About the Hotel

The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua, hidden within the folds of Maui's verdant landscape, is the picture of posh. This decorated AAA Five-Diamond Award beachfront resort, which recently underwent a $180-million transformation, sits on a 54-acre expanse and is more magnificent than ever. From the airy guest rooms to the half-dozen restaurants, The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua will amaze even the most seasoned of travelers. Its stylish rooms boast new furnishings and amenities, including dark wood floors, flat-panel televisions, sleek marble bathrooms with showers and separate tubs, spacious lanais, and island-inspired artwork. Insomniacs will enjoy the convenience of the 24-hour ocean view fitness center and yoga studio. Perhaps the resort's piece de resistance, though, is the addition of a new 17,500-square-foot spa retreat boasting 15 plush treatment rooms, private outdoor shower gardens, a pair of al fresco couples cabanas, plus relaxation areas fashioned after volcanic stone grottos and outfitted with whirlpools, steam rooms and saunas.

Reviews for The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua

Great location although the facilities are a bit aged.

The hotel is definitely one of the best located ones. The land and beautiful garden that belong to Ritz is massive and not comparable to competing hotels in Wailea. Although the building is classy and well maintained, you will feel that the layouts and facilities are old. For example, we stayed in a junior suite but there is only one bathroom unlike modern hotels. Also when you go there, try to avoid their breakfast. It was one of the worst breakfast for the money. You will have much better options nearby.

5 star price without 5 star service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

I really wish I could leave a better review because staying at The Ritz Carleton in Maui should be 5 stars, right?! The service and attention to detail with guest experience is just not there. Check- in: Nothing special during arrival, room wasn’t ready at check in when it was supposed to be, no one offered to help us with luggage or directed us where to go for the room when it was actually ready. Food- we went to dinner one night at the only restaurant for my birthday. There were two servers for the whole restaurant, which is already a struggle and doesn’t provide the ability for quality service. We finally received drinks and after being there an hour, still had not received our starters. We ended up ordering room service instead, which the restaurant manager courteously covered, but it was awful. It was at best low quality cafeteria food. When I told the hotel about our service and experience, their reply was “Mahalo for the feedback.” We traveled from Maui to the big island and checked into The Four Seasons and it’s exactly what you’d expect from a 5 star resort. I wish we would have stayed at the Four Seasons in Maui too!!

Very beautiful hotel. The staffs are friendly and attentive. Kim at the concierge desk was very helpful. She got us last minute tickets to the luau and the fishing trip. We enjoyed the music at the Alaloa Lounge every night during our stays. Love the yoga classes and the fitness hike.

A perfect honeymoon destination!

This resort in a quieter, calmer bay in West Maui is perfect for a luxury stay. The resort is beautiful, the staff is very kind and attentive, and from booking to checkout they made our honeymoon very special and memorable!

Anniversary trip well below expectations

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Rented ground floor lanai room for 30th anniversary. First two nights loud wedding receptions 300 yds away from room until 10 made enjoying patio difficult. Took 3 days to repair and make fire pit operational. Two nights awakened by fire alarms in middle of night. Club access not much better than airport lounge. Was not the high end experience I expected and paid for.
