corner of the room had NO ELECTRICITY for the rest of our stay. When checking out we again spoke to Amy. She did sincerely apologize, and took a quarter off of our bill, saying it was the best she could do. I do believe her, and she tried her best to make it right, but we can’t get those three nights of vacation back. This was our first trip booking Outrigger, and we also tried Outrigger Beachcomber, and Outrigger Kona on this same vacation. While they were not as nice as other resorts I’ve stayed at, they were generally fine. Outrigger Beachcomber was the most affordable, so we could be a bit more understanding when there was a long line at check in, or when they ran out of beach towels. Outrigger Kona did have construction going on, but besides some fencing outside the lounge slightly obstructing the view, it was not a major disturbance. (However, we were not notified of that construction in advance either.) The valet workers at Kona were excellent and a highlight of our stay there, and we also had positive experiences with the employees in the lounge. As someone who usually stays at Hyatt or Marriott resorts, my husband and I did consider other hotels on the beach. If it had been communicated to us earlier that the room we booked was unavailable and that we would be NEXT DOOR TO ACTIVE CONSTRUCTION, we would have booked elsewhere for the final part of our stay and still had an okay opinion of Outrigger based on our other two stays. Our stay at Outrigger Waikiki not only ended our vacation badly, but has turned us off of Outrigger all together. We did appreciate the view from our room, and the chairs by the pool looking at the beach. If we had not been unknowingly placed in the middle of active construction, we may have even had found ourselves wanting to return. However, Outrigger chose to be uncommunicative, deceptive, and greedy…losing themselves future customers.

I had a wonder time during my 1 week stay. Everything was in walking distance, took several tours, right across the street from the mall, good breakfast, lunch and dinner. Very nice hotel, clean, great service and lots of people in the area. The only thing I did not like is they did not have any microwaves in the room. I had to request one and the one they brought me was beat up and not to clean. In the future, it really would be nice to have microwaves in all rooms so that guest can warm their left over food or drinks up. They were doing construction on the hotel when I was their. Plan on going back in 2027 staying at the same hotel hopefully for 2 weeks and hope all rooms have microwaves in the near future. Other then that, beautiful place to stay right on the beech. See you in summer 2027!
