Located in Johannesburg - South Africa’s largest city and gateway to the rest of Africa - Fairlawns is situated just 6 km from central Sandton, and 20 km from the Johannesburg city centre to offer the upmarket traveler a delicate mix of luxury and convenience. Established in 1997, Fairlawns, or “FBH” as it’s come to be affectionately known by Managing Director, Michael Kewley, is a property proud in heritage and character. Previously a luxury private residence, it is only fitting that the property has transformed “herself” into the stylish hotel, with an air of eclectic sophistication, that Fairlawns is today.

This was a nice resort. It is in a residential area so it is not real close to sights if that is what you are there for. It is about 45 minutes to the Johannesburg airport. The staff was lovely and the food was wonderful. Especially the Springbok. The breakfast was fresh and had a wide selection of items. The rooms were very nice though very different depending on what part of the grounds you stay in. We were there 2 times during our trip. I had a wonderful massage in the spa to work out the knots after 20+ hour flights. One word of caution. The Hadada bird is very loud when taking off and landing and scared us our first morning there haha.

Wonderful overnight stay at an exceptionally enjoyable property. What blew me away were the grand hotel grounds, gardens, attention's to design detail, and the size and comfort of the rooms. There’s an Alice on Wonderland theme running through the hotel, with its checkerboard floors, walkway with mirror, white rabbit details and Queen ot Hearts motifs in their tea room, The buildings itself felt deeply historic and special, we were told the property was owned by THE Oppenheimer family. I didn’t know that before arriving but I would have loved to know more about that before our stay. The rooms were very quiet, comfortable, and the hotel was located in a safe, quiet gated area within Johannesburg. As with all hotels in we experienced in Africa, there are minimal amenities (1 shower cap and 1 vanity kit), so always best to bring your own; Service was excellent but if you want a spa appointment book ahead. We were only there for a day in transit, so didn’t get to enjoy the spa as it was already fully booked when we arrived. The rooms were very large and clean, with 2 queen sized beds for us in the twin room. The pool was not clean though- which I expect because it’s winter for them at this time they don’t maintain it during this season, Overall, we really enjoyed the hotel; this was our second stay here: I highly recommend it as a safe, quiet base to stay if you’re doing an overnighter in Johannesburg.

We really enjoyed our time at the Fairlawns Hotel. The rooms were large, guiet and elegant and the breakfast buffet was simply delicious. We were only there a couple of days before starting our safari so we really didn't venture outside the hotel, but the grounds were lovely and the staff was very nice and attentive.

I was at Fairlawns for a week, and it was most enjoyable. The service was great, the rooms charming and the garden area very pleasant.

What an amazing boutique hotel. Accommodations were stunning. The food and service impeccable. The hotel provided three transportation when we wanted to go out shopping and visit another restaurant for supper. Would absolutely recommend this hotel
