Hapuku Lodge & Tree Houses

We stayed in one of the tree houses this past February 2026 and had a wonderful experience. I had expected something more rustic, but it was actually very comfortable and thoughtfully designed. The setting is beautiful. From our tree house we could see deer and mountains in one direction, and the ocean and olive groves in the other. It really did feel like being up among the trees. Inside, everything was well done—the seating area, balcony, and even the small kitchenette. The bathroom was a highlight, especially the shower with a view. The bed was also extremely comfortable. The pool, hot tub, and sauna area were peaceful and a great place to unwind. We also enjoyed dinner at the restaurant and appreciated how accommodating they were with different dietary needs. One evening we did the stargazing experience, which I would definitely recommend. The staff were consistently warm and helpful. Lisa, in particular, stood out, but everyone we interacted with was lovely. Overall, this is a very unique property in a beautiful setting, and we’re really glad we stayed here.

We had a fabulous stay at the Hapuka Lodge, we wished we had booked it for longer! The staff was amazing! We had a delicious dinner as well. The tree house room was beautiful and we loved having a pool to swim in. We would definitely recommend staying there!

We stayed in a treehouse suite and it was very cool, like a suite on its own 30 feet up. We were on a backroads hiking trip and this was our last 2 nights. They definitely saved the best for last. Best service of the 11 hotels we have stayed at(including 3 Rosewoods). Food was excellent, nice spa.

We have been so incredibly lucky to travel the world and experience wonderful resorts. Without question, this resort is the absolute most wonderful place that we have ever stayed! This boutique hotel makes you feel like the only guests on site with the highest regard to service. From the front desk to the restaurant to the pool attendants, the service was exquisite. We absolutely loved our stay here. The tree houses are the most wonderful accommodations that we have ever been at….ever! We can’t wait to share this slice of heaven with everyone we know. Thank you for the most memorable and amazing experience!!

World class views, facilities, rooms, food, and most of all, staff! The setting is spectacular, with stunning Big Sur like Mountain views on one side of your room, ocean on another side. Excellent 104 degree stone hot tub, 94 degree lap pool in a green natural setting, sauna and spa. Breakfast and dinners included and top quality. Chefs were fantastic, even taking two lobsters we had bought on the drive down from Blenheim and cooking a dish to be added to our dinner. The bucolic property is full of birdsong, with sheep and deer grazing in the fields where resort trails will take you down to the ocean. Rooms were super modern and elegant, with automatic bidet toilets, automated shades, internet tv, fast WiFi, fireplaces, balconies, amenities. Staff was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating, always searching for ways proactively to improve the stay, add an amenity, arrange a booking. We will absolutely return, drawn to Kaikōura’s considerable attractions by this destination resort.
