Perched high above the desert capital of Jodhpur, Umaid Bhawan Palace is the last of the great palaces of India and one of the largest private residences in the world – set amidst 26 acres of lush gardens. Designed by renowned Edwardian architect Henry Lanchester, the palace is a blend of eastern and western architectural influences. Its majestic 105 – foot high cupola is influenced by the Renaissance, while the towers draw inspiration from Rajput tradition. The lavish interiors with gilt furniture and elegant artwork follow the Art Deco style, complemented by the exotic murals by the self-exiled Polish artist Stefan Norblin. In 1997, the palace was converted into a luxury hotel, and is now managed by TAJ. With this, the TAJ extends its grand luxury palace experience to the city of Jodhpur.

From the beautiful welcome to the checkout we were treated like royalty. Sikander was outstanding - so kind and thoughtful. He organized a Jodhpuri style birthday celebration for me which was an event in itself. Dinner setting outdoor is exquisite. What a memorable stay.

Tried to stay at the hotel and was told it was full for a wedding, tried to go there for a meal however ead told they are full until March 3rd after which I found out that was false after speaking to the guard at the gate. Then I asked staff at the other Taj property to help me get in touch with someone at the hotel to confirm if it is full or available.the duty Manager then advised dinner is possible. We readjusted our schedule so that we can go for dinner however I needed to pay in advance (a very high cover charge which is also fine) but they payment link was never received and then the staff said the link takes time to be sent and only after it is sent and paid we can visit.. So they moved our reservation to tomorrow. Long story short I have travelled to the world with my wife and life is too short to chase one property and request someone so many times to allow me to pay them money... I recommend a visit to Dubai!

In case you want to experience Royalty combined with Taj Services then the Taj Umed Bhawan is the place .. Stating from the reception, rooms , restaurants are of the highest luxury standards .. The people whom you will come across are fantastic set of people with great service orientation. We first introduced Mr Sikandar who took us around the museum and introduced the palace to us .. Then onwards he is there for us always on a Whatsup msg . Mr Karan at the pillar restaurant made us feel at home and even on the fasting day ensured we get a curated food .. Sikandar have ensured we create lifelong memories with some of the best photography . The services of Sikandar and Karan are truly memorable for life .

Raj Nandini received us and was very helpful during the check-in experience. She is a wonderful person and ensured check-in was smooth. It was my birthday and it took just one email from my wife and Raj Nandini ensured everything is taken care off. We were welcomed by the local artists with a traditional Rajasthani dance and music performance. The staff Surender and his colleague brought in traditional safa and wrapped it for me and my son and the cake cutting ceremony with sword was one of a kind. Khan Chand from house keeping was exceptional. He decorated the room nicely and ensured we feel special during our stay. Shivank is very knowledgeable and did a personalised palace tour for our group. He was patient and warmly answered all our questions. Sajjan Singh was the elevator staff who took atleast 50 different pictures of us patiently and even pointed us to the best spots in the palace. Chandan Singh and Shashank at Risala were great and ensured we have an amazing dinner experience. The tennis coach Mr Rajendra was really good and ensured we enjoy our tennis game in the morning. The staff took really good care of my 9 year old son and took him around for peacock feather hunting and cookie making workshop. The departures experience was even better than the arrival experience. Raj Nandini once again ensured we are well taken care off and stayed with us until we sat in the car and bid us a warm farewell. We felt we left a part of us at the palace and this experience is going to stay with us forever. Taj never disappoints and has always surpassed our expectations consistently every time. Can't wait to comeback again.

The entire palace is stunning, full of history of the royal family . It is well maintained , show casing the rich traditions of Jodhpur. The views (not to forget the food) from the restaurant Pillar are exquisite . The suites are spacious and well decorated . The one missing piece is the Taj service … the Reception is devoid of the warm hospitality which I’ve usually experienced in other Taj properties . It gives me the feel of a business hotel (except for the cultural welcome ceremony when one checks in). The reception feels under staffed to me as I’ve had to look for someone from time to time to pick up my room keys. Assuming there are only 70 odd suites in the hotel, I would expect them to know the guests by name (but that’s too high a bar here).
