Camino Real Zaashila

Was here for a wedding. The room in my view was amazing but some of the rooms had plumbing issues. The restaurant was good if you ordered from the buffet, but off the menu took very long. It was hard to get coffee for the coffee maker in my room.

There are stairs everywhere: to go to the restaurant, to the bar, to the pool, etc. It is clear to me that the style of the hotel is characteristic of the brand, and it highlights the view to the ocean. But you can only get that kind of (beautiful) effect by having multiple levels at the property. I took my mom to celebrate her 70th birthday and we had a great time; but her knee started bothering her after two days. We had a room with view to the ocean that was lovely but with a lot of stairs and no elevator, unfortunately. It was too much for mom after two days of stairs everywhere. The atmosphere is quiet, great to relax. The food is good, and the staff is friendly. Rocio, Antonio, Avelino, Raymundo, Hugo and everybody are great. Thanks to the wonderful staff. I like the property and it’s great for guests with no issues with stairs. This is a property in which you can come to relax and not worry about a thing. It’s quiet and calm.

the property has a very nice location next to the sea. The staff is friendly. However, some of the installations are old and not maintained sufficiently e.g the plug in the bathtup did not work and it was actually a little bit dangerous until it was finally removed. Therefore, it was not possible to use the bathtub. The restaurant has a buffet and also a la carte options. However, the standard of the buffet did not live up to what we would expect from a 4 or 5 star hotel. The quality of the a la carte dishes were uneven and it took very long time to deliver some of them. The price level taken into consideration it was not satisfactory. Finally, the prices of the laundry services were higher than those displayed in the list placed in our room. It is not ok to charge more than listed.

We just completed a week of family holiday in July 2026 at the Camino Real Zaashila in Huatulco. It was me and my husband and our 14 year-old son. We've been to Mexico 4 times previously, each time at an all-inclusive. This holiday was nice, but our least favourite for a few reasons. To start, this property is without doubt the most beautiful aesthetically in the Huatulco hotel zone! This was one of the reasons we chose this hotel. It was just gorgeous with the design of the white bungalows and buildings against the lovely blue pool against the Tangolundo bay ocean. Beautifully designed. Some reviews we read said they found it dated. We see what they mean - it didn't bother us too too much, but you can definitely see that the property is not being kept up to highest quality as it may have been 15 years ago... things like decay, mold, crumbling infrastructure. However, we found it very hard to enjoy the holiday and the beauty of the property because it was missing some very important pieces. We found Huatulco to be one of the hottest place in Mexico we've visited. In fact, the temperature was roughly the same, but something about the humidity and the fact that any breeze from the ocean is HOT, made it very very hard to enjoy time outside. On past holidays, we'd read and get hot and then jump in the pool to cool off, but unfortunately, the Camino Real Zaashila does not cool its pool. The water was as hot as the ambient air the whole day long. Soupy warm water is not pleasant. The Pacific Ocean in that zone is dangerous to swim in. Every day had a red flag indicating you could only swim with caution. We did splash in the water (which was at least cooler than the pool), but couldn't go deeper than a few feet because of strong undertow. Maybe it's safer to swim at other times in the year. The resort also has no spaces that are air conditioned besides our room and a Starbucks coffee shop which we were not keen to support (and of course isn't included in the all-inclusive offerings). The restaurant is not air conditioned - even the one room with a conditioner was never on while we were there. There was virtually no air movement in any of the common spaces. As a result, there was no where we could go to get cool. Of course, we understand that we went to Mexico in July, but in our other experiences at similar times of the year, other resorts seemed to have spaces and cool pools to provide relief. We met several wonderful workers at the resort and appreciated all their hard work. We noticed that we were the only English speaking people at the resort and we often struggled to communicate with our basic Spanish. Of course, in Mexico, it's more of our problem not to speak Spanish, but perhaps other visitors might find it useful to note about this property. We enjoyed most of the food at this property, but it's important to note that at any time of the time, you have only ONE choice of where to eat. The hotel makes it sound like there are 5 restaurants you can choose from. In fact, in the morning, there is a breakfast buffet. At lunch, you can only eat at the beach restaurant from a menu (that is mostly excellent!). At dinner, it's back to the buffet at the main restaurant. There is a bar - but that's only for drinks. We were very confused about another menu floating around and had a lot of trouble understanding if we could order from it or not. On our 2nd to last day, we discovered you could order a la cart at dinner, but we waited more than 30 -40 minutes for the food. This property is small. We like that about it! But if you have a teen or are looking for more amenities, you may prefer another choice. We read about things like a Beach Club, tennis, equipment rentals but did not find any of those things at the property. A ping pong table or foosball table would be so welcome! We read about a spa, but really it was just individual people offering spa services at the beach.... there isn't a full spa facility with multiple services. In the end, we ended up doing adventures off property to keep our teen engaged, and probably spent more time in the room than we'd have liked partly just so we could regulate and keep from overheating. Overall, if you are looking for a gorgeous place to holiday, you don't mind a warm pool, you are good at withstanding heat, and enjoy a simple property the Camino Real Zaashila is a good choice. The things that disappointed us were picky things... but knowing what to expect helps others on Trip Advisor make the right choice for the holiday they want.
