Set on a two and a half-hectare site with 200 metres of frontage on the fabled Perfume River, Azerai La Residence, Hue has 122 rooms & suites. The colonial mansion at the heart of the resort was built in 1930s as part of the residence of the French Resident Superieure. The mansion’s distinctive façade, its long horizonal lines and nautical flourishes are hallmark of the streamline moderne school of art deco architecture. Its two complementary wings, built in 2005, are contemporary in design yet echo elements of art deco aesthetics and embrace an expansive tropical garden and salt-water swimming pool.

This is probably the friendliest hotel I have ever stayed in. It wasn't because they felt they had to be nice but genuinely all just seemed to be lovely people who couldn't do enough for me. Without trying to sound trite, it really was nice to come back to every time as they all seemed so pleased to see you. I thought I would be late arriving, as there was an issue on the railway line from Da Nang, so I messaged the hotel. Unlike most places I contact, the reply came back almost straight away. They welcome I got when I arrived was so warm, and the property so beautiful, I immediately booked for an extra night and would happily have stayed forever. I had a spa with Su, which I think originally should have been 60 minutes. However it took as long as it needed to and rather than just being a set massage from the menu, it was entirely suited to my needs and I felt incredible after. The amazing manageress informed me at breakfast on my final day, that the railway line was again closed but she arranged a private car, that cost me less than the Grab I had to get on the way there. The driver did a detour via the spectacular Hai Van Pass and stopped at the top for me to admire the view at my own pace. I would love to back to this hotel or the other one they have. I even purchased a bottle of the scent you can smell throughout the hotel, to remind me of my stay.

This hotel prides itself on its art deco heritage but it’s actually austere and almost institutional inside. Not much decor or flowers, nothing to make it feel luxurious. We booked a river view room but there was a conference venue between us and the river, so not much of a water view at all, just the back of a building under construction. There was a wedding taking place there when we arrived with loud music and shouting. The hotel moved us on request and upgraded us at no extra charge, a good outcome for which we were very grateful. The 2nd room was good. The pool area is horrible. The worst I’ve seen in a long time. The paving around the pool is old and dirty although the actual water looks clean. The pool is way too deep to stand except for one small area. The pool area is surrounded by 10 foot wire fencing like tennis court fencing, very ugly. This area needs a major facelift. The outdoor furniture at the pool bar is unusable because it’s in full sun and is made of black metal, so burning hot. The grounds are ok, just, but the paving throughout is also old and ugly. During the day there is loud music with a heavy beat blaring from next door, that conference centre, again! Breakfast was disappointing, although not surprising! The English breakfast was poor and sparse. The layout and presentation of everything was very underwhelming. To sum up. This hotel is in dire need of some tlc. It needs decor, it needs a pool area upgrade, it needs thoughtful attention to detail if it wants to consider itself even a 4* hotel. It’s a shame, with a decent budget this place has serious potential as the staff is kind and it’s in a good location

Had the most relaxing and regenerative foot massage at this hotel with Miss Su . Highly recommend this amazing 45 minutes of treatment. Walking on a cloud now!

Couldn’t have been better from start to finish. Room, food and facilities were excellent but what set it apart was the service. When one of our party left something behind, the hotel immediately arranged for it to delivered to our next location, before we could even think about asking. They then stayed in touch until we confirmed we had it. They really went above and beyond.

Superb hotel with fantastic staff & facilities. Wonderful Spa, amazing Swedish massage by ‘An’ who I would highly recommend. Walking distance to main historic sites. Grab cabs readily available if walking not your thing. Would definitely stay here again!
