Perched high above the desert capital of Jodhpur, Umaid Bhawan Palace is the last of the great palaces of India and one of the largest private residences in the world – set amidst 26 acres of lush gardens. Designed by renowned Edwardian architect Henry Lanchester, the palace is a blend of eastern and western architectural influences. Its majestic 105 – foot high cupola is influenced by the Renaissance, while the towers draw inspiration from Rajput tradition. The lavish interiors with gilt furniture and elegant artwork follow the Art Deco style, complemented by the exotic murals by the self-exiled Polish artist Stefan Norblin. In 1997, the palace was converted into a luxury hotel, and is now managed by TAJ. With this, the TAJ extends its grand luxury palace experience to the city of Jodhpur.

My stay at the Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur was truly by far the best experience I have ever had in my life yet. From the Entry Point at the outer gate, we just felt Royalty. The Care taken by each staff member was truly exceptional. I presume that the service provided by your staff must be usual for your staff Members. But as a guest we were truly mesmerized by the Hospitality showered during our short stay at the palace. We plan to make this a regular routine henceforth. Special thanks to the following members who had taken very good care and thought: - Mr. Saddique - Pillars Restaurant Mr. Shobit Mathur - Chef Mr. Harsh - for the Excellent tour of the Palace and the Stables I am sorry I forgot the name of the Duty Manager on the 9th of November 2025; we shared a lot of his experiences in Chennai. A special bathtub experience was arranged for our little ones and also a souvenir was presented for the little ones to keep company for their sleeping time. Each minute at your palace was truly unforgettable and would be remembered forever. Each request was honoured with profound zeal and sincerity.

From the moment we drove into the Palace, we felt welcomed as royalty. The architecture and style of this Jodhpur treasure are simply beautiful. We stayed in a Heritage suite, which had generous amounts of space, privacy and comfort. We dined at Pillars for dinner and had a sensational dinner of the non-vegetarian tasting menu, which was Indian-continental. We had a nice yoga one morning with the instructor Jashina. One of the hotel managers Sikander gave us an amazing private tour of the Palace within the hotel (different from the Palace museum) and he was an absolute delight, sharing stories from the Palace’s past. Aman served us breakfasts made to order outside overlooking the lawn. One member of the Palace security team Cheftaun offered us a private tour of the upper floors around the dome to see some of the Royal family’s photos. What an experience to be a Maharaja for a few days.

From the initial greeting (think tabla-like drumming, welcoming chanting and general celebrations) to the check in in the amazing domed Rotunda you know that this is going to be something special. The room was elegant with an art-deco style, whilst the view from our room over the gardens to the pool was spectacular - like Versailles with less fountains. Sikanda Singh Bhati gave us a personal tour of the hotel and took the utmost care to ensure we had the most brilliant experience. Indeed every one of the hotel team we met smiled and ensured a relaxed flow to our stay. The view to and from the magically lit garden pavilion is stunning at night. We loved negronis in the classic colonial style Trophy Bar and then a relaxed dinner looking out to the magically-lit pavilion whilst listening to the gentle tone of a flute. We visited as part of a retirement celebration but also to celebrate my family heritage later in the trip. A sabre bearing cake cutting extravaganza added an extra theatrical touch! We took away memories to treasure of opulence beyond measure,

Parkhee was our front desk and palace tour guide. She was exceptional. Definitely recommend a visit and stay at the hotel. She was amazing at clicking our pictures in every room during the palace tour.
