This place incredible. From the food to the shows to the drinks to the pools, everything was top class and so enjoyable. Also, our butlers Leticia and Miguel were excellent. They answered every need we had with timeliness and kindness. Could not recommend more!

Absolutely Incredible from Start to Finish

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

We are a couple in our late 30's and stayed at Secrets Playa Blanca (non preferred) from 9th to 16th July 2026 and had the most amazing time. Here is our detailed review: Check in We arrived at the resort just before 8pm after a long day travelling from the UK. Check in was straightforward, seamless and only took 5 minutes. We were asked if we wanted to put a credit card against the room for any incidentals ($250), we declined and said we would settle with cash if there was anything to settle on check out. They were happy with this and we were shown to our room, with our suitcases following around 10 minutes later. Room We stayed in a Junior Suite Tropical View King (non preferred), which was located in building 8 on level 2. The room was modern, spacious, clean and came with full bottles of toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion. Even a small bottle of bug spray). The room location was perfect for us, very quiet and a short walk from all restaurants and the pools. The mini bar was stocked daily with coke, diet coke, coke zero, apple juice, beer and water. Restaurants We dined in the buffet restaurant for breakfast and most lunchtimes. Breakfast had a variety of options to cater for everyone - bacon, eggs, omelette station, cereals, waffles, pancakes, pastries, bread and cold salads/meats (if that's your thing!). Fresh juices were on offer to help yourself to. We found some of the dishes were cold every morning as soon as you put them on your plate, which was disappointing, the scrambled eggs and hash browns to name a few. The buffet lunch was abit hit and miss for us. Again there were plently of options but it was the same dishes everyday (I've been to many all inclusives so I know this is a thing but abit of a change up from the day before would be nice). There was sushi, tacos, pasta, pizza and meats (hamburgers, chicken, steak) being freshly cooked to order daily, plus other dishes already cooked. We went to Seaside Grill and Oceana for lunch on 2 of the days, both places were lovely and we had good meals. In the evenings we dined at Seaside Grill, Portofino, El Patio, Himitsu and Oceana. The food in all the restaurants was lovely, we thoroughly enjoyed the dishes we ordered and the portion sizes were good. There was a 50 minute wait for Himitsu but we were given a buzzer and waited in Rendezvous and had a few drinks. On our last night we wanted to do the Seaside Grill again but they had a Maya night on from 7.30pm until 8.15pm so the restaurant was full and had a long wait, so we returned to Portofino. We had a snack by the pool from Barefoot Grill one lunchtime, this was good and was brought to us quickly by one of the pool servers, so didn't have to wait around for it! Men do need to wear trousers if you wish to dine inside at Portofino, El Patio, Himitsu, Oceana or Bordeaux, shorts can be worn if you are happy to sit outside (we sat outside a few nights and it was lovely, felt very romantic with the low lightning and pretty scenery). They DO NOT allow men to wear vests (sleeveless tops) for breakfast or lunch in the buffet restaurant, we saw a few men get turned away to go put a t-shirt on! Drinks Great choice of drinks on offer at Secrets Playa Blanca. We tended to drink non alcoholic cocktails and soft drinks as we arent big drinkers, so cant really comment on the taste of alcoholic cocktails, spirits, wine or beers. Our only criticism is that they serve you coke from a bottle so it always tasted flat, we would have preferred this to be on draft for a better taste. Pool / Beach The pools were very well maintained and clean. The infinity pool was our favourite as looked out on to the gorgeous blue sea and was peaceful and tranquil (plus has a swim up bar). We did however sunbath by the social pool everyday as the sun loungers tended to get the sun all day (the position of the loungers at the infinity pool were in the shade after 2pm). The social pool had activities from 10am to 5pm but they tended to be the same activities everyday which got abit tedious (dance lesson, texas holdem, crazy pool games and water volleyball twice a day). On a few of the days they did have a sax player and a band singing at 1pm which was really good. A few days a week they also had pop up food by the social pool, one day was BBQ meat and then another day they had tacos. As per previous reviews, people do reserve sun loungers from as early as 7am, especially large groups to ensure they are sat together. As there was only 2 of us, we didnt struggle to get loungers when we went down around 8.30am. Most sun loungers had been secured at the social pool by 9.30am and by 8am at the infinity pool. The pool concierge will help you find loungers when you go down to the pool though. One morning we did notice that the pool concierge did put signs on tables to say if no return within 45 minutes, personal belongings would be removed, but we never saw this be inforced. The beach had abit of sargassum during our stay but it was minimal and didnt affect us enjoying the stunning beach and sea. The staff were out early in the morning and throughout the day doing their best to remove it and they done a fantastic job. Service The service we received was outstanding, we were treated like a King and Queen our entire trip. The pool concierge would ensure the umbrellas were up, you had towels already on the loungers, they even came round and cleaned your sunglasses! Victor and Angel were amazing, they both interacted with us and we even had banter about the World Cup football (England knocking out Mexico!!). Angel tried to get us a hospitality room on our last day as we weren't getting picked up until 3.40pm but we turned it down as you could only have it for 30 minutes and it would take me alot longer than that to get showered and ready! The pool servers worked really hard from 10am to 6pm taking your drink and food orders, so you dont need to move from your lounger. All the waiters we encountered in the restaurants and buffet were friendly and gave great service. They were quick in getting our food out to us and making sure we were happy with everything. Secrets Playa Blanca is most certainly a 5* resort with stunning grounds, great food and lovely staff that went above and beyond, we would definitely recommend staying here. We were very sad to leave and wish we had stayed for 10 nights.  We will be back in the near future. Thank you to all the staff for an enjoyable stay and for making our holiday memorable.
