About the Hotel

On an Island in the Adriatic Sea, amidst medieval towns and ancient cobbled streets, find a resort that looks as if its stepped directly out of the pages of a modern architectural digest. Overlooking the cerulean blue sea, with fantastic terraced gardens and a cascading waterfall filled pool, Amfora, Hvar Grand Beach Resort is the new jewel of Croatia's ancient resort Island of Hvar. Enjoy sun and surf from the private beach, rejuvenating body treatments at the Sesori O center and Secori C Spa at the iconic 1930s Bonj Les Bains beach club, and dine under billowing white tents on a teak deck as the sunsets. Romantic, luxurious, and chic beyond all reason, Amfora makes it is easy to see why Condé Nast Traveler rated Hvar as one of the ten most beautiful islands in the world.

The worst experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

Very bad experience had taken a two bedroom suite, only one intercoms was there in whole suite with no speaker facility. The housekeeping service was pathetic. They did not make the bed and didn’t change the bed linen as well. Worst hotel not worth the money at all. Worst experience of my life. Such bad housekeeping.

Enjoyable stay but massively overpriced rooms!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

Our stay was a game of 2 halves really: - We paid over £300 a night for a room with a balcony that had a view of a wall and bush! Massively overpriced really and would not pay those prices again. The rooms themselves were nice just not worth the money. The cocktails in the pool bar were not great at all and the rose wine wasn't that good either. There was no price list for the mini bar in the room and even we asked didn't receive one. Great location. All the staff we interacted with were really great - especially Elvis in the bar. Wine and drinks in the bar were really good. Had a cocktail that wasn't so good but this was sorted no problem. Also ate there one evening which was nice. Prices in hotel were same as eating out really. Views from the bar balcony were really nice. Breakfast was really good, a fantastic choice of food and drinks. We enjoyed the pool but only spent half a day there.

Not for us.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

We are leaving today and I’m glad we only stayed 3 nights. It’s not for us. I requested a bath in the room and got exactly that but no shower! There’s a square in the ceiling above the bath that looks like it’s going to be cut out for a shower and the ceiling hasn’t been finished awaiting I presume the shower. It’s not what I’d expect for upwards of 400 eu per night. Although we had a ‘refurbished’ room it was also so tiny with barely space to move. Thankfully we only had small suitcases because there was nowhere to store them. It was advertised as a superior room with seaview. There was absolutely nothing superior about it. That was the first disappointment. The 2nd was just the overall feeling of the place. It’s loud, brash, lots of daytime drinkers in the pool that get louder as the day progresses. I also hate that people can drink in the pool. It seems so unhygienic. It also has the most restrictive and uncomfortable sunloungers. Some positives, location overlooking the Adriatic was beautiful, beach (rocky) but sea gorgeous. You have to pay if you want a sunbed. Waiters and porters very helpful. Breakfast was a good selection but very much like a canteen and noisy and chaotic. It’s not been our best choice of hotel really. Hvar itself is lovely and well worth seeing and easy walk from the hotel. I definitely wouldn’t stay again.

Nothing "grand" about the Amfora Hvar Grand Beach Resort - skip it

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

We had high expectations for the Amfora - and the hotel fell short for each of them. The facility needs a refresh, the room we had (2-bedroom suite, $1200/night) was dark and tired, the service was minimal and largely grumpy. When we spoke with the manager and said "this is a 5 star hotel," he responded "no, it's a 4 star." He is correct: there is nothing "5 star" about this hotel - not the service, not the rooms, not the atmosphere, certainly not the value. My family would never stay hear again - do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. The Amfora Hvar isn't "grand" or worth staying at.

Looks great but let down by poor room

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

First impressions were that the hotel was lovely. Upon closer inspection there were several areas that were tired and neglected. Reception and terrace bar were pleasant. Had food at the terrace bar one night. Although the food was of good quality it could have been hotter. Breakfast at the hotel was wonderful with a huge selection of good quality products. The swimming pool was great with a swim up pool bar. It was refreshing to see that there were no towels on sunbeds at 9am. Never had a problem finding a sunbed at anytime of day. Although we did notice that several persons were allowed in the pool with glass bottles. The beach is only a one minute walk away and a great way to cool down on a hot day. Be aware that the beach is not owned by the hotel. Although you can use the beach for free there is a fee for using the sunbeds. Our stay was massively let down by the room. We booked a superior room hoping for some extra space. In fact superior rooms are exactly the same spec as a standard room. Our room was even of a lower spec than friends in a standard room who had a large walk in shower. Our shower was a hand held shower head in the corner over the bath. When we asked reception we were told that the standard and superior rooms were of the same spec the only difference was the sea view. In my opinion this is misleading advertising on their website. The rooms should be advertised as “standard room” and “standard room with sea view “. Storage space in the rooms was very poor. The aircon in the room was next to useless. We had to keep the curtains closed at all times to keep the sun out. Despite being set at 19 degrees it never went below 22 degrees. One night it went up to 26 degrees. Reported this to reception who sent someone to look at it. I can only assume this was the hotel maintenance person and not an aircon engineer. The response from reception was that it was working fine and nothing they could do about it. Similarly the aircon in the hotel corridors leading to the rooms was also very poor. In summary, we paid extra for a sea view which we seldom saw as the curtains had to remain closed. Would not stay here again.
