I had an unforgettable experience at the 16 Roof top of Swissôtel The Bosphorus in Istanbul. The view is absolutely stunning, the atmosphere is elegant yet welcoming, and the food simply delicious. But what made my visits truly special was the hospitality. BuŞra my server took incredible care of me each time. She has a wonderful sense of warmth and professionalism. Every time I came, I asked her to choose for me and she never missed. From appetizers to main courses, her recommendations were always the most delicious. You can feel that she genuinely wants guests to enjoy their time. Her manager, Ali, was also very kind and attentive, making sure everything ran smoothly with a warm, professional presence. Swissôtel itself is a beautiful place to stay — peaceful, stylish, and full of thoughtful touches. But it’s people like Bushra and Ali who turn a great visit into a memorable one. Highly recommended.

I should start by saying I love Swissotels, and was excited to stay here, having stayed at several across Asia and Australia. But this experience was a bit of a miss for me. Pros The resort is lovely - gorgeous views of the Bosphorus; swimming pool was huge and had a nice vibe; gym was really excellent with both weight rooms, cardio room, spin room, indoor pool and whirlpool; the hammam area with multiple saunas and relax zone was great. Room was large and well equipped, very clean, and even the junior suite garden view in fact had some great views of the water and the Aya Sofia across the straight. It was maybe 10-15 mins to get into the main historical area by taxi (about 150-200 lira, but every taxi driver for four days tried to cheat me with various inventive scams), and worth it to put some distance between the hustle and bustle of the city and the hotel. Cons The biggest concern I had was that the hotel hosts weddings and functions every day, on a mass scale, and this really impacts guests. On my first night, arriving after 30hrs of flying, I was desperate for sleep but the noise of a wedding DJ and dance floor downstairs in the garden beneath my room continued until well after 11pm. This is a bit of a deal-breaker - by all means host functions but if they interfere with the core function of your offering (umm…allowing guests to have somewhere to sleep peacefully) then maybe you need to rethink what business you’re in. I also asked for a non-smoking room, and yet the smell of cigarette smoke absolutely lingered every time I entered the room. The smoking allowed in the main restaurant was revolting - one day I had to move tables three times to escape it. This was hugely off putting. And finally, the hotel offered a 20% discount on dining for registering with the Accor special promotion. This was important to me because the exorbitantly priced breakfast was almost AUD$100. I read the promotion terms carefully and registered before dining as required. On checkout, I was charged full price and the hotel tried to argue that to qualify for the deal I needed to pay at the restaurant on credit card rather than charging the room. I had to show them the terms and conditions of their own promotion - which said absolutely nothing about this - before they agreed to adjust the bill and honour the deal. This should not have happened in a hotel of this kind. On the whole, the hotel was good but these flaws - and particularly the inability to sleep properly - meant the Swissotel Bosphorus was a disappointment for me. Worth staying if you value the pool and gym; and don’t mind late night noise or cigarette smoke though.
