We just got back from a week away on the all inclusive package through Air Canada Vacations. Overall I was pleased. The resort is beautiful and the service was amazing. If you aren't fussy, you will have a great time. With that said, the reviews are true -- the rooms are dated and the blankets were in bad shape (ripped) and the duvet and pillow covers were a strange thick fabric and they also looked like they had seen better days. The bathrooms were also in need of a good scrub. This didn't really bother my husband and I because we're not overly fussy and we were barely in the room anyway. The one thing that drove us crazy was the lack of towels. We got two bath towels and had to ask to get more, they also didn't give us any face cloths or a towel for the floor. Annoying. The food was good - I was honestly worried about this after seeing the comments about the food. I didn't find it bland at all, and the restaurants provide a lot of salsas, hot sauce, etc to make it suit everyone. Breakfasts were amazing - loved the fresh fruit and egg station. Lunch at the beach bar was also great - we got ceviche, tacos, guac, fish.. everything was tasty, fresh and made to order. Dinner was the only one where I wish we left the resort.. it got repetitive after a bit. Italian night was the biggest disappointment and the food actually upset our stomachs a bit. Other than that, no complaints. Beach - it was VERY choppy and we had a black flag for 3 of the days and red flat for the others. We barely went swimming unfortunately. One day we took a cab to a nearby public beach but it was very busy. If you're able, you can cross over the rocks to the next door resort's beach which was a lot calmer (but with a stricter lifeguard). We went off the resort a few times and felt very safe walking around in La Crucecita. Lots of food and cafe options! The service was the standout- especially Manuel and Juanita at breakfast and Javier and Angel at lunch. Everyone was amazing! I would highly recommend spending a beautiful week here if you can manage your expectations. I thought we got great value.

This is not like other resorts. There is no loud music, chairs being held with towels and hats but empty for hours, or aged buffet food. Camino Real Zaashila resort goes against all the typical resort gluttony and self serving, entitled consumption and exploitation of this beautiful country. Reserving chairs and personal speakers are forbidden, the staff are kind and professional and the food is excellent. While the rooms are slightly aged, the linens are superior quality and the pool towels are also high quality. Anyone looking for a different resort experience will surely love this resort as much as we did.

We had a great time for our first stay! The location, food and atmosphere were all great. It’s smaller but a really nice resort all around. Quiet which is welcomed. Will be back!

Very relaxed resort. Limited distractions for people with itchy feet; great place for those who want to put their feet up and chill.
