Beautiful Hotel, but a Few Areas Need Improvement

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

For the most part, the hotel felt like a five-star experience. The front desk staff was wonderful—friendly, helpful, and welcoming. I was surprised that the hotel doesn’t have a small gift shop or offer basic necessities such as over-the-counter medicine. Housekeeping could also use some improvement. The valet service was just okay, although I do appreciate how hard the team works in the heat. Overall, I enjoyed my stay, but these areas kept it from being a full five-star experience for me.

Nice people but poorly managed and tired, worn interior.

Arrived and had to wait in line only because they never issued by electronic key. Check in was okay. Hallways and rooms look 5 years past what should have been its renovation moment. Message light— called the operator and she said I had a breakfast letter. Told her I’d received at check in. 10 mins later light still on. Called again — she said there’s a second breakfast letter. Told her to have it sent up. Never arrived. Light stayed on. Called and said “please just turn it off. Food decent but scallops were awful. Frozen does that. Removed the cart and put do not disturb sign on door. 10 mins later houseman knocks. Incredulity. He knocks again. I asked what he wanted? He had brought toothpaste and shave kit. Told him that was in the room when I got here! And why would he knock when I’ve the DND sign on knob? Several miscues in first 1.5 hours. If decor had been anything better than that which would he used in a funeral home, they’d get a break. Also electronics are anachronistic. Need more modern chargers and a gut rebo!

Afternoon Tea Review

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

Been coming to tea for over 15+ years here. Had a good experience but disappointed that they didn't keep the level of the St. Regis , especially since the price is the same if not more. The actualTea itself is different but they are looking to find comparable ones to replace the' St. Regis' blend. A few tweaks would really help the overall experience. 1.) When the harpist takes a break; play overhead music 2). do not serve scones on same plate as dessert to conserve plates as there isn't enough room on plate 3) Fix outside water feature and have running or replace (current eye sore) 4) return fresh flowers to side tables 5) do NOT have your guests box their own leftovers 6) take off the gimmicky flowers/butterflies/decorations on desserts as the cheapen the dessert and are not needed since they taste great without. 7) validate parking for tea guests since they are paying for a premium experience. Overall the tea sandwiches, scones (although smaller) and desserts are still excellent and will continue to come just wishing they would maintain the standard of excellence the tea room has been known for.
