About the Hotel

Set on a two and a half-hectare site with 200 metres of frontage on the fabled Perfume River, Azerai La Residence, Hue has 122 rooms & suites. The colonial mansion at the heart of the resort was built in 1930s as part of the residence of the French Resident Superieure. The mansion’s distinctive façade, its long horizonal lines and nautical flourishes are hallmark of the streamline moderne school of art deco architecture. Its two complementary wings, built in 2005, are contemporary in design yet echo elements of art deco aesthetics and embrace an expansive tropical garden and salt-water swimming pool.

Reviews for Azerai La Residence, Hue

Fantastic stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

I stayed here for four nights in July 2026 as a solo female traveler (I was originally supposed to stay for two nights, but I enjoyed this hotel and Hue so much that I extended!). The building is truly stunning. It is the former French colonial governor’s house, and the hotel conversion tastefully preserved the original art deco aesthetic. My room was spacious and stylishly decorated, and had a HUGE patio. Evening turndown came with lovely homemade Hue cakes. The breakfast was extensive and delicious. I also had two very good dinners at the restaurant as well. The pool was lovely. The hotel also arranged for a driver to take me sightseeing. The staff were exceptionally attentive and gracious. And the location on the Perfume River is an easy walk to the Imperial City, restaurants, and cafes. I highly recommend Hue La Residence if you are in Hue.

Wonderful stay

Stayed here for 5 nights. Truly wonderful hotel, which is in the art-deco style. Good location by the perfume river. The staff was truly amazing. So friendly. They did everything to make your stay better. Nothing was too much to ask. Highly recommend!!

Mr. Hao of Azerai La Résidence

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

He is awake before the mist lifts off the Perfume River, before the citadel gates remember their own age. No title precedes his name on any org chart worth printing — not owner, not manager, not the practiced smile of a concierge desk. He is something older than a job description, something Hué itself seems to have appointed him to: keeper of the threshold between a guest’s exhaustion and their first real breath of Vietnam. By the time the sun finds the tamarind trees, Mr. Hao has already decided your day is his responsibility. Not your itinerary — your ease. He will walk further than he needs to. He will remember the name of your driver from three days ago, and ask after your knee, and appear with an umbrella exactly four minutes before the sky admits it’s about to rain. He gives distance in service the way old Hué gives distance in its silences — generously, and without being asked. What he sells cannot be invoiced. It is not the villa rate, not the breakfast spread, not even the imperial tombs glowing gold at dusk. It is the feeling that someone in this ancient, quietly proud city has decided your comfort is a matter of personal honor. That is Vietnam’s real export, and Mr. Hao carries it in his own two hands — arm, leg, and heart already given, long before you ever thought to ask.

Underwhelming Stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

The hotel has a unique art deco design. It may be 5 star by Vietnamese standards but more like 4 star in the rest of the world. Rooms are drab and lack color. No artwork or accent pillows. Bedding is not of high quality. I was “upgraded” to a River view room, but there was an ugly building undergoing reconstruction blocking most of the river. Not what I’d call an upgrade. The swimming pool is inexplicably too deep. I am 6’4” / 192cm and water was up to my chin - or over my head - throughout the pool. No shallower area for adults. Breakfast was just ok but certainly not 5 star. The food displayed under heat lamps was cold. Overall, an underwhelming stay.

A great hotel stay in Hue!

We had a great time at Azerai. It’s a very unique and beautiful property, with lots of history. The building is incredible and the rooms are lovely. We especially loved the pool on the very hot days. A great hotel stay in Hue!
